Well I did happen to mention a few days back that the government was responsible for housing individuals in 4 star accommodation which was obviously going to encourage people to be smuggled in rather than deter them. And it does look like the Tories are indeed in total agreement with your "the more the merrier" mindset.

And like I have previously mentioned over the past few years that the (nigh 40 x's Swansea/equivalent unsustainable population increase as of 2022) started under New Labour and has continued to rise with the Tories.

There are less than 400 000 people living in this country who claimed asylum here.

I specifically mentioned the huge population increase because that has well and truly compounded the lack of housing availability crisis that has created the very situation where individuals coming from France have to be relocated into hotels.

Critical thinking, common sense and all that!

The double standards here are unreal. These folks cross an entire continent. Sometimes even two. There are numerous countries that could “process” them in a reasonable timeframe. But they are left free to roam and fend for themselves in jungle camps. Then the minute they enter our waters we pick them up, put them in hotels or barracks and look after them. It may not be the best situation but they are looked after. Given warmth and food and medical care. Yet we are the bad guys for not “processing” them quickly enough. We are the deeply institutionally racist ones despite looking after them a million times better than anyone else.

I can only imagine the uproar if we built the sort of jungle camps that are common place in the north of France.

I know it’s fashionable for a certain type of person to run down Britain and her people at every given opportunity and our system might be screwed but we show so much more humanity than 99% of the countries out there and I suppose we should be proud of that but it’s a big part of the reason so many want to come here.

Pretty standard responses of slating anything to do with the UK & not coming with anything that should/could be done to stop the problem.

I have mentioned others with their childlike naivety and sixth form/college campus activism mentality when wanting something, and being utterly oblivious to the repercussions of getting exactly what they desperately yearned for in the first place i.e. mass immigration by the million and millions after that.

"A puppy is for life and not just for Christmas" common sense is serious enough but when it applies to a human being its far more worse, because you cannot put human beings in kennels!

Those millions that have come to U.K shores since Tony Blair’s days and to this present moment in time have had to be housed and have public service provision. U.K population 58,890,000 in the year 2000 and is currently 68,729,078.

10 MILLION + increase it'll be sooner than we think!

A lot of the WOKEYS have either been very quiet of late or are now lashing out with yet more racist, thick, gammon vocabulary hate! I guess they are extremely annoyed by the thought that the gammons have been proven to be right all along!

Many are not refugees but financial migrants looking for a better life and we provide them with food and shelter when other countries simply dump them .

I know you and everyone else on here will agree with 'controlled' immigration because it is a fantastic thing because it has blessed the NHS e.g. Morriston A+E with a 50/50 overseas staff level when I have been there. Also the U.K and other countries have to take in manageable amounts of those fleeing war and persecution. That's moral to do also!

The trouble is common sense to foresee the repercussions of incomers arriving in unsustainable number was a case of "we'll have a few million in now and worry about it latter". Common sense went completely AWOL!!!!!

I don't think getting mad at a hypothetical "certain type of person" you've constructed is going to help resolve the issue.

Are you happy that we only processed 4% of the asylum applications we received last year from people who crossed the channel in a boat?

If we process applications faster then people who are successful in staying can be put to work if they are able to. It will save the state money and provide certainty and a safe, fresh start to someone who needs it. Likewise people who shouldn't be here or are unsuccessful in their claim can be deported.

Nothing hypothetical about them. We see these people every day. But I digress.

How would you suggest we speed up the processing process? Just wave them all through? Put yourself in the shoes of a processing officer. You have a bloke turn up he’s got no documents you don’t know what his name is or where he comes from. He’s claiming to be thirteen but he’s six foot three got a foot long beard and grey hair. You suspect he may not be telling the full truth. What do you do with him?

The processing of illegal immigrants is completely bogged down with appeals, some genuine, many not.

As long as we are signed up to the ECHR, nothing will change, illegals know that as soon as they set foot in Dover the chances of being deported are highly unlikely.

The only way to stop immigrants from arriving into this country illegally, is to allow in anyone that wants to come here, with no restrictions.

Not wasting £140 million on a Rwanda gimmick that’s achieved nothing would be a start. That money could be spent bolstering the NCA to actually crack down on the people smugglers. We should also be hiring more processing officers to clear the backlog which is why people are being put up in hotels. We should’ve been working much more closely with the French, much sooner than yesterday. With a bit more international co-operation we should be opening up routes so people can claim asylum from abroad so their applications can be dealt with before they get here.

That’s not the main reason.

Underfunding of courts, inability to staff processing centres, underspending on housing stock, no coherent routes for certain countries all play their part.

Over the last few years the number of immigrants processed has fallen dramatically and that’s not just down to spurious appeals.

This is a symptom of services being run down since 2010.

We’re in the midst of this crisis and still we have no plan.

You don’t think court backlogs are a thing?

4% of small boat crossers were processed last year, do thing that’s due to lefty lawyers?

Edit:

Found the stats -

Is this pattern purely down to an increase in appeals?

The pattern is due to the increase in arrivals. Before 2018 the number of people coming in on boats were in the hundreds a year. Now we’re getting a thousand a day. Of course the percentage is going to drop. These people who put these silly little graphs on Twitter know what they are doing. I refuse to believe that font of knowledge ‘Sam Freedman’ could make such a rudimentary and embarrassing mistake.

Give him a follow, he's excellent. Really balanced.

His dad's stuff (Lawerence Freedman) on the Ukraine is top drawer - he's Emeritus Professor of War Studies at King's College. Well worth a follow too

France offered support over a year ago that UK has only just accepted.
In the EU we had a degree of automatic support.
In the EU we also had legal ways of entering the country, now almost gone.
Per head of population the UK has the fewer asylum seekers / refugees than 23 other European countries and less than a 1/4 of the EU average.
Currently asylum seekers / refugees are put up in hotels because they are not allowed to work or house themselves although most want to and there are job shortages around the UK.
There is a crisis because the tory government slashed the workforce that would have been used to process the claims in good time. Most EU countries take a few weeks to a few months, UK months or years.
Patel had to be taken to Manston before she realised what is was (!) or that it was housing 4000 most of whom were sleeping on floors.
The cost of supporting these people is c£1.7 billion pa - the loss to the treasury by non-dom Brits (e.g. Mrs Sunak) £3.2 billion. The amount of tax lost in Britain through non-payment, avoidance (E.g. Mr Mogg) and fraud has increased to £35bn, according to official figures. No attempt has been made by government to address these losses
After yesterday’s budget it was claimed there is a shortage of young people in the UK to take the jobs available and contribute tax!
£billionaires are telling you to tighten your belt yet people with nothing are being blamed.

The hypothetical East African could apply for asylum in the first safe country he gets to. It’s probably far safer doing that than travelling across two entire continents in the hands of ruthless people smugglers and risking a 20 mile journey across water in a dangerously overfilled plastic dinghy.

I don’t want to sound like I have no heart here but if I were being persecuted and faced fleeing for my life my first thought would be to get to safety. I wouldn’t expect to be able to pick and choose which country I get to live in. And I certainly wouldn’t be on tik tok employing the services of people traffickers to do so.
