Piroe destined to leave Swansea City 8th Jul 2023 07:00
It’s a bit like buying a house this player transfer window. Ellis Simms moves to Coventry and that collapses Joel Piroe’s potential swap move to Merseyside, and that is a good example. However, despite that being the case it seems Everton are still comfortable with the money it will cost to sign the Dutchman. 1

where do you get the info about Leadbitter and McCaully!!!???

Mr Ledbetter was head of recruitment under Mr Jenkins. He had a mixed success rate but all his failures came at the end of the Jenkins era. He was a mixed bag. Low cost trading was great. McBurnie, James, Fulton, Grimes, Fabianski, Ferandez, vd Horn, Fer even Gomis were sound signings. Tabanou Eder Borja not so good. Too many duffers sadly. Tabanou was not even fit. Monk bit his lip. It cost him his job.

How Swansea paid £12m for a crocked player like Bony can only have been due to a lack of attention to detail. Clement had been more forceful would have rejected this player. Like Potter at Chelsea he accepted what he was given.

Ayew was a calculated risk that did not pay off. He could have even got Swansea back to the PL twice under Cooper. A missed penalty at v Brentford at the Liberty springs to mind then the Bees down to 10 men. Fulham scraped past a modest Cardiff team.

Potter wanted a change of recruitment as part of his terms for arriving and was given a decent £7m budget. There were great players available for pennies like Toney, Ogbene and Dickie. Swansea got Celina McKay Declan John and Asoro who Cooper got shot of pdq.

A search suggests Mccauley is still at Chelsea.

Swansea go again and the US guys are learning the tough lessons. They have lost 10 s of millions trusting poor recruitment. They must weep as Goykeres is sold for £20m when they could have picked him up for £1.5m (just 2 years ago). Muscular centre forwards with decent technique are difficult to find.

Colemen has his own money at stake and they expect him to prune out the duds Perhaps Simms will be the first of those. Then again he migh be brilliant. It is not easy. I only b needed one look at Bony 2, Asoro John and McKay to recognise they were not up to it. I am not an expert.

Hardly a myth....it happened and all that happened in the meantime was down to their decisions that clearly from your account was still mistake after mistake, from advisor to Mcauley mistakes were being made one after another by the powers who be.

A yank is a yank regardless if they are doing bad or not.....its decided to be tripe by the person unwilling to see or not able to accept outside their own vision or thought.

A low quality assessment based on prejudices.

""A yank is a yank regardless if they are doing bad or not"". They are not a "Yank" when they are on Netflix it seems.

The US owners have to trust somebody and they have let them down. Not before time they have a man in charge looking after his own investment.

US people pit a block on Potter and he left. He wanted Ryan Woods for £7m. Ryan Who? He bombed. Potter left.

They pulled a plug on Coopers who wanted a centre forward while Goykeres was twiddling his s thumbs. He wanted Kienan Davis who he has already got shot of? Keinan who? Cooper left.

Martin wanted more signing in January after bringing in Fisher and Sorinola on big money. Both bombed. Martin left . He does not want Fish at Southampton. No surprise there.

The recruitment was recruited by the yanks.
Mistakes being made time again and yet they seem to have been void of the blame with the same type of judges quick to put blame at Martin.....its been totally inconsistent with these types.

Lets hope these mistakes have finally hit hard and now is the time that they have put their hands up and are now going to be proactive and thorough moving forward.
Learning tough lessons that they created may I add.

The "Yanks" took "Limey" / "Taffy" perhaps with a bit of "Jock" and "Paddy" advice. Do you want them to ignore the locals and go all in "Yank" ?

Does the fact we have a new investor give us a little bit of room for cautious flexibility?

It would be nice to think that could happen but don’t hold your breath. We went the whole of last season without a recognised right back because the ownership felt that Cyrus Christie was too old. We still haven’t replaced Obafemi. I get the feeling that we are going to be pick-pocketed for Piroe late in the transfer window & be left without a recognised striker unless of course anyone thinks that Liam Cullen is the answer

There is rarely 5 teams including two Italian team interested in Swansea players. Clearly in this case letting Swansea sweat is not going to work. Atalanta have sold 4 forwards selling one more and need to get on with it.

For your interest Josh Thomas might be knocking on the door. He has scored as freely as McBurney did in the u21 at a lower level of PL2. He grafts and is fiesty and finding the net freely.

"the end of the Jenkins era".
Huw worked with the US owners for three years (2016-2019) so the owners have to take responsibility for the recruitment.

If you want to see how our club have operated at times - I urge you to watch Amazon's All or Nothing: Leeds United - the Dan James transfer fiasco. Thank goodness Huw had his phone turned off.

Scott was in charge of recruitment in Coopers time. They got on well and Scott joined him at Forest. I would imagine Scott found him Goykeres. Given that Arriola was at DC and Morris American too it could be that someone pointed them in Scott's direction.

Cooper wanted a centre forward and in particular Keinan Davis. Levein might have been disappointed Cooper did not develop the player Scott gave him (Goykeres). He is even more disappointed now. Cooper got Keinan eventually at Forest and sent him back as well. Some managers are never happy.

They were two highly capped USA internationals. USA went further than Wales in the WC with Morris in the team. Both were fit when the arrived but were unlucky. The were at least the equivalent of Joe Morrell or Joe Ledley in 2016.. They came over to get fit and make a contribution and probably were not expensive.

The are called "Yankkee crocks" just like that "Sais crock" Gibbs White. He came to get fit and lasted 4 games. Brewster came to get fit and game time and was outstanding.

Scott joined Cooper via Middlesborough (when Wilder was in charge)

Anyway, I think most of us were fairly certain that Piroe would leave this window. The reasons being he only has a year left in contract and our owners don't want to lose him for nothing, they want money to reinvest in the club (wherever it may go, wahes, fees, stadium upkeep etc) then obviously Piroe himself wants to be in the Premier league and he's had 2 decent seasons so now may his best time for a move.

Image if Piroe stayed but next season he was a complete flop or even got badly injured and missed most of the season. it may be (in those circumstances) that nobody in the EPL wanted to take a chance on him and he ended up staying here.

I think now is his optimum time, 23 years old off the back of two good seasons, it's better for him and us if we sell now. If he signs a 3 years deal in the EPL he's made for life.

The two players have been called American crocks or Yankee crocks numerous times on here by regulars who do not like having their myths contested.

They prefer not to have their prejudices debated and hide under a rock and throw pebbles while under a protective umbrella service provided by the owner.

This sort of cowardice saw the Trust embark on a ludicrous legal claim without objections. The convertible loan note was a hedge against legal action by the Trust. The loans would not have been converted without the climb down. Swim away losers.

So why would you risk your most precious / saleable asset in a friendly (or any other friendly) against the mighty Haverfordwest ? ?

Possibly because we are playing the long game with Piroe and he stays until we get the right fee. We have four league matches before the Window closes and he could be here for all four. We need him match sharp.

Seem to remember Sinclair making his Swansong v QPR before going to Man City ?
I am sure there are many other precedence?
He is our player until he goes, which could ( but unlikely to be) until next summer
