| asylum seekers on barges on 19:44 - Apr 11 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | I would wager that local Asian GP’s didn’t come here by paying for the services of people smugglers whilst throwing all their identity papers gleefully into the foamy brine of the English Channel. |
That's pretty obvious, but often used by many to muddy the waters.

So would I. The point I keep trying to make is that immigration (economic, refugee, illegal) is a complex issue. Distilling it to ‘Albanian gangsters are getting in so let’s stop it all’ is not helpful. It’s plays to the useless government dog whistle tactics - “look, a barge, aren’t we tough!” When it needs a grown up plan. When the government are pumping out these stories they’re keeping other thinks quiet, such as pretending leaving the EU has helped stem economic migration while giving out 57,000 working visas to non EU citizens last year. That’s because they don’t want to acknowledge that certain migrants are incredibly important to the economy. Thus won’t change while there are massive vacancies in the UK. I don’t think they’ve ever failed to acknowledge that migration is vital. If we have a skills gap we should fill it. That’s just absolute common sense. But on the issue of people coming in on the boats that scenario doesn’t apply. They often aren’t trained or have any valuable skills. Doubt half of them have much of an education at all. The cynic in me wonders why successive governments have been so keen to bring in millions of unskilled workers over the last three decades and the answer the cynic in me comes up with is they are willing to work long hours for absolute peanuts so get hoovered up by agencies and the gig economy and are provided to companies to work increasing profits and dumped when they aren’t needed anymore. In short they are exploited. We’ve seen articles in recent months about these immigrants many claiming to be children just absconding from their hotels and disappearing into the ether. Where do they go? They don’t have any documentation or right to work so can’t get a legitimate job so what can they do? They often disappear into the criminal underworld. Drugs or sex trade. Or washing cars fourteen hours a day for pennies. It’s a horrible situation for all involved but often stopping them coming here is as much for their own good as it is for ours.

I agree with everything you’ve posted. It’s so important that we acknowledge the seriousness of the increase in Albanian criminals crossing without letting it dominate the debate (while also acknowledging that there are some on those small boats who will have their asylum applications accepted and rightly so). I’m not ignoring the seriousness of the Albanian situation but the government must be loving the attention it’s getting. It’s all part of their culture war strategy which is housed around a ‘war on woke’. Good God, it’s been suggested on this thread that Judges are left wing biased! Things are tough at the moment and it’s all woke lefties fault, nothing to do with 10 years of austerity, 97% increase in supermarket profits since covid, Brexit, record energy company profits etc. Quick, look - someone’s had their Gollies taken away. The world has gone mad!

It is predicted that by 2025 that if the rate of conviction continues on the same level as now there will be more Albanians in British jails than in Albanian jails. Now of course it would be wrong to say all Albanians are criminals but anyone looking objectively at the figures should be able to see quite clearly that there’s something incredibly nefarious and organised going on here. For a population that is tiny to contribute to 10% of all foreign prisoners is something a bit special. And a lot of them are not in on small time offences. There are a number of drug barons, hit men, murderers. Top level bad guys. If there’s one industry Britain doesn’t have a skill gap to fill its crime. We’ve got some of the best criminals in the world here already. So why are we actively bringing criminals in? This is what is meant when we talk of control of our borders. Let the good decent people in who deserve to be here because we’re a welcoming tolerant country and tell all the scumbags to sling their hook. We are being taken advantage of BECAUSE we’re a tolerant welcoming nation. So any grown up conversation around immigration has to acknowledge enthusiastically the fantastic effect immigration has had on our society when it works, when we bring the right people in who will have a positive impact. The fantastic doctors and nurses, engineers, to the lovely lads who cook me a cracking curry every Friday night. But we also have to talk about counter balancing that point with the negative impacts of immigration. Like the driving down of wages. Or the extra pressure on public services. Or the apathy towards training our own kids in vital skills because we have become so used to bringing in cheap people from abroad. Or the facilitation of crime, exploitation and modern slavery that is happening in pretty much every street up and down the land right under our noses. Until people are allowed to talk about these very serious and real issues without being gang banged by the likes of Gary lineker and the Twitter rent-a-mob furiously trying to get people sacked and labelling them Nazis we will never get anywhere. I think that’s where the wokeys do deserve legitimate criticism. As does the governments of all colours (including those across Europe) whose shambolic handling of this issue for the best part of four decades must come under the category of gross incompetence. We have to get a grip of this situation. It cannot go on.

Those “ welcoming” migrants live nowhere near them. They wouldn’t wipe their feet on them. Utter hypocrisy

No but they’d happily “employ” them to clean their bogs for 3 quid an hour.

Which migrants? Economic migrants? Those seeking asylum? Or do you mean Albanian criminals?
