| Gazza on 17:24 - Mar 27 by trampie | Gazza was never anywhere near World class, he was just another hyped up English job, Glasgow Rangers was about his level. |
I beg to differ, as much as it pains me.

I'm talking trophies, caps, goals, standards of play, contribution to team the full gambit and Gascoigne does not cut it in my book as being World class.

Gazza couldn't hold a candle to another England midfielder of a similar time in Bryan Robson, could Gazza tackle ?, was Gazza any good at heading a ball ?, was Gazza box to box like Robson ?, come to think of it was Gazza as good as Robson scoring goals ?, I can't remember Gazza scoring that many for England. I wouldn't even say Gazza was a poor man's Bryan Robson as Bryan Robson was a complete footballer Gazza in many ways wasn't.

Different type of player completely, you need both in a team. Are you really holding up Robson's tackling prowess, he couldn't tackle, his technique was shocking, that's why he always got injured, brave as a lion yes, but not a tackling great as you seem to allude to.

100% Bryan Robson everytime, Gazza was a clown on the pitch half the time, Bryan Robson was a footballers footballer not a show pony.

Nice documentary type programme on Bryan Robson currently on Prime, the English think they would have won two World cups with him, I don't think they would have won in 86 Argentina were much better than them but I do think Maradona would not have scored that wonder goal from the halfway line as captain Marvel would have tackled him/stopped him, 1990 was a poor standard World cup England having been second best against Belgium and Cameroon but got past them they probably would not have struggled as much as they did against those two with Robson and then they possibly would have beaten the Germans with Robson and a poor Argentina in the final. Robson held in the utmost respect within the game but does not seem to get that respect with modern fans, Gascoigne, Beckham not in the same league as him, even Lampard and Gerrard not as complete, Robson being the most complete English footballer I can remember.

| Gazza on 18:16 - Jan 4 with 810 views | trampie | https://ballsoutinpublic.wordp Des Walker (you'll never beat Des Walker) said “I honestly believe that if Bryan Robson had stayed fit, we would have won it. He’s the best footballer I ever played with, and he got injured in the first game. It’s such a shame, because I really feel we had a great chance to win that.” In the Bryan Robson documentary it's Gary Lineker saying the same thing, the English think they would have won multiple World Cups with Bryan Robson, all the players of that generation think he was the best player they played with and then the Cantona's, Gary Neville's, Beckham's and Giggs that came along afterwards and had top careers thought he was the absolute tops. Fergie said he was the best player at Man Utd and it had been that way for years. | |

| Gazza on 18:28 - Jan 4 by Sirjohnalot | Can you name one English player who was world class ? Shearer ? Rooney ? Linekar ? Bobby Moore ? Greaves ? |
I did a 50 greatest ever players once and I don't think there was an English player in it, Bryan Robson and Greaves were World class in their day but not 'all time greats' like Pele.

Read his autobiography the mikshskes full of booze in Italia 90 Shared a flat with Paul Merson whilst playing for Boro that must have been interesting. Wrote the Boro team coach off flying round the training pitch. A genuinely nice but very mixed up fella but the most talented English player of his generation Trampie would love him if he was Welsh

Gazza was not as talented as Bryan Robson, Gazza was a show pony, Robson was a proper player. Robson could hold his drink, Gazza couldn't, Robson a man's man, he was allegedly one of the top drinkers in the team but it would not affect him he played until he was 40, he broke his leg three times in one season and still came back and was the best player in England. He captained a team to 3 FA cup wins (when it meant something) and could have scored a hatrick in the final but give the pen to the regular penalty taker when his side was 3-0 up. Wales did have our own version a few years later in Gary Speed another fabulous player in the same mold, leader -team player- could play any position etc.

Agree to disagree then if one of them could have played for the Swans I know which one I would prefer.
