| Fuel Prices - Perspective 09:53 - Apr 19 with 2059 views | STID2017 | Apparently 50 years ago petrol was 78p a gallon. Now about £7.80 A new Ford Cortina in 1971 was around £1000 Now a new Ford Focus is around £22, 000 A new house in the Swansea area would have cost around £4000 Today same house may cost around £200,000 or more | |

| Fuel Prices - Perspective on 10:44 - Apr 19 with 1317 views | Dr_Winston | According to the BoE inflation calculator that new Ford Cortina would have cost the equivalent of £14000 in 2021, so given the improvements in manufacturing and materials that's not such a huge jump. Petrol is actually cheaper now in comparison as a similar 14x jump in price would see it at £10.92 per gallon. Housing however has gone bonkers. Whereas average house prices don't tell the full story (plenty of properties available for sub £100,000 in Swansea if you don't mind location) demand is far, far outstripping supply. | |

Property is crazy. Been looking at properties for the last three years and Property is way overpriced ( compared to what it was worth a few short years ago ). Yet often is selling at or over the asking price and viewings are being cancelled as they are receiving multiple offers for the same house after viewings

Needs to be a big housebuilding programme over the next few years with strict controls over who can purchase. First time buyer properties only. Houses ideally, but flats if necessary.

It wouldn't surprise me if there is a forty percent drop in house prices during the next five years Ford cortinas will continue to rise in value 😊

I was on about that in 68 with British Steel as it evolved from SCoW. I ditched my HND course and went into retail management.Tesco doubled my salary to start. I seemed to have money to burn .

Hope your right but can't see it, the rent market is crazy as well. Basically the demand is so high they can charge what they like. Have you noticed houses don't have prices anymore, it's "offers above" a minimum price, scandalous!!!

In 5 years time there will only be one direction in house prices and that is up. The whole British economy would collapse if there was a major drop in house prices. Negative equity and repossessions would cause a knock on and it would fitler to everyone.

Maybe , and nobody likes their house being worth less than it was , there were downturns in the early 90 s and about 2008 so its not as if they don't happen , the rise has been fueled by lack of supply , low interest rates and lack if any other investment to match the returns in property , the lack of supply will continue but the other two can reverse quickly , inflation is rising and interest rates will follow There was never a real correction for the financial crisis , printing money and low interest rates just covered it up , the correction has to come sometime and the level of government debt in most countries suggest its likely to happen within five years , that is what will drag down property prices , the last two property downturns were 18 years apart so on a cyclical level 2026 will be the next one , but of course it could happen anytime , just my opinion it will be worse than the previous two , and different regions will have different falls
| Fuel Prices - Perspective on 18:55 - Apr 19 with 1095 views | Dr_Winston | The only thing that would drag down house prices is a decrease in demand. It's one of the most basic economic indicators. If nobody wants what you've got, you have to charge less for it. It's possible that a big rise in interest rates will do the job, but there are probably too many institutional investors out there for it to have much of an impact. They'll just pass the increased mortgage costs on. A huge increase in supply will have the same effect. Short those two options, not much will make a difference. | |

Seen a item about the U.K's population increase along with a future predication of what it would be if things were to continue at the rate it was going at on ITV News a few years back. There was a guy from the Office Of National Statistics being interviewed. Some like with Labour's last election campaign wanted mass immigration just for the sheer hell of it. Or maybe to rig the voting system? In fact some wanted the U.K to be open to the entire world without number limits and whereupon a person could just turn up and have immediate access to NHS. Talk about catastrophic downside of NHS-tourism, and being overwhelmed by sheer weight of numbers. Disaster in the making! You just cannot pour a pint into a half pint glass!

I have noticed one thing i.e. the more looney left someone is the less common sense and critical thinking he/she has. Also they are completely dethatched from reality failing to recognise that "to every action there is an opposite and equal reaction" and repercussions of. The precited population increase by 10 million in a space of two decades (ITV News) is a crisis to most but to the looney left?...... Bring it on because virtual signaling and being 'right-on' is far more important than a 24 hour wait for an ambulance!

The voting thing, it's well known that younger people are more likely to be left wing, it is a form of gerrymandering, if you can't effectively change the constituencies then change the voter demographic. My mates mother fell in her home 3 days ago, she waited 8 hours for an ambulance. She was admitted because she smashed her knee up and needs an emergency op to replace it. 8 hours seems disgraceful to me but she was one of the lucky ones. I've seen too many stories about people waiting 20 hours and/or dying before the ambulance gets there. An elderly neighbour had a fall last year and was told a minimum of a 5 hour wait, his son arrived in 10 minutes and bundled him into the car, drove him there in 15 minutes. he was examined and rushed in for life saving surgery, he had a bleed in his head and even another 30 minutes delay would have been fatal. I'm not criticising the staff of the NHS or the ambulance service, it's not their fault they are so shoddily run and catastrophically under funded by the Senedd. Next time they close an A&E remember the money is going to pay for an increase in the numbers in the Senedd.

Old lady 2 doors up from me fell, (turned out she broke her hip) at around 12 midnight, a neighbour found her the next morning at about 11 am, she couldn't move her because she was in to much pain, so she immediately phoned for an ambulance, which arrived at 8 pm that evening. Drakeford is doing a marvellous job.

That’s a very simplistic view and totally ignores the lack of investment in aftercare . If the bed blocking Grans and Grandads had somewhere else to go to convalesce then ambulances wouldn’t be stacked outside hospitals waiting for beds. You’re a conservative voter and complicit in this. Wake up, please!

The housing situation in this country is truly dire. If you do not already own your own home already then you are screwed, even renting will become unaffordable to a large section of society if something drastic is not done. [Post edited 20 Apr 2022 19:36]
