He really needs to start Flex and Cooper but there’s only so many who can play. I also thought Ntcham had a decent game, we just need to get that ball forwards quicker. Do that and someone is going to get a battering. |

We haven't won in 7. We haven't scored first in 7 either. If this division wasn't very poor we would be struggling, how are we still top 10 with our last 7 games bearing only 5 points? Why do we have to keep coming from behind to get a draw, why can't we score first? Why are we so poor to watch? 17 months in, barely any improvement and we are still to trust the process it seems.

| The Swans will be in the top six by mid February on 18:12 - Dec 18 by EagleEye | Until RM addresses the deficiencies in defence we are going nowhere. Wood, Cabango, Naughton, Latib selections just do not work when any 3 of those 4 are on the field together |
But Martin has won games with 3 of those, I think namely Cabango, Wood and Naughton (add Darling instead of Naughton has been played as well) but much of that depended on which role Manning was playing. When we are not pressed Manning could be seen causing problems down the wing when pressed he fell back to a defensive role, more or less a much needed left back role. but add to that the likes of Cooper, Oko-Flex, Cundle, Allen and Congreve with pace and speed of thought/play to push forward. Even against Norwich when Ntcham came on it was only until Manning reverted back to full back that they stopped getting in each others way down the wing channel we showed some threat, too little too late. When we lost Manning to injury it ended our better run and it upset the balance in the team and Martin went back to unsuccessful line ups again. The only time he has reverted back to the winning formation since was after the sixty minute mark against Coventry. I don't count the Cardiff game as reverting to winning formation because as soon as they had a man sent off the game was won, given the quality we do have. [Post edited 22 Dec 2022 8:26]

That’s just not true though is it. There are countless examples of comebacks from teams who can’t stand the manager. Our comeback vs Palace under Bradley comes to mind. Many of us didn’t like our managers in football over the years, we still want to win games though. At the professional level you have win bonuses, it’s within a players interests to win games. This whole “playing for the manager” thing is one of those myths that fans repeat, but reality is very different.

Somewhat agree with your views on Manning. When he played on the left side of 3 centre backs (a few times last season) his defence was pretty good. As a wing back his defending is pretty abysmal as he is caught out of position way too often. With regards the others I am baffled that RM feels that dropping Darling before Wood or Cabango is the way to go. Darling has errors in his game but definitely no worse than Cabango or Wood. He looks a far more assured ball player and defender than the other two. It seems strange that RM made his no 1 target from MKD in front of the likes of O’Reilly (now at Celtic) & Fisher but always seems to drop him first. As for Latib, he is played out of position, looks totally uncomfortable & ineffective in a wing back role. Naughton is way past his sell by date even in this average Championship squad. OK as a back up for the rest of this season but he should not be starting

I'd call that papering over the cracks. If people still refuse to accept the truth here there's no hope, they are eternal optimists! Against the form book though it is, I am still hopeful of 3 points on the 27th.

They are all just silly sound bites that mean nothing and bare no correlation with real life. Players have far greater things to play for than “the manager”. They have individual reputation and cash on the line, every single game. If we are saying that “it’s clear they are playing for the manager coming back from 3-0 down”. Then when we give away a 3 goal lead, is that proof that they despise the manager? In which case, why do they hate him and love him week by week? These things, if they are said, have to work both ways. In which case, one week it is proof they are “playing for the manager” and the next week it’s proof “the manager has lost the dressing room”. In reality it’s all nonsense. I’m sure they are as frustrated by Martin as we all are (well most of us I’d guess anyway).. the results as a whole will reflect why, but I don’t believe the players effort is dictated by their like or dislike of a manager, they are professionals. We haven’t won for 7 games, does that mean he’s lost the dressing room?

Good to have you back after the World Cup distraction which saw our country humiliated for all the world to see . We face an uncertain future and talk over extending Martins contract must worry folk. It is funny the spin people put on absolute dross to make it more palatable. I’ve never known a manager to give away so many 3 goal leads in such a short space of time. I can remember 3 off the top of my head and he’s not even been here two seasons. Yet the one single time we come back to DRAW from 3-0 down and it’s apparently eternal proof the players are “playing for the manager”. At the end of the day, a lot of these guys (if not all of them) have win bonuses. They aren’t stupid, they know the way they are being made to play is hampering them achieving that money, let’s not pretend they are happy about it or in any way are convinced this way of playing helps their chances of achieving it. We all know it doesn’t, we all know this football is horrific - some are still pretending otherwise though. We need to cut ties and give the new manager a chance in the January transfer window. Last thing we need to be doing is giving this guy even more money to waste on a playing style not fit to grace any level of professional football, the goal does not seem to have the most basic premise of the game as it’s main goal - which is to win.

The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. This is his 4th season of doing exactly the same the thing and not once has it worked. The only times it looked like he may have latched onto something is when he strayed from the 70% possession nonsense. When we got a decent foothold in the league, he went right back to the old ways - and again the result is exactly the same. No wins in 7, and if that continues for another week or two then we will be 16th or lower in a flash. But I expect he will ditch the possession stuff again soon, now the pressure is building again. So we can all look forward to another small surge followed by a regression to the ludicrous in the near future. Joy.
