Looking at static caravans 19:00 - Dec 21 with 4329 viewsCountyJim

Mrs and me really fancy one we can't really go abroad as she's now caring for her mum, So we've been looking fairly local Jesus wept!! Looking like a minimum 5k a year in fees alone.

Any recommendations in Gower area for example.

As I said we can't travel to far perhaps hour to hour and a half

As others have said, the closer to the coast you get the higher the site fees you're likely to pay. The only solid piece of advice I can offer is to avoid Parkdean Resorts like the f*cking plague. Absolute con artists.

My mother has one at a site in Ceredigion. It's about 15 minutes drive from basically everywhere down there. Cardigan, Tresaith, Newquay, Llangrannog, Aberporth and Aberaeron. Nice little site with a clubhouse. Very peaceful and lots of wildlife. Think she pays about three grand a year site fees.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Have one in between Solva and St David’s for the past 25 years, within easy walking distance of the Coastal Path, 2 miles from St David’s harbour (Porthclais) where I have a mooring for a small boat.
Changed the caravan 7 years ago, ground rent £2.5 K a year, a well kept site with no club house or swimming pool.
Very quiet site for most of the season except for school holiday time because the owners have opened up 2 large fields for campers.
Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else when the weather is good..just love the area.

Jim is looking to travel one to one and a half hours. He will soon find out in Drakefords Wales some days travelling from Newport he will only get as far as Port Talbot.

I've found the closer to the sea the more expensive , certainly in the case of Tenby etc . there's nIce and very popular site (caravanners Club ) in Rhayader, a mix of statics and tourers . Narberth north of Tenby has quite a few with good travelling times to the far west coast etc , ideal for us

The Rhayader site is great, only a five minute walk into town, and parks.

We have one overlooking Oxwich bay. Absolutely stunning views but as mentioned, the costs involved are eye watering. Plus you have to replace the caravan after a certain amount of years (depends on site).

Mad thing is the caravan replacement requirement is purely about aesthetics.

Site owners don't want too many old looking caravans about as it dissuades potential new owners, no matter how well an old caravan has been maintained.

Indeed, it’s staggering. A bit scammy, to be honest.

This thread is a topical one for us. We sold our van near Tenby earlier this year and started looking for an alternative. When I looked inland I didn't have a clue where to try.

So your mention of Rhyadar, Builth, is very welcome. I've just had a google look. Do you know if there's a riverside path into Rhayader ?

It’s a beautiful part of the world which I know quite well.
It’s central obviously and plenty of open land for walks .
Elan Valley is something to behold

Too quiet for us though especially considering weather isn’t the best .

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Yes there is. About 800 yards into town.

Wonder how much Drakeford will charge you for a static caravan in council tax is it a second home.

Mr Drakeford has stated that if it can't be occupied 52 weeks of the year there is no tax, it's not a second home. He doesn't pay tax on his "chalet". 50 week available occupancy is tax exempt. You know what to go for.

Just seems odd not to tax an genuine second home which will probably be only occupied for a few weeks in the summer but to tax a genuine Holiday business that brings visitors and tourists to Wales as well as jobs. I am sure Drakeford knows best. It will just put Wales at a disadvantage to the rest of the UK where Holiday businesses have to be occupied 120 days a year but in Wales will be need to be occupied for 168 days a year.

Take into account your likes/dislike, there may be no need to be at the more expensive coast sites.
Your finances! may be a cheaper better option to have a tourer and have it stored at the site /area you like, and they will park it up ready for your arrival , giving you different neighbours (may be better than having the same lot you may not get along with all the time)

Having looked into this several times, agree getting a decent Tourer and keeping it on a regular site is far favourable to paying a fortune to stay on a glorified housing estate like Trecco Bay

We go to the Beacons when possible, with your dogs great walks, and the nights outside on a clear night is a sight to behold.
