| Validation of Wengerworld. 12:14 - Aug 1 with 3190 views | ReslovenSwan1 | We are now entering a new era of Swansea city. I have named it "Wengerworld". The characteristics are as follows:- a) The manager has total control appointments / signing from top to bottom. b) The CEO takes a back seat and lets him get on with it. c) The club ethos is that of the manager. Organic development. d) There are no targets other than progression e) Investment will be minimal and only used if there is a chance of promotion. f) Upper mid table will suffice this season. g) Small profits are expected each season by sales. h) Appointment will be youngish and report to Martin and the CEO Martin is a "goldilocks manager". Too good to be sacked but not good enough to be poached by a huge salary increase. Guidolin was also a Goldilocks manager and just what the doctor ordered for Swansea. Sadly the US owners had not figured out their strategy. They have now aided by the intellect and knowledge of Silverstein. Martin appears to be adapting slowly and gradually. Those expecting him to move on after his two years standard period will in my view be dissapointed. The exceptional Jenkinista era was run by the genius of huw jenkins who had 15 years of success with good managers coming and going on a regular basis. It made no difference. Laudrup was a classic short term fix, The great man was spinning plates and Bob Bradly was the first plate to fall and the others quickly followed. It was clearly, even in 2013, not a sustainable model. The Swansea academy should be renamed the Huw Jenkins Academy. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo [Post edited 1 Aug 2022 12:17]

Times changed. HJ was made persona non gratis by many Swans fans. He did good but soiled his record not just by profiteering on the sale (no issue with that had the club benefitted) but also being responsible for the destruction of the Swansea Way on the field. Struel made no massive profit from the Swans as far as I know

| Validation of Wengerworld. on 23:08 - Aug 2 by ReslovenSwan1 | Borja ran down his contract and was one of too many bad signings admittedly. Jenkins sacked managers regularly but stayed loyal to his recruitment man Ledbetter. I do not think Bradley was jenkins's choice and he probably compromised for the sake of unity. He had recovered from a poor season by bringing Potter who ultimately let the club down by making bad signings himself and cutting and running leaving behind Asoro John Celina and McKay. His time has passed and he is unrivalled as the clubs greatest ever Chairman. Fans should be grateful to him but have no perspective and a betrayal complex. I believe if the Trust did not existed he would be feted today. It has behaved appallingly in my opinion. |
'His time has passed and he is unrivalled as the clubs greatest ever Chairman. Fans should be grateful to him but have no perspective and a betrayal complex' Of course he's our greatest ever chairman, but that can't disguise the fact his last 2 years nearly ruined the club to oblivion all while he was trying to maximise as much profit for himself as he could. You can't just brush off Baston £15m+, Bony (every knew he was gone as a player), Clucas £16m+, Ayew£18m+, as signings that didn't work out. They were all signings that were clear before they came in were not good deals yet he made them anyway. Probably cost the club up to £100m with wages included just for those 4 players

The club was not ruined to oblivion. As we stand 4 seasons after relegation the club has no debt. The reason it has adjusted so well is the academy (HUW JENKINS and others set up). HJ's brain child and vision still delivering. A big contributor to the historic Cymru WC 2022 qualification as well High hopes for Congreve for example. Sure there were too many bad signings at the end. A stronger manager than Clement would have stopped some of those errors. Bony 2 was pretty much inexcusable. In general good signing and bad signings balanced out. Bony was paid for by selling Llorente. £100m is a lot but Premier league football was never cheap. 15 season and one bad one. He was back on a roll with Potter but never got the recruitment sorted. Martin is looking very promising on recruitment and will not accept any dud signings like Walsh on his watch. Remember when talking about 'profits' the fans organisation themselves could have shared in it but chose not to sell. That is because members were not careful enough to audit their representatives and their philosophy. Profits are good. 'Profiteering' is not valid in this case. The sellers funded the club in 2002 owning 5-20% of the club. They sold their percentage to good USA owners with a track record in football and bringing no debts for the club to pay back. This was after 14 years of hard graft. Swansea fan think like the fans of large English centres and want to have a free lunch and a sugar daddy pay for it. The mentality of Zaza Gabor or some WAG. Bet 3565 and Gibson are out of pockets for hundreds of millions and no better off than Swansea. Swansea fans should be better than that, and were trusted to be owners. Their representative are a not for profit organisation and they naively believed other investors should be "not for profit" too and end up like them skint and confused. Not a chance.

This is my take on HJ and it is shared by many I talk to. He did well for the club for quite a few years, but he lost all credibility when he left and the way he did it. The good memories are gone and its the bad taste we remember more than anything. All the propaganda you post will never change a thing.

You have been fed pro Trust propaganda for years by "onside" forums and planted posters mates of mates. They have now been exposed for their uselessness and face a struggle to maintain interest. Dim members wanted their day in court and pointless bloodletting for free and found out no one would fund it least of all themselves. Their English legal chums wanted an arm and a leg and even then got fed up with them it seems. Swansea fans were given the honour of owning 20% of the club and have proven to be not up to the job. Losers will be losers. The fans will go to the "Sellout" stadium with "sell out " short sponsorship. The Trust will be in their pod asking for £10 to continue to achieve nothing having been freed from the responsibility of match investing. [Post edited 3 Aug 2022 15:52]

Doesn't change people's opinions as you post your own. If anything your continual posting reiterates the stance supporters have and only continues to do more damage to Jenkins already poor reputation. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The younger generation are interested in today and the future. They have an interest in past players but as for the history of club directors and club historical politics never.

| Validation of Wengerworld. on 15:37 - Aug 1 by vetchonian | The same great man who appointed Monk a rookie manager permenantly and allowed him to dismantle the "the Swansea Way" I repeat when Martinez left your hero made loud noises about continuity and how Curtis and Pascoe would always be part of any coaching set up....Pascoe left with Brendan but Curt remained and was part of Laudrups team upon whom HJ attempted to foist Monk.....HJ then allowed the great Monk to relegate Curt to kettle duties..... HJ got lucky his luck ran out....I repeat the club had great opportunity to use the academy to develop both players and coaches in the club philosophy with coaches progressing in to the first team set up too....like the old Liverpool boot room which worked well in the 70sand 80s |
We were established and on the cusp of becoming a serious proper club, one that would overtake Cardiff for all time . We had the opportunity and the time to ensure we didn’t lose it Jenkins lost our club and put it into the bin

Only the top 5 or 6 are established in the Premier league. Swansea will never be one of them because the board do not want to underwrite wages of £200k a week and rising for temperamental south Americans. Swansea have to be cute and dip in and out of this world on more sensible budgets. The club got it right for 6 seasons but it was never a sustainable method. The only other small club to do this recently on a budget without stupid risks is Burnley with Sean Dyche the high priest of the club's philosophy. In my 'Wengerworld model' Winter and Silverstein are trying to recreate a 'football playing' Burnley with Martin in place of Dyche. Repeating what Jenkins achieved will almost be impossible. The club is not in the bin. The Trust wanted to cash in as they thought the ship was sinking. Far from it. After 6 years it was still floating and prospering. You and your chums live in a fake world of doom gloom betrayal and mind numbing negativity. No one can keep you happy unless they are a sugar daddy investors losing £100m like Steve Gibson at Boro, (Great bloke) Congreve Lloyd Cotterill are the next on the Jenkinista conveyor belt. It does seem a dud signing but last day in the window and the DoF who pushed it through lost his job. This might seem a warning to those who do not follow the mantra just like the great Frenchman. The CLN will be converted on the conversion date. The post that the club will be sold before the conversion does not seem to have any traction. One rogue post.

Swansea is in a good place and will continue to challenge to get to the Premier leagues. It has spent very little time there over their history and most were under Jenkins's tenure. It is not easy. There were some legacies form his time but his work helped clear them such as today there are no debts. You are never satisfied and never will be. It is part of your character. Swansea are Wales no 1 already and have been for 15 years or so, No big deal.
