Swansea city recruitment over the last 20 years. 14:40 - Apr 13 with 3975 viewsReslovenSwan1

Recruitment at Swansea will get a 7 out of 10 from me. Swansea currently has no debts a beautiful infrastructure a decent academy and an improved recruitment in the last season or so. Andy Scott led this up and reportedly "set up " the new system so it is hoped it will continue to deliver despite the fact he has gone. The Martin / Allen axis is very promising.

The books being kept straight is due to good player trading and selling the academy stars of the 2017 PL2 wining team,

It seems to me thing work better when manager come in with clear ideas of what they want supported by the in house team,

This clearly happened with Flynn, Martinez, Brendan, Laudrup and now Martyn. In these cases there was a close working relationship between the ownership manager and recruitment team.

The outlier here are Potter and Cooper. Potters dealing were terrible and all have gone with big financial losses. Coopers signings on loan were outstanding on the whole but his permanent signings not so good. e.g. Peterson Bennett. In both these cases the bond to the club did not seem integrated. Scott wet with Cooper despite being a club signing and McCauley went to Brighton. There was visible friction between the manger and club in both cases.

Flynn had Reeves as his assistant and a broad knowledge of footballers from the north West England area. This greatly assisted the club development. Trundle Connolly Durkan Wrexham, Robinson Tranmere Martinez ex Wigan etc. The club did not presuambly have recruitment peopl in those days. Tate and Britton from academies.

Kenny Jackett favouring a more pragmatic and muscular style brought i big lads Fallon, Monk, Akinfenwa to get promotion at the expanse of style perhaps. Perhaps these were his picks or the first siges of manager recritment team development.

Marinez immediately reinstated Reeves as his transfer guru and not a man who would stay at the club after Martinez left. Mr Jenkins screwed some extra cash out of Wigan as compensation when he left. Rangel, Gomez other Spanish players were clearly Martinez Reeves. Bodde was reportedly recommended by Van Zweden the former owner unliked in these parts due to the prevailing fake narratives encouraged by Trust members. (I like him).

After Martinez left it was back to square one with a weak recruitment set up and Sousa with surprisingly poor contact book. Jordi Lopez came but did not perform well. Others were clearly from a newly form recruitment team leading to Beattie, Trundle, Kuqi and Idrizaj (RIP) none of whom established themselves.

Brendan has his own contacts via Chelsea seeing the departure of the Sousa picks and the arrival of Sinclair Borini Frank Nouble. Lee Congleton has been mentioned recently. Another era of peace harmony and good relations between club recruitement and manager. Taylor came via an Alan Curtis recommendation. Some European signing (presumably club pick did not do so well Situ never played and Morais a big centre back was not up to scratch). Brendan moulded basically Matrinez players into a formidable unit.

Laudrup ripped up the script sold Joey and Sinclair and used the money for a wave of talented Hispanics. At this time the club it appears had a coherent recruitment team that were happy to to take secondary role. (it seems to me hen the club did its best trading.) Fricition cracks however appeared (probably over commissions payments and overall strategy). In the secod season Bony, Shelvey Amat, Tendalli appear presumably from the club with Canas Sheckter Lamah and Alvaro via Luadrup. When things went wrong recruitment was a big issue.

Monk came in and left recruitment to the club with perhaps a limited contacts book. Some real bad signing were made Tabanou, Eder . Gomis was a good signing on a "free" on huge wages. He was signed to replace Bony. Sigurdson was obviusly a great signing between the club and Monk. Monk as his carreer developed improved his contacts and changed the history of Leeds utd by signing Hernandez.

Guidolin openly stated the recruitment was not his business and Borja and Fer were signed. Guidolin openly stated he knew nothing of Fer but was impressed with him. It is reported that Guidolin did push for Llorente and recommended Paloshi on loan when Gomis s work rate was questioned.

Clement again was not driven to push the club to pick player of his choice. Sanches was a disaster. Abraham as not ready. He did not have the kudos to block Bony, Clucas, Mesa and co. Carlos did have some club contacts but could not deliver Gamero and co with Swansea rock bottom.

We now have Martin with Mr Allen a high profile club man to support him. Martin did not throw his toys out of the pram in January when he did not get what he wanted. This seems to me to be a promising period in the 20 year recruitment story. Harmony and working together is best with a manager who knows who and what he wants and a scouting team willing to back him. Like the Brenda era. Piroe, Obafemi, Downes ,Patterson look good picks. Fisher should improve and O'Riley the one that got away is doing well in Scotland.

History has shown it is almost as vital not to make bad signings as it is to make good ones. Potter signed McKay, John, Asoro and Celina. £7m down the pan. Cooper / Martin would have done serious s damage with that budget.

Memory plays tricks so there may be an inaccuracy or to in there.

Swansea city recruitment over the last 20 years. on 17:51 - Apr 14 by Chief

All rubbish that's been disproved that has no connection to recruitment. Just constant propaganda. What for I dont know. The sell ours admitted guilt - it's over.

The trust networked with directors constantly. To the point that they were constantly under fire for being too cosy with the other owners so that's yet more cachu. The Trust were close with them and the sellouts still did the dirty on them.

The trust have backed the wrong horse yes. The one they could have backed had a chance at becoming a top class filly. The one they've created needs to be put out to pasture.

Your mentality is weird. "too cosy" is trade union thinking not owner thinking.

This mentality of 'employee' not 'owner' has dogged the Trust membership thinking. It is a working class dogma thing and is toxic.

Tee Trust chose not to sell in the Premier league and now appear to have changed their minds but it was too late.

They made a strategic error. It is not the end of the world. They can sell the next time Swansea city get promoted and get more money than the sellers got. They should tag up with Silverstein who has the common touch and no need to trick them.

The supporters of biblical valleys Sunday school rhetoric (Judas Sellout pieces of silver etc ) have been routed. Now is the time for calmer souls and constructive working relationships and good business advice. The current local board members know there is more jam on the bun to come. They were happy to keep a holding and did not squeal after relegation. It is part of the deal. Football club ownership is 'super high risk'. If you do not want high risk invest in National Grid shares instead.

The Trust a have been playing super high risk super high return. They won big and let it slip. The court case was another hugely risky throw of the dice. (last resort). When faced with a cliff edge the leadership rightly chose to take a step back and stock up for a new campaign.

You are locked in a cultural dogma from years of reading fake narratives. It is probably too late for you to learn. In your mentality you have been 'sold out' twice when in fact you have not been 'sold out' at all. You have the mentality of a stone cold loser.

- Mentality? I'm just saying the way it was. The trust were often accused of being too cosy. I never said the trust accused themselves of being too cosy. So it wasn't owner thinking. Bizarre statement.

- as is the next one. Employee!? Who in the trust has ever considered themselves an employee!?

- the trust decided against selling to Noell and Moores after meeting them but informed the sellouts that they were open to selling to the current owners as soon as they became aware of the sale. So they tried to, but the Americans were never prepared to offer a decent deal. Evidenced by the fact they were prepared to go to court rather than doing it. So whether the trust really wanted to or not is of less the importance. The Americans from the start to the end simply didn't want to buy the trust's shares.

- they did make a strategic error. Accepting the settlement. It's possible they'd have been better off doing nothing. Now they're tied in. Silverstein has as much reason to trick the trust as the last sellouts. If it furthers his own personal fortune, he'll do it.

- Routed? To where? No all that's happened is that a gullible weak board has accepted a poor deal alienating the members in the process. But they've got their comfy seats. Yes some sellouts kept some shares. Not a difficult choice to make (it if was theirs) when you can sell the rest and make millions on those. Leave some in for fun or for a punt. The trust weren't given that choice.

- you're the one inventing false flag narratives to try and pin on people telling them why they think a certain way. I work on the facts and the facts are that the trust were screwed out of what they were due. Accentuated by the sellouts settling. And yes the trust board selling out again is exactly that. A betrayal. A loser mentality sticks their head in the sand and becomes complicit. Like you and this bizarre Stockholm syndrome fawning over an American consortium who colluded to exclude the local Welsh fans shareholder. You're the coward. We were prepared to rail against the injustice. Not jump up the anuses of the wrongdoers like you.

The club have historically recruited better over the years when on a limited budget. We tend to take our time and think more when we don't have a lot to spend, so I'm reasonably confident going forward.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Jenkins wasn’t too bad at young recruitment ?
I’m thinking Dan James, Ollie, etc.

OK I've changed it.

Yes in a sense, two successes surrounded by about 30 Botti Biabi and Kenji Gorre style flops.

But they're young and cheap so the conversion rate doesn't need to be high.

At that price range it's mostly about throwing mud at a wall and seeing what sticks. One Oli Mac makes up for ten Kenji Gorres.

Recruitment as a whole yes.

Youth recruitment no, although his input would minimal compared to the first team recruitment and the constant pursuit of Marvin Emnes etc. I doubt he personally picked out James/McBurnie. They didn't have deadlocks.

I look at thing holistically and he did a marvellous job. I do not even think he treated the Trust badly either.

The SCST messed up as has been proven by the very low settlement they have had to accept. The court case was not found to be viable and was a massive waste of time and money. The narrative you promote has not stood up for scrutiny in the eyes of legal experts who had to fund it.

Justice has been served and minor compensation paid to sooth hurt feelings. If the Trust do not trust their partners they should leave the club and put their shares up for sale on the open market.

Losers always have a reason why they lost and never accept it was down to them. We have plenty of losers in south Wales. Each has a hard luck story.

-- they didn't mess up at all, well the old board didn't. They engaged funders and legal experts, enacting the will of the membership. The new board accepted the low settlement, stupidly shacking themselves in the process. The 'narrative' I apparently promote that the trust were wronged was proven right by the sellouts admission of guilt, Prince Andrew style.

- Justice has not been served, hollow victory accepted by a weak board. It's made feelings worse. The members who were excluded from the decision process now do not trust the board.

- you seem to be the exact prototype of these losers. Constantly making excuses for the way the sellouts and Americans acted even after they've settled and admitted wrongdoing and in the face of all evidence. Look at this thread, its about recruitment, but for some reason you are mentally incapable of not posting about the trust / deal constantly trying to put the sellouts point across.

We will have to agree to disagree. I feel that with the trust with 14-16,000 members would be stronger than a trust with probably less than 1,000 members now, I stand to be corrected. Anyway IMO the trust is past its sell by date now and has no value. I respect your opinion as you have strong feelings for the trust but I no longer feel the same.

Yes the more members the trust would have the stronger it would be, I totally agree, but acquiring them via default just doesn't sit right with me and the vast majority of that figure would just be sitting members not bothering to get involved or bothering to vote etc.

Neither do I, with this agreement they've given up their status as a supporters trust. With them seemingly in bed with the owners and tied by NDAs I don't trust them to provide an insight to the club that's doesn't have the club's spin on it or challenging the owners. Just look at the communication that came out saying the matter had been settled: "The Club' has come to an arrangement with the supporters trust".... Which is legally false and should never have been allowed to be released in that form.

They've had my last membership fee.

People can think what they like but cannot print it on forums without evidence. I can espouse, for example, left wing views, without being a card carrying member of the Labour party. You are wedded to "fake news" and forum 'jiggery pokery'.

I happen to think the sellers did a superb job. Anyone outside this oddball Swansea fan bubble would think the same. This does not mean I work for them or are their mates. I have never met any of them or know any US citizens at all.

I am interested in the aspect of group thinking and propaganda and fake narratives. We see it in Russia today.

The narrative has been planted that the SCST were hard done by. I do not believe this at all. In fact the reverse it true. The SCST is in a great place. It was created for them by the sellers. The new deal might have put themselves in a worse place.

Money is power. % holding gives little clout. The Trust do not understand this. Silverstein has clout because he has put £5m into the club coffers. He is on the board with no shares. He also ended the 6 year Trust stand off. Bravo to him.

Use of forum and planted posters allied to anti Americanism (and other ethnic groups) and general south Wales political leanings (socialism) can lead to a pretty toxic 'cawl ' That has traction with the fan base. The narrative has been manipulated by unknown characters. The Chief and many others have v bought into this fake narrative and have been left high and dry. The supporters of legal action feel let down. Due to a lack of common sense and buying into dubious forum narratives.
