I wanted to know how much coin doctors were earning, I thought it would be a big percentage of the NHS budget and it is, doctors get paid too much.

Does Drakefords phone only take incoming calls or is he able to phone out.

Protocol dictates its the new PM who calls, as both Boris and Rishi did Day 1.

Truss played this all wrong.

Many people are overpaid doctors are not. For overpaid look no further than the Senedd who are overpaid for what they do and expanding their workforce with no need. Everyone else is trying to make savings in these tough times.

Yes many people are overpaid out of the public purse and imo opinion doctors are definitely one of them as well as high ranking teachers and high ranking police, high ranking councillors and politicians all overpaid.
The gulf between top earners and minimum wage is obscene, it's way too much for any truly civilised society.
I've checked how much coin our doctors get and even seen a list of how rich our doctors are (worth) compared to other physicians across the World, it looks to me like the NHS can't sustain their high wages and it's something nobody is taking about, many because politicians and press are nearly all rightwing and are looking after each other, feeding the masses bull and keeping them in the dark like mushrooms.

The money doctors and consultants get in this country is obscene, a good start would be to get rid of lots of pen pushers within the service and give a big salary cut to high earning GPs, consultants etc as they are crippling the NHS.
[Post edited 26 Oct 2022 17:54]

If you cut the salaries paid to GP’s and Consultants what do you think will happen?

I’ll tell you what will happen, they’ll all pack their bags and move somewhere where their skills will be appreciated a little bit more. Doctors are in high demand and they will be able to earn a lot more in places like Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, the Middle East etc. We don’t train enough doctors as it is, cutting their pay is only going to further increase the shortage. Cut the number of doctors, increase the work loads and just watch the service further deteriorate!!!

Not arguing with the point you make about reducing admin staff.

Doctors and consultants are better value than the Spivy MP’s and AM’s we have in power

That is what I want, I want those selfish greedy people gone.

It used to be seen as a vocation a calling if you like, they should want to help their countrymen and fellow citizens, to be born here and have family here and be educated here and still be able to earn a good wage compared to the rest of population should be more than enough for them to want to stay, those that only care about money and would turn their back on their roots for money (when there would be enough money on the table anyway, but not as much as now) then we would be well shot of those people.

You’re living in the past, if they went then our crumbling health service would decay even further.

The society you refer to died many years ago. We can’t pay bankers and politicians huge bucks and pittances to doctors. We pay the market rate or we wither on the vine.

What would you say is to much money for someone performing open heart surgery and who saves the life on a family members that costs you nothing ?

What is a reasonable salary for someone like that ?

I wouldnt pay bankers or politicians as much as they get now.

The lists I've seen have our doctors only behind doctors in the USA for money in the entire World, some lists take cost of living into consideration.

Not all doctors perform open heart surgery.

Everybody and everything has a cost, for example a bridge could be built over a railway line crossing down rural West Wales which they estimate will costs several million to build and will save 1 life ever 25 years, they won't do it because of the cost and that is an excepted practice.
You could have something wrong with you that the NHS won't cover although there might be a treatment for it somewhere in the World but it's deemed too expensive by the NHS.

Everybody has a price even when it comes to life and death.

Most of the lists I’ve seen don’t have the UK in the top 10 yet alone being second to the US.

Top professionals spend many years in Uni not earning a penny to get degrees in subjects such as medicine and then many further years mastering their area and undergoing countless further exams. The stress on their jobs are huge, they deal with, quite literally, life or death, every day. Of course they should be paid more than someone who, for example works in a shop. Why would you sacrifice years of income if not for higher rewards ?

Of course not all dr perform heart surgery, but most perform life saving operations or diagnose serious illnesses or save lives everyday. They deserve to be properly paid

I’ll ask you again how much do you think they should be paid ?

My cousin is a consultant surgeon and I know the sacrifices he’s gone through to get where he is and the long hours he works.

What do you think would happen if we didn’t pay these top professionals well ? They’d move abroad to where the would be paid well or an industry that does it.

There’s an argument to pay MPs more but with no second job.

We cannot and should not pay all people on a relative equal pay bracket, i certainly wouldn’t t have bothered spending 4 years in Uni, 2 years or more or less minimum wage as paralegal and working days and then on call through the night for around 15 years when I was a solicitor if I wasn’t trying to get to my stage now where I’m comfortable.

Sacrifices he gone through hey, I might have been born at night but it wasn't last night.
This country give people free education up to a certain age, subsidised after that, free healthcare within reason and these people you talk about would turn their back on their own kind and sell themselves to the highest bidder and treat foreigners rather than their own kind to earn even more money, I don't want people like that in this country.

Let them who's God is money go.

The job you do is often to put innocent people away or get off guilty people, because as we both know your job is a game, the judicial system we have is not about finding out who is really guilty and who is really innocent but who can argue a case and convince a judge or jury the real truth is irrelevant.

There is no comparison between you and a surgeon.

People putting themselves on a pedestal wanting more than the next man but of course it's not more it's lots more and that is the problem.

Again you don’t answer the question as to how much highly skilled doctors should be paid ?

Yes, people who spend many years in training have sacrificed, time, social lives, receiving no wages etc in order to get where there are. I was lucky in that I was the last year (97) to get a grant for Uni, there are folk coming through in my profession with £50-£60,000 plus debt from university, doctors will be likewise if not more. How is that subsidised ? When I did my Solicitors qualification (lpc) in 2002 it costs £8,000 for a one year course. It is now around £15,000 !

May I ask you this ? We have a shortage of doctors and nurses in this country, many have left following Brexit. What is your solution to filling that void ? Obviously you would be adamantly against any person, in whatever circumstances coming over from abroad so they would have to be British (‘these people would turn their backs on their own kind…I don’t want people like that in this country ‘) . If they aren’t paid well, what do you do ?

People get paid according to the scarcity of their skills.

Are you saying all people should be paid a similar wage irrespective of what they do ?

I’m not comparing myself to a surgeon, I’m just speaking from my experience of wanting qualifications to earn a decent wage, but we do deal with situations where people can go to prison for life, trials which last months, so of course, we should receive decent remuneration, else why we would, put ourselves through the stress of working 18 hour plus days for weeks on end ?

If we haven't got enough trained doctors of our own then I'm all for bringing in overseas doctors but they should only get the same renumeration as our own doctors which if it was up to me would be less than they are on now.

As regards how much less I will let you know when I get round to looking up what a reasonable minimum wage is and how many times more the top earners in this country should earn compared to a minimum wage earner.

No I'm not saying people should be paid a similar wage irrespective of what job they do but the disparity between top earners and minimum wage is too great.

We have gone from one of the most equal societies pay gap wise in Europe/Western World to one of the most unequal society's pay gap wise after decades of Conservative and NuLabour rule we need to get back to being a fairer more just society.

We now live in a 'me me me' society which is very disappointing to see.
