Th legal protection was there though. The P&O CEO has admitted to knowingly breaking the law and says he'd do it again.
The only question left now is what will the government do about it. They're saying the CEO should resign but he and anybody who knew about or voted for this action should be facing investigation and police action.
Mind you, as he admitted knowing it was illegal he has confessed so the police should just arrest him.
I wonder, if P&O did this as a financial necessity, did any of the board, the CEO or senior management face a drop in their wages? |

P&O have broken the law, the only remaining question is what will the government do about it?
There has been a big backlash. The P&O CEO is a hated man and now even more dodgy info is surfacing.
We may not have as strong safeguards as they do in France but even so, this didn't happen because we left the EU and there was no protection in UK law. No, the laws already in place will remain, the government is talking about beefing them up, about making ferry companies running from the UK paying the UK minimum wage.
Someone would have to take them to court now but apparently the vast majority of the fired staff have agreed to the compensation packages. Which puzzles me, I don't see how P&O can be better off, they've paid out millions in the redundancy deals and now they face having a new aw forcing them to up their wages.
I still have to ask, this financial situation, did any of the board or the CEO have to take any pay and/or bonus cuts? I'd guess not, thy probably sacked these people so they could keep getting their obscene bonuses. | | | |
