| What do Swansea City have to do to please a small section of the clubs support ? on 16:32 - Jan 18 by cadleigh | I was a bit confused as to the authorship of this article. Is it Swansea Independent? Swansea Independent Sunday Voice? I have no objection to people sharing their opinions under a pseudonym (after all I do, as do most people on here) but if you are going to challenge other posters to cheer up, it would be helpful if we could see what the author was posting when Cooper was the manager, or Potter, or Sousa. If they were arguing that everyone should lighten up and get behind the manager then, fair enough. But maybe there's a way of seeing the previous posts by this author and I'm just not clicking in the right places, in which case apologies are due. I don't class myself as an armchair supporter. I'll be there at QPR (but I won't be joining other Indy posters I'm afraid as I'm doing Dry January - next time!). But I do acknowledge I am a critic of Russell Martin and it would take a pretty big turnaround to change my views. It's not just the walking football/possession for its own sake that he constanty reverts to that annoys me (I get that some supporters love it; each to their own), it's the refusal to take responsibility for his mistakes, throwing players under the bus in the media, and subborn refusal to learn that annoys me. To return to the question asked at the top of this thread, am I annoyed for no reason? Not at all, I have lots of reasons to be annoyed! |
A few will be drinking Coke and coffee ( tbh I will probably have my usual three and that'll be me done ) Why not join us for a bit of a friendly chat before the game. Fireboy is hosting ( and hopefully buying all the drinks !! ) Message him for any info

| What do Swansea City have to do to please a small section of the clubs support ? on 10:35 - Jan 18 by jack247 | That isn’t true. Potter thought he was getting Ryan Woods for £5m or so depending on sales (which happened). He was even ‘unwell’ for his press conference when reality dawned. He jumped at he Brighton offer because they were in the Premier League, as virtually anyone would have done. You’re far too astute to believe he’d have stayed here if they’d given him a couple of million to spend. To not give Martin money because they haven’t got money to give is one thing. To not do so because they don’t trust him to spend it, when we’re 3 points off the playoffs and we’ve earned more from selling one of his signings than we’ve spent in total since he’s been here would be lunacy. |
I don't doubt that Woods was an agreed target if we could, but there was no way on Earth that the club would be spending £5m on any player that summer, and Potter knew that. I suspect if more people knew the true situation that the club was in at the time nobody would have been demanding we spend that much on anybody. I'm still quite startled that we spent as much as we did.

I'm driving up and my 14 year old son is coming so I'll be on coffee or coke myself but I am going to meet the other indy's. I agree with you post, I am a martin critic too just not to the same extent as some others here. I think Martin gets too much praise from some, too mucncriticism from others. Like you I feel I have good reasons to be annoyed. We went last night, we left after the first period of extra time. Apart from coopers goal there was little to cheer. Most frustrating to me was watching Matt Grimes play soe of those line braking passes to simply get the ball straight back, compounded by his being just outside the penalty area, right in the middle of the pitch and facing goal having gone past 2 players and instead of shooting he played what turned out to be a poor pass out to the left. he was in prime shooting position, he had momentum and he shite out, that sums him up for me.

Does he not realise that rhe extra revenue from winning Cup matches and reaching the next round means he can strengthen the Squad during the transfer window. His next excuse in February will be we did not get in New players. |
amazing really we made 7 changes from Saturday...supposedly I guess to rest players....I still dont this pampering of professional sports persons and fatigue I ve mentioned thos before where we had fathers and grandfathers who worked 6 days a week doing physical work for 8 hours or more yet a couple of hours training a day and maybe 90 mins of competence play during which time they are not flat out..anyway despite that Bristol fielded the same side and won and according to what I have read we looked flat put on our feet despite our walking football yet Bristol won......so sorry for the negativity I couldn't get there and didnt listen so womt make many comments but from what I've seen did we regret to 3 at the back again respitenus being better with a back 4 and what was Lati doing in midfield

In fairness (in context a loose term I know ) but Grimes wasn't the only only one guilty of not taking on a shot , I lost count the number of times it looked like we were trying to walk the ball into the net and was reminiscent of Arsenal under Wengers reign but minus the skill . The amount of space Congreave had in the certainly the first half and not spotted or ignore was unreal , it would appear theres no on in the side with the vision or ability to ping a ball diagonally Ash Wiiliamd style .

Maybe the thread title needs changing. What do Swansea City have to do to please the majority of supporters would be more accurate. The majority of the fan base are totally disillusioned in my opinion. The football would put a glass eye to sleep. Another poor window is looking likely. A manager unwilling to adapt. An ownership who appear disinterested. Winter was talking about 15000 season tickets for next year it needs to work both ways fans are not stupid. [Post edited 18 Jan 2023 20:21]

Whether you believe WOL or Sportsmole or not, one is saying a bud of £6m was rejected, the other is saying a deal was subsequently agreed. We then backed out of it. Not long after that, he went to Stoke on loan and they signed him for more than that in the January. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ https://amp.sportsmole.co.uk/f Why we’ve agreed a fee for a player we can’t anywhere near afford, I don’t know. Potter seemed as surprised and disappointed as anyone at the time. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they did the same at a lower fee with Ogbene
