The Penalty 11:04 - Aug 14 with 4348 viewsThrasher6

Having seen it back this morning.....it was never a penalty. Darling never touched him. The ref was staring straight at it....and didn't hesitate. It seems we always get the rough end of the stick with these decisions.....although you could argue that the standard of refereeing is to blame and nothing to do with bias towards us.

I pointed out to my companion that this ref has form.Bad form.
That said, we created our own problems again.

Blackpool had chances to win the game

Fisher was miles better and made crucial saves but he has to take more command .

It's so clear how he deliberately pulled his foot away, as the Blackpool player looked for contact.

Darling even put his hand up for the yellow card for him diving

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Andy Robinson wasn’t far from me and I thought it was a penalty too. Not sure if the media get replays, but it looked it in real time, from that angle.

I’m sure he’s seen it since and revised his view.

The ref is an issue, the team that takes its chances is the team that wins the game.

Trundle on Swans TV initially said it was then after watching the replay correctly said it wasn’t.

It was obvious Trunds is not a fan of the tippy tappy stuff at the back.

We used to tippy tippy with Ash but we had Leon to play the ball into and Ash could knock a great long cross field ball. I used to have my heart in my mouth regularly.

As for the pen, soft is an understatement. The technical term I believe is a home town decision.

‘Soft’ would indicate that it could have gone anyway with a minimum of contact.

This was not a penalty. No contact. Blatant dive.

Whatever the ref thought he saw only he knows.

I think he likes it in general but he’s always wanting us to take more shots. If you watch the highlights on YouTube you can hear him gasp in exasperation when Obafemi picks up the ball in the box and instead of trying to shoot lays the ball back 20 yards.

A perfect endorsement from seeing less when actually at the game. It’s incredible how many people have no idea what they have just watched, where as if televised nobody at home would be in doubt as to what happened.

I missed the game, watched the highlight package and it obviously was not a penalty. There was a potential handball there, but the ref didn’t give it for that. He blew seconds later when the player went down, but clearly no contact.

Here is the handball for anyone who didn’t see. Although he had his back to the shot his arm stopped the ball going goal bound. Would have been harsh, but seen them given.

Andy Woolmer.

As soon as I realised it was him I thought, Here we go again.

He and Bobby Madeley are bad news for us. I see thar Madeley is back. Pity!

I was hoping he wouldn't return.

Absolutely correct, but only tells half a story.

If all you want is certainty over whether decisions are correct, then watch every game on tv.

If you want to see patterns of play and have a holistic overview of what’s going on, rather than the small square following the ball, then watching live is the better option.

The whole atmosphere and camaraderie, which is obviously a different argument, is for me at least, a big part of following your local team. A mixture of both, which I’m lucky enough to have, suits me fine.

As an aside, I think the Championship probably merits VAR, which would eliminate this issue.

Fair comment but,at a game, you are not objective ,being carried along with the emotion of it all. It's why fans get hooked to going in the first place. It's why fans get upset, angry, joyous, depressed and plain mullered watching THEIR team.
Not sure why we have so many fans who actually grade other fans.
I recall one poster slagging off anyone who had left Swanea having the cheek to call himself a fan in the first place having nobbed off from Swansea.Fact.
At this time,we had a Kiwi jack who must have listened /watched our games at Stupid O'clock.THAT is fanship not having 5 pints in the Alma /Globe then strolling down to the Stadium with chums gossiping about fans far and wide.

This is absolutely true. I’m less objective at the game. Everyone gets swept up in the atmosphere, especially away, and I’ve normally had a couple of pints.

Same goes for people not born within 5 miles of the Vetch. I saw someone on social media saying Elis James isn’t a proper Jack because he’s not from Swansea. I prefer going to games and living in Swansea makes that much easier. I still watch 75% of away games on streams.

The away stand had pillars supporting it, which obscured the view at times. Supports what people are saying about watching on tv.

Thankfully very rare nowadays. Not sure if Goodison still has them.

The term Jack has morphed from its original ,which was indeed a Swansea person,to one who supports the Swans.
Ive accused people of that which you mention myself and regret that as the term is now different and that is fact, right or wrong. Words evolve and Jack has indeed done that.

My fathers lot were from deepest Cardy, all difficult, all Welsh speakers and never ever saw themselves as Jack even when they moved to Swansea after the War. My father never used the term either. My moher was a Sandfields girl and rather different.Im amazed they stayed together for over 70 years without her killing him.

From my perspective, it’s now linked to supporting the football club (see YJB chants for numerous players with no prior connection to the area).

Using Elis James as an example, I’d consider someone from West Wales who goes home and away whenever he can, far more of a Jack than someone from the Sandfields who supports Liverpool or Man Utd.

Appreciate that’s not how the term originated.
