We can only wonder how Russell Martin feels, and it’s match day remember ! Piroe ? 1st Feb 2022 10:31
With Ryan Longman’s transfer to Swansea from Brighton allegedly being stopped by the American majority owners of Swansea City when it all seemed sorted out, we have to turn to the effect of that on Russell Martin today. 1

O'Reily is a great player by all accounts but Swansea are stocked in this area including Fulton and Dhanda who Martin has not moved on. Longman has gone to Hull for a fresh new owner spending cash. He is no billionaire. Swansea would have been outbid.

Darling is out of contract in the Summer I understand. Martin took him to MK Dons. Cabango and Cooper B will be further developed. It would be good to move on Bennett if possible. (not easy) The US people have done this before. Kept their powder dry.

A pacey wing back to replace Bidwell has arrived on lower wages presumably and a higher potential. It is hoped Wolf can ful fuill his potential and Obafemi kick on .

This transfer window did not see any offers for Piroe or Patterson who can resume their partnership. I would b give a bonus to them both and Obafemi based on productivity goals and assists.

Martin has brought in players only he would have recommended.
I like the style hes trying to achieve but he's making a balls up managing players.

then he is no manager!

They said two interesting facts on commentary on the weekend. We have more clean sheets than any other team in the league and we are fourth for goals scored from open play. Yet here we are moaning about the defence and saying we aren’t creative enough.

The issues for me are clear. We are either very very good or we are absolutely awful. Nothing in the middle. We have lost the ability to grind out results when we aren’t playing well. When we do concede we don’t just concede one, we concede 2,3 or even 4. We need to be more threatening from set pieces too.

We're just very inconsistent.
We ground out a result against a decent QPR side & after only making 1 enforced change we produced that woeful first half performance on Saturday.

If money was that tight then Martin and the scouts should have been told at the start of the window.
To set up searches, find players who want to come here, get in to talks, come to agreements and then have it all fall through due to lack of support from above is disgarceful.

It reflects badly on the professionalism of the club.

I have a terrible feeling that the money was there but that the Yanks have lost faith in Martin.
I wouldn't be surprised if they are trying to force him into a position where he will resign, saving them sacking him and paying him off

He is making a balls up of everything. We can't score, we can't defend, we can't take corners, we can't pick our best team , he can't get on with certain players.

Mind you we are experts at passing backwards, sidewards, keeping the ball until we give it away for opponents to score.

More than anything this says to me we need to score from set plays. This is basically the difference in us winning games or not.

How many managers resign these days? They all sit tight and wait for the sack and the big pay off.
Cooper really seemed to want out be he still waited it out and got a decent deal in the end, still getting paid until Forest had him.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

If I was a 'Yank' I would not be flooding the team with new signings like Longman. The club professionals have the "dirty dozen" young prospects that need to be developed out of the club academy system. The likes of Garrick, the Cooper boys, Cullen, Benda, Whittaker Dan Williams, Cabango, Joseph, Webb, Cameron Evans and one or two others.

Only Cabango is a regular and Joseph is benched and given 5 mins here or there. Martin and Allen have not sold any players for cash. The market for cash purchases is dead. Buying midfielders is crazy without moving on Dhanda and Fulton.

"Jason those Limeys got us to gave Fulton a good whack and a three year deal. No one else will go anywhere those bucks they tell us now. Not even half. They must think we are mugs".

Martin has bought time by sending 9 player out of loan but will have to make some decisions in the summer. Are they actually good enough?.

He wants to give new deals to Hamer and Smith. What for? Benda and Olie Cooper / Dan Williams are already under contract. These guys are 'ordinary Joes' blocking the mythical conveyor belt or the 'Swansea city pathway'. Presumably the young guys would pick up on new methods much easier than these veterans.

Garrick is pulling up trees but does not even get name checked. Big strong fast can score can assist and can even head the ball these days. RWB, CF or winger. Lovely goal on the weekend. Sharp control look up, top right hand corner. Clean as a whistle.

Martin is always wanting signings with all the kids out on loan where will they go in June? There are bargains out there but he club have Fulton and Dhanda. The US guys offered to take Dhanda but he had a new flash car on finance and would not take a lower wage. It might be the last big whack he gets the way things are going.

"Lock down our goings and make the roster sweat. Martin is a great coach should be able to keep the club out of trouble is what Jake told me". These guys are all great in January.

True but Martin is a very young, very ambitious manager who ( rightly or wrongly) believes in his system.
If he feels he is not being allowed to develop it here with the players he feels he needs, he may well be big headed enough to think he can leave and start the experiment elsewhere
