Swansea City v Cardiff City Matchday Thread : 2022/23 UPDATED ! 00:33 - Oct 19 with 13334 viewsNotLoyal

It’s the big old South Wales derby with nothing to play for but pride and prejudice. It’s LIVE on the tele box too.

Referee: DARREN BOND
Assistants: Shaun Hudson and Philip Dermott
Fourth Official : David Webb

The incredible Swansea City stat that the derby game against Cardiff has thrown up 18th Oct 2022 11:13
Last season we saw Swansea City put seven goals past Cardiff City over two games in the so called ‘South Wales’ derby. The first ever double was completed in the history of the fixture and Cardiff City were put to the sword over two one sided games. However, there’s a startling stat regards that first home game of last season almost a year ago to the day. 0

The Swansea v Cardiff derby game will set the pulses racing 20th Oct 2022 08:00
There is no longer a battle for domination in South Wales between Swansea City and Cardiff City. That was put to bed last season when the swans successfully beat their rivals over two games to record the first ever double in the history of the fixture. As they did so Swansea scored seven goals over those two games to completely embarrass the bluebirds. 0

Cardiff City battle cry before the derby game with Swansea 21st Oct 2022 11:48
Mark Hudson, the interim Cardiff manager and possibly in the ring and on the ropes this Sunday has issued a call to arms to his players. Someone who knows the Welsh derby and it’s meaning with over 160 appearances for the bluebirds is riding on the back of two defeats this week. 0

The team beat what was in front of them, ten men or not that is all they can do and they got the three points.

Plenty of spaces to be exploited if we got heads up earlier to look for pass to the runners before they had got themselves offside.

One of the very few times earlier in the game we played "risky" balls into the feet of our players in or near the edge of the box the interplay between our three attackers meant Obefemi really should have scored.
We seem happy to play "risky" balls to feet in our half but not in theirs?
Get the ball in the box more often trying to get to feet, nobody likes having a ball pinballing around their own box.

And once more for the crowd, 83% possession and only 2 goals, we should have put 5 on them.

We've scored 2 goals with 49% possession.

Short passing was never a problem, it's where we pass and how we pass that matters.

We won, enjoy it. Now on to the next game because that's what is important now.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I'm loving it, don't worry - maybe I should have included <sarcasm> tags. According to some, short passing was very much the problem.

And we would have scored 5 if Oba had his shooting boots on, and the ref/lino had seen a blatant handball.

Jeeez.
Obafemi coughed up two sitters and could have had another on top of that and Cabango's zinger was well saved.

Never seen a player completely dissappear in every Derby the way Joe Ralls always seems to do, he's their captain and been there a good while, yet always seems completely anonymous.

You could usually count on him to put in some heavy tackles like the talentless clogger he always has been, but this is the first derby I can remember where he's been almost totally AWOL.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

That was a product of the extra man. The short passing was a problem, in fact it’s been a huge problem - which is why we have since tripled the long balls.

But short passing is the way to go against 10 men for basically a whole match because in that instance they have to chase you and for once Martin’s “they will stop running” is basically a guarantee.

After 7 minutes the game changed tactically, would be ludicrous to think anything otherwise.

We can brag this and that, but the game was over after 7 minutes. It is one of my pet hates watching football is an early sending off, we will never know if Cardiff would have been competitive. I felt today looking at both line ups on paper, it looked the weakest derby in years.

Even when you know, you never know?

Even if Cardiff had 11 I don't believe they would have competed.
The sending off just compounded their issues.
Excellent win and should have been more convincing but so what ?
As you say just enjoy it.

The lack of pace out wide is definitely somewhere we can improve on. If I'm being honest I'm not really taken with Cundle either. Willing worker but i think both Pato and Ntcham would offer us more.

Cundle offers far more than Paterson already. You can definitely rely on a certain performance level from him but Paterson is the most unreliable sulk we have. Hasn’t done much of note for quite a long time.
