| Stuart Webber - Norwich on 14:28 - May 6 by vetchonian | I think you miss the point Jasper is stating a fact managers rarely stay long at clubs these days especially in the championship, they either get fired as they "fail" or if succesful move on to more ambitious or higher level clubs. Martin's style is unique no one else is playing it not even Klopp or Pep. As Jaspers said we recruited wingers a little while back....you know like Martinez and Rodgers and Laudrup used to use but Martin doesnt ....nothing has been said about players who cannot play.....Its hitory and Coopers gone and Monk...what if our next manager is in the mould of Potter? again people are convinced Cooper ball was all about hoofing it....try watching the games again we played out from the back , rimes was often seen bringing the ball forwards from our defensive third we played passing football....but at times we were sfatey first and did hoof it to the channels. This season Notts Forest play some nice stuff...Cooper used the assets at his disposal to best advantage...its what managers do. Why would we revert to Monkball or Cooper ball.....I doubt either of those two will ever be back here in themanager or coach role |
I have often talked abut someone in the club being "protector of the faith" , I thought this was going to be Mr Allen. It did not work out When Martin came he was presented to he brief to return Swansea to a confident composed possession side. Who gave him the brief. I doubt the Trust had any say in it. In the past it was Huw Jenkins and the model hit their straps 2006 -2017. Now it may be Winter or Winter and Silverstein or even some suit in the background. The fans are doing a disservice to the club by not assessing the achievement of Huw Jenkins based on a fake narrative created by people who are now irrelevant to Swansea city and who failed to deliver their promises. The system applied by Martin has been a modest success with wins equalling losses. It looked to be working at 1-4 v Reading. It has been a very long time since Swansea has beaten Bournemouth and that was blown late in the games. The balance between beef and style is not quite right. Perhaps if Swansea had Aden Flint on the bench Swansea would be 4 points better off. The underage team should be playing a version of the first team not a replica. That is not required. Young Scott Butler knows he has work to to get in the Swansea u23 team and can probably do it by hard graft in training. His success in doing this separates him from joining Brighton or Crawley FC in the future. Cabango the narrative says has come a long way this season. Swansea can develop Butler to be the 'new Aden Flint' but what is the point? Big Aden is out of contract so Swansea can sign the original anyway. Winter has been at the club for quite a period and is another fans under estimate. I was shocked at the signing of a teenage centre back after the failure of another teenage centre back, This was no help no Martin. (pushing rocks uphill?). Martin said nothing and winter acted. Winter could he bi e in place for 5 years as 'protector of the faith'? Leon Britton was in that role and has taken a few steps down the ladder teaching on the grass. Jut the job.

Read my earlier post Jennkins could have a should have put a "dynasty" in place.... Develop coaches alongside plsyers in the acadamy to move on to progress to the first team using an agreed playing ethos and system We failed to develpop another player form our acadmy to play the "leon" role which was so pivotal to our play. Leon was at the club and could have mentored an acadmy player. I repeat myself again your hero Jenkins made a big thing about Cutis and Pascoe being a consistent to the backroom staff of any future manager following Martinez's departure to ensure continuity of "the Swansea Way".....Pascoe left with Rodgers but Curt remained under Laudrup but Jenkins the great allowed that rookie upstart Monk to sideleine Curtis....... Stop deifying the man.....yes he was part of our rescue and rise.....but he was lucky along the way....and he did well finacially. We had a great chance to build a dynasty but in reality it was all about the money!!!!

too right Jasper....but in terms of possession for possesion sake I think Martin can claim that one.....and as you say his system has failed to deliver success to date at either club he has managed

{{Stop deifying the man.....yes he was part of our rescue and rise.....but he was lucky along the way....and he did well finacially. Jenkins over his tenure was a huge success. 15 years in charge and 14 of them footballing and financial successes. He bequeathed the club the academy when recruitment went awry and relegation followed which generated another £50m after he had left the post, in transfer fees to get the club out of a scrape. The losers back a badly run confused organisation pedalling a myth and lost again. Losers never learn. The Trust only ever put £200,000 into the club (3 weeks wages for Ayew) and nothing into the recent Loan Notes. They sat on a 10,000% return given to them by Jenkins. He put buyers in front of them TWICE ad they still ended up skint.

Its very simple. Slag off Jenkins and people with common sense go on the front foot. The history of the wonderful last 20 year will not be written by losers who are loyal to the fair weather passengers tagged on to the club but not punching their weight. A post today by Silverstein suggests they might be shaping up at long last. A little research suggests Webber is not the man for any club. His time will be on mountaineering and he cannot cut corners on that and survive. [Post edited 6 May 2022 18:37]

People with common sense go on the front foot !!!!! Errr nope, just you. Most people can distinguish that he did a fantastic job right up until he appointed GM, this isn't necessarily a problem, all chairman make poor choices from time to time. However his exit strategy undone and tarnished all that had gone before. Not sure why you can't separate the 2 issues.

Why are you so incapable of separating people's opinion of Jenkins with the trust's case then? It's bizarre. No one mentioned the trust, no one mentioned the legal action. Only you - on a thread about Norwich's Sporting Director. Very strange.

He left with Graham Potter in charge. One of the most promising managers in the Premier league. Beautiful passing football and not adverse to picking a 6ft 5in monster at full back.(Dan Burn) Potter messed up with the £7m budget he was given. He could have got Dickie, Ivan Toney and a few other stars with that money at the time. If it is just me then the fans are dimmer than I thought but I doubt it . Forum divas and East Stand ultras do not represent the total fan base.

See you are capable of responding to the discussion at hand without deviating onto the trust or the case (although you've let yourself down the last paragraph). I don't know you don't do it more often. It's interesting that you think others are 'forum divas' yet you're here calling a section of the fanbase randomly dim and having a tantrum because someone dared question Jenkins's performance though

Never doubted it. Carry on your holy duty representing the view of the Welsh Marcher lands with regard to Swansea City (a laughing stock at the end of the last century made respectable again by Huw Jenkins and the sellers).

Don't forget the supporters trust. The club (and the sellouts) got tremendous publicity and respect from having a Supporters trust being part of and contributing to the running of the club. But let's stick to Webber.

The reality is Jenkins's performance cannot be criticised . He stands alone head and shoulders above as the greatest Swansea chairman of all time. He has bull dozered his way to the top and upset a few on the way including Abramovic Klopp and the SCST but that is they way it had to be. Forum narratives in socialist parts of the country unused to success are very alluring to the unsuspecting. It was not luck. The US owners are now focused on recreating what was so good about the "Jenkinsata era". It is not so easy within a budget and will take time.

But to answer the post directly of course he can. Great for years but some of the decisions he made in our final years of the premier league were shocking and financially hamstrung the club for years. You can't pretend signing the likes of Bony and Ayew in that final season on gigantic contracts was a good choice. He rightfully gets plaudits for the good times, he deserves criticisms for the bad times too. And I won't go into his non chairman activities on this thread which were objectively putrid, but this is not the thread for that. "Focus on recreating". Why did it need recreating then? Who was responsible for it not continuing seemlessly?

All the great empire collapsed and people focused on the ending of them. The Jenkinista era was ended by poor recruitment. Jenkins took the blame for bad picks by his head of recruitment. Poor recruitment continued even after the appointment of Potter. Jenkins blamed no one but himself and resigned He was not sacked.

Right so he can be criticised then can't he? He was chairman - he oversaw this poor recruitment (I don't think that head of recruitment was actually responsible for Ayew/bony signings but there we are), he hired the head of recruitment, he signed off on the insane wages the club gave these footballers. You're even saying he blamed himself (which isn't really true is it because he left over an argument over Dan James, not any pang of conscience or responsibility over his poor recent performance, in reality he was probably sacked). So he's therefore critical of himself, so he obviously, evidently is open to criticism.

His overall performance cannot be criticised objectively as a failure was the intention of the comment. It was a huge success. The Trust cannot really criticise his economic performance as he gave them a 10,000% mark on their investment and found buyer for them. They can criticise him for not getting 10,001% of course. Even now it is a 4,000% return if sold. Even now some members are still complaining. If Swansea get promoted and sold they will reap a 15,000% return on investment after dilution. Why not support the club and love the clubs history. There is still a lot of upside and the Trust leadership have learned some hard lessons. He clearly stated if he felt he had lost influence and could no longer run the club he would stand down. That is what he did.

Why are talking about the trust again! The discussion was about Jenkins's performance as chairman. Now that's different. You said he couldn't be criticised. I showed you and you then backed up my point (unknowingly) that he could. I don't think anyone has said his reign as chairman overall as chairman is a failure have they?
