An attempt to clarify the position between Swansea and Southampton 5th Jun 2023 11:38
Another jewel in the Russell Martin to Southampton saga became evident yesterday when the Saints made it known to several journalists their position on the situation of his employment. And a new turning point became evident as a result. This means that once the Championship fixtures of Southampton are announced next week they will appoint Martin as their new manager. The reason ? Any compensation they have to pay for the appointment will be as a championship club. 0

Why is everything so flaming complicated with our club. Nothing ever seems to go smoothly wether it be managerial changes to signing players.
I honestly have come to the end of my tether.

Why are you having a go at our club, when it seems like Southampton are the ones you should be moaning about.
Surely we are entitled to get what we deserve financially.

Nothings ever straight forward with this lot in charge, it never has been since they've been here.

I agree with your last sentence, but there's plenty of past evidence of long drawn out drama's.

Because it’s yet another cloud over our heads. The quicker we move on the better don’t you think?

It baffles me.
Coach wants to leave so let him
If it costs ,it costs.what costs more is a bad pre season and preparation .

You tell “if it costs it costs” to hedge fund managers

Maybe a bit of a controversial statement but I think RM has carried himself quite well over the last few weeks. If he has spoken openly/publicly then I've missed it.

Ok... It seems obvious he's had discussions with another club having been 'Tapped up' but that is not uncommon in football nowadays.

I'm pleased he's leaving, I don't think we reached our potential with him, some things good, other things could have been a lot better, if he trusted the attack a little more and made us more ruthless I think we could have taken some stopping this year but hey ho.

Despite me being pleased we seem to be separating in our ways, I don't think RM has done anything particuarly wrong, he's under contract and is allowing his current employer and prospective employer to thrash out the details. Let's be honest, by hook or by crook he's gone this summer with either a transfer or sacking as.his position is now untenable. But why would he personally resign from Swansea and take up another post with all the legal formalities, costs and stress that will incur?

I want the club to get the best deal possible, but not at the cost of this dragging on for another 3/4 weeks. I (blindly) hope they already have his successor lined up and it's a case.of one out and one in with a quick transition.... But history tells me we may see this drag in for some time.

It's never dull being a Jack

Would be great to go back to the games under the lights standing on the North Bank , return there tomorrow , Doug Sharpe , Mel Nurse , Harry Griffiths and Roy Saunders . All Swans .

Football is a buisness , now driven by Sponsors and TV rights , a situation where potential investors dream of the promised land . Premier League , where their return is .

As with managers and players they want the best in their self interests , ok , but loyalty ,no.

Looks like Wrexham have done well in their boardroom choice , hope things do not go wrong for them if the bubble bursts , then Hollywood sticks with them .

They have hung on to Paul Mullin , he must have been a target for others .

It’s year after year. Managers, players come and go but the drama is constant.
We have a lot to do at the club regarding player contracts, pre season etc. Is it worth holding out for £400k? The owner’s priority should be focused on stabilising the situation in my opinion hence my criticism.

If it was your club and your money, would you hold out for the near half a million pounds you believe you are entitled. I would. Players are on holiday, transfer window isn't open yet, what's the rush.

It’s a balance.
Get rid now and it gives us plenty of time to prepare for next season. When we will not be able to get away with what we have done on the pitch .
We have to get players in of a quality to encourage fans and dispose of those who don’t really want, like Whittaker, and sell players like Piroe for a realistic fee. Grimes is ,IMO vastly overated and should be the first to be sold if a bid of six figures up front comes in. My opinion.

What we don’t want to do is leave it all to the last minute and start the season disjointed and disorganised .

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Stability. A new manager in place will want his own players. Yes the window isn’t open yet but i guarantee deals are already being done. Do we want to flirt with relegation, and how much revenue will that cost?

Indeed.
Penny pinching could cost us big time.
Relegation would be catastrophic .

We do not want to go down the same route as two years ago when the owners f@#£Ed about with cooper and got Martin in place iirc a week before the start of the season.

It's becoming a usual trend with our owners, it was a tad easier when we had parachute payments but since they evaporated they have become a bit scrooge like.

The Swans will be reluctant to pay out anything in June, it’s a dead month for clubs managing their budgets carefully. Thousands of pounds can be saved.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

I agree about not wanting to shell out hard earned, but they need to have the manager position and players lined up ready to go as opposed to delaying things. Lots of players have families, they need to sort out houses, possibly schools etc etc which takes time. If they’re looking at free agents, then the best will be snapped up early doors.

But you would think the manager would need to be in place before we start signing players.

Bit strange Watson signing players unless we have someone lined up.

I know someone who’s involved in professional sport, their contract came to an end a few weeks ago and while pre season doesn’t get underway for a while yet, that persons already signed their next contract elsewhere and is now being paid.

This could be see as dead time, but some clubs are actively recruiting and doing deals so the owners need to be moving things along - they can’t dilly dally and faff about. The Championship is different to the US, over here you get relegated over there you finish bottom and get to go again the following year.

I seriously doubt that he will be doing the signing, i would have thought that Watson will be doing a bit of scouting and putting his word across to the manager whenever he will be put in place 🙄

And half a mil could be 2 new players who come in on a free, for the whole year
