I fervently hope I live to see this fella tried in the Hague.

How will he be caught and brought to justice and how long will it take.
Will he save us all the expense and play Mother Russia roulette with himself .

Russia has a fearfully cruel underbelly. Not much more than a month ago,Russian soldiers that were
going to bars
Playing X Box
Buying sheete from Amazon
Whinging about their football team

are now tying childrens hands behind their backs and shooting them in the head whilst others drag Ukrainian women from their cars and rape them wholescale.

This is happening in 2022,our time.

We need to reflect on how barbaric Russia was ,is and always will be.

Why can't we be this concerned about what is going on in Yemen? Palestine? Syria? They get no western help at all and the Palestinians cannot even flee their own country.

Netenyahu, Putin and Assad should all be in the Hague for war crimes.

They defeated the German army you know, the NAZI'S , the ones that exterminated 6 million jews, communists, gypsies and other opposition.

The NAZIS killed millions of Russian civilians. had plans to starve 30 million Russians . Starved to death Dutch , French, Poles, Czechs - look up the village of Lidice - I have been to the site and seen the monument to the place

So excuse me if I call the red army brave soldiers.Yes, they had excesses, but so di the Allied troops. It was the red army that saw it's own citizens brutalized by the NAZIS, saw villages burned to the ground and their country almost ruined

Get some perspective here mate, instead of cherry picking. A few history books from your local library would be a good start

What happened in WW2 was terrible, millions upon millions were murdered and abused by the Nazi’s and Russian military and that must never be forgotten. Those events took place in the last century over 80 years ago and the perpetrators (well nearly all of them) are long dead. The execution, murders, rapes and torture taking place in Ukraine is happening now, in the 21st century, it’s abhorrent and it’s completely unacceptable. There can be no excuses, no whataboutery, and anyone who tries to make excuses for it needs to take a long hard look at themselves.

Putin won't be tried in the Hague unless his own bring him down from within...and in that scenario it is far more likely that he will be killed by his own in the process.

The only people who get tried in the Hague are the leaders of nations who have been comprehensively defeated, their lands occupied...and that is not going to happen as they are a nuclear power.

That is reality.

You calling on others to get some perspective on this situation are probably the most ironic five words I've ever read on here.

I suggest you go to your local library and educate yourself by researching the Holodomor famine.

Today, after two decades of access to Eastern European archives, and thanks to the work of German, Russian, Israeli, and other scholars, we can resolve the question of numbers. The total number of noncombatants killed by the Germans–about 11 million–is roughly what we had thought. The total number of civilians killed by the Soviets, however, is considerably less than we had believed. We know now that the Germans killed more people than the Soviets did. That said, the issue of quality is more complex than was once thought. Mass murder in the Soviet Union sometimes involved motivations, especially national and ethnic ones, that can be disconcertingly close to Nazi motivations.

It turns out that, with the exception of the war years, a very large majority of people who entered the Gulag left alive. Judging from the Soviet records we now have, the number of people who died in the Gulag between 1933 and 1945, while both Stalin and Hitler were in power, was on the order of a million, perhaps a bit more. The total figure for the entire Stalinist period is likely between two million and three million. The Great Terror and other shooting actions killed no more than a million people, probably a bit fewer. The largest human catastrophe of Stalinism was the famine of 1930—1933, in which more than five million people died.

So I’m assuming that the work of these scholars was conducted after the fall of the Soviet Union which would have been 45 years plus after the end of the Second World War, and considering Stalin’s reign of terror started in 1922 how did these scholars establish the cause of death of the population from that period?

Stalin's purges didn't begin until 1936. The Russians kept records just like any other country did

The Conservative estimates are that under Stalin 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 Russian were killed as a result of Stalins policies.

It could also be argued that Stalins purge of all senior officers of the red army resulted in a totally ineffective army which quickly collapsed until the Germans attack.

Yes, that's correct, his purges hampered the red army big time. However, they got their act together and defeated the greatest military the world had ever seen. The Russians suffered 46 time more casualties then the US did , and that's just the military, not the civilians, yet some poster on here called them cowards and non soldiers.

Nobody is questioning the bravery and sacrifice of the Russian soldiers in the 1940’s. What we are more concerned about is the Russian soldiers shooting tied up children in the head in 2022.

That would be me, non soldiers indeed , and history is repeating itself by their actions today , they're showing just how backward and cowardly they are .Murdering and raping civilians ( all documented and confirmed for the world to see) . Putin's set Russia back 50 years so what you reap you sow Ivan , lets just see how the Russian respond when the going gets really tough for them , one can only hope they feel the pain for years.

I grew up with a few polish kids back in the 70's and years later I found out that one of the kids was not in fact Polish but Ukrainian. A lot of Ukrainians who came to the UK after the war always told people that they were Polish as there is a bit of history between the 2 countries. I later found out why Polish Jews were massacred and Ukrainians were involved.

Do we really know what is the truth anymore? As they say, the first casualty of war is the truth. No doubt the Russians are up to their necks in war crimes but the Ukrainians are no angels either.

I became friends with an old Polish guy that acted as a caretaker of a small workshop in worked in a good few years back.

He was captured by the Russians when they invaded Poland, some of the stories he told me about them were absolutely horrendous, rape, murder and torture was the norm with their troops, and from reports coming out of Ukraine, nothing has changed.

It wasn't a good idea to sit to close to him when he mentioned the word "Russians" because he always spat on the ground every time he mentioned them, he had absolutely no reason to lie.
