| How many really hate this country 08:36 - Jul 14 with 3874 views | onehunglow | I read there is no such thing as Britain! On this site I read posters are actually basically afraid to leave the safety of the nirvana that is south Wales. Why are people like this still living here. Why are Police and Military now daily targets for hate and derision when the majority iterally keep us safe. We are an ungrateful, stinking pile of poo as a society . | |

I believe the majority of the accused were found not guilty. If my memory serves me right, their defense Barrister was Michael Mansfield, and he made the police look like right idiots and liars
| How many really hate this country on 14:00 - Jul 16 with 711 views | johnlangy | As one of the indy supporters on this site who is regularly insulted by many of you (because we're all lumped together as one homogenous group) I want to say that I love Wales and the Welsh. And I also love England and the English. What I hate is Westminster and the way they treat Wales. I'm also not enthused with the way the Senedd performs either. But a Senedd government is voted in or out by the people of Wales. Meaning its our choice. No one else's. | | | |

Most people in Wales don't vote in Senedd elections, those that do are those conditioned to vote Labour no matter what. It's a crying shame we don't have a credible aternative to both Labour and Tory in Wales AND the UK. Even so, surely all but the most blinkered can see the Senedd needs a change of ruler. Westminster gets changes but here in Wales the sheep keep voting with their left hooves.

I do think there would be a greater turnout for the Senedd if it were our only controlling government. I'd imagine a fair amount of people don't actually have an idea of what the Senedd does as it doesn't receive anywhere near as much media coverage. It definitely needs a change, but as you've said the only real candidates are Labour and Tories, who in their right mind would vote for them, their candidates in Wales are absolutely dire.

To be fair, Drakeford is making people aware of the Senedd, albeit for the wrong reasons.

I agree with you on most of that. Mind you, I know people who do vote who blame Westminster for things without realising the powers are devolved. Some on here claim the Welsh politicians are better than those in Westminster, I've yet to see any evidence to back that up. Take the vote for the 20mph changes. They say it will save lives, which it may well do if people observe the change but hw many will? Then how do they police it? A bg issue should have been how much extra pollution will be created by cars going more slowly? At a max 20 mph most cars will be in second gear and doesn't tht create more emissions? Will that have a grater detrimental effect on the residents? Will there be an increase in respiratory illnesses? Did anyone in the Senedd look into this? No need maybe as with Plaids co-operation this was guaranteed to pass.

When the 20mph comes in will they remove the speed humps in the 30mph zones? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Most average people don't care enough to find out. Thats the crux of it, the same with almost all politics really. The thing is 20mph in some areas is a good thing, in others it clearly is not so a blanket rule like that is ridiculous. But also are they really going to put cameras up on all these areas? It's 20mph already all round the area by me and nobody is doing 20mph. So its pretty pointless. Having two layers of politicians to govern is one too many, it is just not feasible. Both the Senedd and Westminster have massive flaws, but we in Wales are directly responsible for the what we get in regard to the Senedd. We are only responsible for 6% of Westminster.

What you say about too many politicians, I 100% agree. I've been saying it for years and it was a small part of the reason why I voted to leave the EU. I don't see devolved governments working because nationalism is always going to rear ir's head. I think we need a federal system where we are all regions of the UK. We have a much smaller UK government that keeps control of the biggest things (defence, foreign policy, NHS etc) but then the UK goes almost American and has regions with their own small governments that have full responsibility for their regional issues. Every region is funded under the same formula which obviously isn't Barnett! The fewer politicians we have, the better.

My preference would be to have separate Welsh, Scottish & English governments (N.Ire also depending on if the rejoin Ire). With each making up a 1/3 or 1/4 of a council to deal with combined issues. Either way the current system needs a radical change if it is actually to benefit the ordinary people of our countries.

Thing is, why should Wales, Scotland and NI get as much of a vote as England when we don't even make up half the population? That's why regions are a better idea with each region having the same voting power, those regions being split by population as closely as possible. I'd give NI their referendum on unifying Ireland too. And scotland their vote, after the regional plan was up and running. That would be my idea anyway, level up by giving power back to local areas each with a vote so the North, Scotland and Wales could stand together and get a better share.

Because what is the point in Wales, Scotland or N.Ireland ever electing any representatives otherwise? In the current system 3 countries have no say on how they are governed should the 1 decide otherwise. Even the EU didnt work under a strict population = representation format as it is not democratic to smaller countries. Im not a fan of regionalisation, but i just can't see anything like that being allowed to happen either way. It just doesnt benefit the established parties.

In the past, I may have agreed with you.. But no way in the world would I ever agree with the likes of Drakeford running Wales.

| How many really hate this country on 09:28 - Jul 17 with 429 views | waynekerr55 | Bit late to the party on this thread. I think very few people hate the country, but what they do hate is a small gang of people who have sought to divide, obfuscate and bring the country to its knees all in the name of keeping the Tory party together. The whole draping it in the Union Jack is grating, as there is nothing patriotic in harming the country and bringing laws in that Victor Oban would be proud of. The police are let down by chronic failures in management, so many good frontline people are failed by people like Cressida Dick. | |
