| Rishi v Liz on 14:51 - Jul 26 by Catullus | Truss has apparently got around 54% of members support. I don't remember where I saw it, I was reading an online news feed which brings up stories from many different sources. Again apparently, tax cuts won't affect a lot of the memberships (so much) who are already well off and possbly older and retired. These are people who are already OK despite everything. They don't mind the Hoi Polloi being taxed to the hilt. |
I have the same feeling of British politics as I do of my improper Football club . Utter bemusement and feel totally burned out by them both. I want inspiration and neither Surakarta or Liz would inspire me ,at least not in politics . [Post edited 26 Jul 2022 17:21]

If they can find any in the Tory Membership, they will ask them. They are hugely older, white, based in the SE

Yes but why do you need to mention the colour ? Or do you think older white men shouldn’t have a voice ? You wouldn’t be brave enough substitute the word white for black or gay etc and use it in the same context in another scenario.

Fair enough question but being white and knowing older white Tory voters, and seeing them on programmes like QT and reading various stats and voting intentions. Older white, Tories are more inclined to vote for Brexit, and prefer candidates who are white. There have been surveys done to ask people how they vote and their views on topics. The Tory party is dominated by older, white, men who live in the SE of England. That is a fact. Whilst the Tory MPs are ethnically diverse, I would suggest the party is not. You do make a very fair point re the black or gay vote, but I again, I would suggest people from ethnic minorities or groups who have been marginalised would be more likely (of course not as a rule) to be attracted to parties like labour. One of the reasons being s28 was introduced by the Tory Party and only repealed in 2003, I think. Certainly out of my black and gay friends and people I know in work, I don't think any of them are Tory supporters.

And in the bluer corner, Liz Truss — recent graduate of the esteemed school of fantasy economics and leading Thatcher tribute act, promising billions in unfunded tax cuts. That is the first look of emotion I remember seeing on her. otherwise she comes across as hard, cold and calculating. Probably good qualities for a PM. Certainly better qualities for it than being desperate to be liked!

I’d rather listen to a 70 year old who has lived his/her life than some 18 year old who’s knows nothing and is still on the bottle. As for Brexit millions of labour voters voted to leave, so don’t know where you get your facts from. Also talking of over representation, how many gay mps are there.

Don’t need someone who is horrible. We need someone who is decent, honourable, trustworthy and compassionate. Johnson was a charlatan. Never understood on programmes like the apprentice when they say “I’ll destroy everyone to get my way’ Why would you want to get into business with someone like that ? I’d never harm someone to get what I’d wanted. A PM needs to be trusted by countries we want to trade with. I wouldn’t trust a bstrd.

Jon. It helps. Someone who s a good leader and doesn’t care who he upsets . Boris was a liar and wanted to be popular . Evidence of what I mean.

Different visions of leadership I guess. Massive character flaw if you don’t care who you upset. It’s being respectful. Again other countries would have to trade with us. Following years of our country’s reputation falling down the plug hole we need to rebuild it
