What An Overreaction By Some 06:27 - Aug 17 with 4125 viewsSTID2017

The reaction to some on here ( especially AC ) is totally stunning.
The calling on multiple posts (many by AC, when one would have done ) for Martin's head, blaming him for the failure by the players to not only put the game to bed but then to hold on to a 2 - 0 lead shows the existence of an agenda on here by a few to blame the manager for everything.
Every player left on the field is a professional footballer and should know what it takes to kill the game and see it out.
We should have been out of sight well before the start of added time.
Any manager going into added time 2 - 0 up would be justified in feeling he had done enough and would rightly expect a victory.
The players have to take full responsibility for this result.

I've been massive critic of Russell Martin, you can't blame him for last night conceding two goals in injury time. It was just poor game management from the players and sometimes in sport you just bottle it, make stupid decisions under pressure.

I was lot happier last night walking away from the stadium despite the result, I thought we played decent stuff and Millwall were no mugs, they looked a good football side. Taking Joe Allen and Ryan Manning off lost a bit of impetus, we just don't have decent reserves to back up the first team.

I honestly don't know what Russell's sees in Sorinola, normally with players this small they have pace that make up for their physical appearance. He will be bread and butter for most wingers in this division. Nathan Wood was impressive for the most part and you can see the potential there for him to develop. Cameron Congreve looks a very good technical player and looks like he should be playing in the Piroe role, but he is another player who lacks pace.

A new right wing back is urgent, plus set piece specialist playmaker and possibly a bit of attacking depth to the team.

Even when you know, you never know?

Great summary. Poor choice of substitutions which would have made sense if we had a three goal cushion. It's been a truism in football for decades that a two goal lead is the most precarious, one goal transforms the game. I'm the original Martin critic but I'm not joining in today's overkill.

Cooper's brand of football is dead and gone from Swans.
Thank goodness.
What Cooper managed to produce at Forest last season was far more exciting and consistent than anything he produced for us, especially that pathetic excuse for a final.
If Martin had got us to the same final and produced such a stale performance, you, AC, Kerouac and a few others would have been totally blaming him. So consistency needed for all round perhaps ?
We have seen three exciting games of football this last week, as Swans fans we were of course disappointed with the outcome of two of them but the neutral would have enjoyed them all.

Amen to that.

“To lose one parent may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.”
What would Oscar Wilde say about losing four leads in the last 12 games at the very last minute?

I agree that the players need to share responsibility for what happened with the manager. I also agree that his alarming tendency to have favourites and to freeze others out is seriously hampering our ability to manage situations like last night.

And if the players are panicking, why is that? Because they are not clear about what they are supposed to do, because they are clear but have no faith in it, or because they are afraid of the consequences of disobeying their orders?

Sorry, but Martin does need to take his share of the blame. And I don’t see much sign of him doing that voluntarily.

Don't know about poor substitutions given the circumstances with some players re. injure comebacks and booking but shifting players out of original positions we lost our shape and the midfield drop a bit too far back crowding the defence and gave their midfield too much time on the ball.
As for the general play and atmosphere it was good, the crowd seem to be well behind the team which only fuelled the later disappointment.

Why are we still pushing for further goals in 90 minutes when game is won,,that is down to the gaffer to see game out..si ye it is Martins fault in a sense, same last season at reading and home to Bournemouth, he just carries on playing same way, where as game management, should be taken on board..

When we were attacking them they were producing nothing.

When we went defensive it invited them to attack. We can't just soak up the constant pressure. All we were hoping for was a breakaway goal.

It's a cliche but "attack is the best form of defence".

Not in the 90th minute when 2 nil up.you see game out to final whistle get compact take ball into corners win little free kicks throw ins..not be expansive and push men on leaving gaps..the game should be won noneed push for more...otherwise we will keep conceding late goals as its Bern proven.

Hard to argue with any of that, especially after conceding the first

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

So they pull a goal back, why in gods name did we restart, give it to Grimes who hits a hopeful ball upfield when all game we had been playing keep ball (successfully), Martin wouldn't have had time to instruct soft lad to do that

That's what we do. That's our routine (and the majority of clubs) from a kick off or restart we or they pump the ball diagonally into the opponents far corner. Have people not noticed that before?? If we had played it back and started playing tippy-tappy we would have been asking for trouble.

Quite simply, if we're attacking , they're not.

Trying to shut shop doesn't work. As has been proved far too often.

You don't get it do you it's the 90th minute 2 nil up game won,if you shut up shop for last few minutes take balls in corner, buy little free kicks throw ins run clock down you win game,if you carry on attacking leaving gaps all over place you get exploited, every team does it from part timers to pros,as for us we kept trying attack with gamble balls giving it straight back to them and that's Bern our downfall and another thing if our best form of defence is attack why do we concede so many..just asking

Because its 90th minute and its about game management.. there no need play that way in 90th minute when game win and 2 nil up see game out keep possession buy free kicks throw ins take ball in corner and if you lose it stay tight instead of going for another,we were still trying play like we did first half in the 90th,and that was why we conceded as we were open, and made it easy for them...

Surely that has to be down to the players. A bit of common sense, not sure how Martin can be blamed for that

Because they are instructed and managed by him to play a certain way..most managers in dying minutes of games tell players take in corner kill time get silly free kicks when game is won you see managers all time going mental if a playebreaks and crosses it to give possession back to opposing team in dying minutes, but not Martin he encourages it and that's why we concede so many late goals

So you didn't see him go mental when Grimes put the ball straight back to Millwall when we kicked off after it went to 2-1?

That’s right, I enjoyed the game, I thought we played some excellent football and I took positives from the game.

You just come out with your usual crap about Fisher, Naughton, Grimes and the manager.

As it goes, though I am obviously disappointed I too enjoyed the game.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

If it’s the managers responsibility in the first 5 minutes, it’s also the managers responsibility in the last 5 minutes.

They are playing under instruction, this is professional football. They don’t play as they want to play, they play as the managers tells them to.

That’s the biggest misconception people tend to have, that footballers have a mind of their own. Those that do, don’t tend to last very long in a side.

Nonsense.
Flair players especially often grab the game by the unmentionables and take it it in a different direction.
They are not robots.
A captain with a bit of dog in him would have seen that game over the line.

That’s because they are given the freedom to, under managerial instructions.

What is the point of a manager if you don’t think the players play the way a manager asks?

And if that’s the case then why did you blame Cooper when we lost? Surely the players can play well right? “

They are professional footballers mun”
