Almost like the manager and him had an irreparable relationship isn’t it? What a revelation.

Grow up and debate sensibly. We know he’s persona non grata at the club, just like he was at Southampton. Same goes for Paterson. We also know why he refused to play for us.

You are calling people who have a different point than you agenda boys, I think there is only one of us that needs to grow up here. The point I made is clear. They are both persona non grata, because they both dislike the manager and refuse to play or he refuses to play them. It’s a fact, a fact you don’t seem to like. Yes we do know why he refused to play for us, because he doesn’t get on with the manager and wanted to leave, hence why he also told Ogbene not to come - why would he do that if he had no issues with the manager and just wanted to move on? As usual, the evidence is heavily in my favour here and I’m always proven correct. [Post edited 29 Jan 2023 10:55]

You mean Ogbene? Right, now we’re getting somewhere. I’ve never once said Martin isn’t refusing to pick them or hasn’t ostracised them. He’s clearly given up on mollycoddling, which he’s done with both after their initial strops. I’ve quite correctly pointed out the reasons both refused to play(which you subsequently agreed with) were not due to the manager. To suggest they were refusing to play for him personally, rather than the club for financial/contractual reasons was misleading at best. Edit. The evidence isn’t in your favour at all. However many times you say it, they didn’t refuse to play for him or because of him. They refused to play for the club because of the club not bending over backwards to accommodate their demands Further edit. The point we are disagreeing on isn’t even an opinion, it’s fact [Post edited 29 Jan 2023 11:04]

Indeed, that’s why I said Ogbene. Right, so we agree Martin is ostracising them. Yet you don’t think Whitaker and Obafemi refused to play to get away from that situation? You have to see how ludicrous that sounds? Are you suggesting they refused to play despite desperately wanting to play for Martin and it being a heart wrenching decision? The evidence of common sense is surely all anyone needs in that situation without knowing the facts I do. Both no longer play for Swansea (Whittaker essentially doesn’t) because of Martin. That’s a fact. Meaning they are both refusing to play to force that move DUE to Martin. [Post edited 29 Jan 2023 11:08]

You said Ogbeta. People who saw your post before you edited it at 10.55 would have seen that. Not sure why you’d pretend otherwise. You know full well why he went AWOL and refused to play the day after deadline day. Martin isn’t picking him because of his attitude. Absolutely agree he’d been ostracised because of the way he’d behaved after that. As we know, it’s not the first club that’s happened. Whittaker will probably get his move, but if he doesn’t, we’ll see if he refuses to play for the rest of the season. If he does, I’ll happily say it’s due to Martin. Whittaker is refusing to play because it would stop him going to a Champions League club. Obafemi was a club looking dead set for the PL. You honestly think they’d want to stay under a different manager?

I didn’t pretend anything. Look at my time of post and the time of editing, then the time of you telling me what I meant… it’s self explanatory champion. Yes I know why he went AWOL, he wanted to move because he didn’t get on with Martin, Burnley offered him the way out and he wasn’t allowed to go. All three players would be Swansea players, and key Swansea players if it wasn’t for the way Martin has treated them. This is simply the way it is, as much as it clearly upsets you. That’s not saying Obafemi in particular doesn’t have a questionable attitude at times, but it would not have escalated to a stage where they all want to leave, if it wasn’t for Martin. Hence any refusal to play in order to force a move is a refusal to play due to the manager.

Where have I denied it? I corrected it within 20 seconds of posting. You thought you were clever and “corrected” it 5 minutes after I did. Hence my reply. The fact that your main angle of debate is now on a players spelling tells me you are spiralling again when your main argument is floundering. Gather yourself, pick yourself up and tell me why Obafemi, Pato and Whittaker don’t see Martin as one of the main reasons they want to leave, despite you acknowledging they don’t get on and in some cases ostracised. Your admissions and conclusions seems awfully messed up.

Where have you denied it? ‘Indeed, that’s why I said Ogbene’ As I said, took me 5 minutes to type the post. Most people wouldn’t have come back with your kind of remark. Had you said ‘yeah, I obviously meant Ogbene but mixed his name up with another player then quickly corrected it’, fair enough. Subtle with your words aren’t you? It’s changed from ‘refusing to play for Russell Martin’ to ‘see Martin as one of the main reasons they want to leave’ I disagree with the first assertion completely. Agree with the second, it’s a completely different point. I also think likely Prenier league football and a pay rise (back in January) and Champions League football are bigger reasons. These were undoubtedly the reasons they wouldn’t play at the respective times. Paterson and Martin seemed to get on fine until the contract extension clause debacle and immediate refusal to play.

How is that a denial? I did say Ogbene, read it again. Had you corrected me before I changed it, then I would agree with you, however I am not going to give you the childish satisfaction of correcting an already corrected name. But glad to see this appears to be the main thrust of your discussion now considering your other efforts are incredibly contradictory. Nope, every word I type, I mean. If you think it’s a subtle change then it’s likely you are reading it or interpreting it wrong. They refused to play BECAUSE of Martin. I will put it in caps for emphasis. If Martin is one of the main reasons they want to move, then any refusal to play to force that move is a refusal to play due to him. Not a tricky concept. Had Martin not acted the way he did with them, then they would not be forcing their moves. That simple. Hence why we have never had 3 separate players refuse to play in a single season at three separate times. Far too coincidental even for people that don’t know what I do. The benefits of moving are the benefits of moving, they are available to everyone. However these particular three forced it due to the relationship with the manager. If money and a bigger club is normality for people to refuse to play then why don’t we have half a squad refusing to play every season? You aren’t even being consistent with your (incorrect) assertions. [Post edited 29 Jan 2023 12:37]

Right then. If he’s the reason, let’s take the rest out. Hypothetical. August last year. No other club interested in Obafemi. Regardless of how he gets on with Martin (who had already dropped and reintegrated him the previous season) does he refuse to play for us? We’ve seen two premier league players do it this week. One of whom seemed to have a good relationship with his manager and the other had just seen his manager sacked and didn’t know who was coming in.

Why do you need to be hypothetical about it? I’ve just shown you on another thread (which you wisely ignored) that he was dropped long before refusing to play. He then pushed the nuclear button after weeks of being shunned by Martin and to force his move to another club. So while you can conveniently ignore the reason he pressed the nuclear button and say he refused to play “to force a move”, you are conveniently leaving out the circumstances surrounding why. You say players do this, and cited two this week in the league above us… but fail to recognise that we have 3 in the same side doing this, in the same season. The last time you suggested the info you heard on here was false, you later claimed to be fact. Remember when you said Pato didn’t refuse to play or train and that I made it up… common knowledge now old boy isn’t it? Of course he was interested in going to Burnley. I’m sure everyone is interested in leaving for more money and a bigger club. But very rarely will that lead to a refusal to play, and extremely unlikely will you get multiple in the same team doing it in the same season - unless there are factors forcing that. As usual daps, no doubt you will just have to wait until you agree and claim what you rejected at the time to be fact months down the line…

Because it removes the actual reason he refused to play. Without Burnley, he doesn’t refuse to play. Doesn’t mean he gets on with Martin. He started every game this season until Stoke away on deadline day, where he came on. Refusal came immediately after that. I’m not pretending it’s normal. What I’m absolutely saying is that when it does happen, there’s invariably a move to a bigger club involved.

It’s a happy consequence of moving clubs, everyone knows that. Grimes could have done the same, but he’s treated with respect by Martin so happy to stay. He knows he can make a shed load more if he left his contract run out, and it would be silly to say he isn’t motivated by money, we all are to an extent. But that isn’t the instigating factor behind them refusing to play. They refused to play largely because of the manager: Obafemi - hadn’t got on with Martin for weeks and months. Was dropped before he downed tools. Pato - hadn’t got on with Martin for the best part of 8 months, he’s downed tools because of Martin. Don’t believe he particularly wants a move, his best mate Liam Walsh is around and he’s picking up a decent wedge late in his career, but he can’t stand Martin and the feeling is mutual. Whittaker - I know less about this case but it seems pretty obvious to me. Martin shunning him after scoring a hattrick and farmed him out on loan. Called him back and told him he still wasn’t in his plans - refused to play to move away from the manager that is stunting his career. I imagine he would be doing the same if a fellow championship side were making a play for him. He just wants to play, hence why he was annoyed he was called back from loan. So again, players to blame too of course - but Martin and his awful man management is a key mover in all three situations. Again I ask, what other 3 players have refused to play in a single season for us before? This isn’t normal.

Exactly. No amount of arms around the shoulder will change that. I don't blame any player for wanting the best for themselves. However they need to act professionally at all times. As is well documented, Pato, Obafemi and now Whittaker have failed to do this.

But it doesn’t, you are removing the key reason. With a manager that treats him with respect, he doesn’t refuse to play. He may hand in a transfer request, he may be vocal about leaving… but he doesn’t refuse to play. You say whenever it happens there is a move to a bigger club involved. Who is after Pato then? Coventry? Massive. I notice you are focussing on the most volatile of the three too. Let’s touch on Pato, you put that down to his contract, but he’s got one now… and he still refuses to play at times and Martin still ostracises him… do you think he’s after another contract or do you think they may not get on? Be brave and admit that. [Post edited 29 Jan 2023 13:25]
