| Watson signings are they pending? 15:46 - Jul 27 with 7109 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Mr Duff has had a good look at his squad andsays not surprisngly the kids and not ready. Only Brandon Coper has significant professional game time. He cannot ue 6 rookies all at once. Having made this assessment and seen there are no Dan James's or Oliie Mcburnie's to step in Mr Watson has to go into action with his lower league wonders. Key was always in the plan and Ginelly is a Duff man. Yates was scouted by Watson no doubt. It looks as if he needs to find 4 or 5 unloved diamonds like he did at Luton. Lots of free agents out there. He just needs to find some with the right mentality and something to prove. | |

| Watson signings are they pending? on 21:10 - Jul 27 with 2350 views | KeithHaynes | It’s a careful balancing act, they want best value for minimal expenditure, and that’s how business works. The squad salary is down I’m certain, but the more you take away and the team continues to perform the less you will get. ( They haven’t yet I know ) Hence Duff’s early statement regards his options. Because there’s little in reserve for Duff to select from. I can’t imagine Coleman has any autonomy bar the financial pot he has been given. And that’s had to be agreed by Kaplan and Levien. He has been allowed only what he’s allowed to have, that’s the long and the short of it. Now what he does with that may well be his and Watson’s decision, so there’s little untruth for me in his statement when analysed. They are not going to sign say a new striker with Piroe still at the club. Even though they know he wants out. We will be left with a scramble if he goes late paying more than we would if we speculated now. But as supporters of Swansea City there has to be some time given for them to negotiate deals with what they’ve been allowed to have. And yes I do believe the purse strings are being tightened, but they want to run the show with aslittle going out as possible. Others may have a different opinion, but … | |

| Watson signings are they pending? on 20:58 - Jul 27 by magicdaps10 | A lot of chatter that the guys on the ground would be making the decisions when clearly the trusts minutes state that Watson is in regular discussion with Levien. The guys who done the chatting were clearly spinning it and/or telling porkies. It's quite clear unfortunately. |
The trusts minutes were dated 3rd and 11th July, at that time Coleman was back in the good old USA to complete final preparations for him and his family to move to Swansea, maybe, just maybe he had been given time off for those reasons, and any communication with Levien was because of those same reasons.

It seems they are trying to do it on the cheap hoping that one season they’ll be holding the golden ticket to the PL. Your point about off-loading Piroe first rather than speculating on a striker now does have a counterpoint. If we are left with two strikers, one being Piroe who we want / need to sell then maybe clubs will offer amounts accordingly. I’m not supporting the majority owners because although they are business minded, football clubs may not conform entirely to the standard business model.

Not defending or attacking the owners. But something needs to change we lost 12 million pounds last accounts and we can't carry on like that It does need to be a balancing act we need to function within our means. Yes we all want a team to be proud of but we also want one that is solvent. Been through administration and near closure before nobody wants that again.

100% agree, but how can we see where we are financially when the "significant investment" by the chairman can be seen nowhere. I'm all for living within our means, but we need to be able to judge what these are.
| Watson signings are they pending? on 22:29 - Jul 27 with 2140 views | QJumpingJack | Coleman has no experience in British or European football. It is going to take him weeks/months/years to build up good contacts. Agents will go directly to Marsh, Watson or Levien. When Winter and Birch came to the club they were well known by agents etc. If Leeds are going to bid for Piroe - who will they pick up the phone to speak to? | | | |

Coleman is in charge and Watson is his advisor. Watson has a much better grip on players current cash value than Coleman does. If the best offer Swansea get is £5m for Piroe what is Coleman going to do?

Coleman has no power whatsoever, he is only here because levein can't be bothered coming over to oversee. How much is it costing the club to pay and house coleman? What a fvcking joke. [Post edited 28 Jul 2023 17:07]

I really thought the powers that be had learnt their lesson and put in measures to streamline the buying and selling. So far after a decent early start it looks like normal service resumed.

Silverstein was one of three mates. There are now six or more important players and Silverstein does not know them so cannot speak for them either as he did before. Coleman should not be underestimated. 2x 2 does not make 6. Coleman was appointed to be able to act independently. That was the plan. Whether it works or not is to be determined.

Why can it be seen nowhere? As far as I'm aware, the significant quote was "We don't need to sell", which appears to be 100% accurate. All outstanding deficits are covered and we're not desperate to flog someone off to cover them as opposed to previous Summers. A lot of people seem to have seized on that quote and misunderstood it to mean "We can spend loads without selling anyone" which is something else entirely. As previously explained by myself and one or two others, our early activity in this window was fairly typical of previous ones, with the only real difference being that the major proportion of our investment was made in one player (Yates) rather than in two or three. Nothing else has changed. We will still need to sell if we're going to spend millions more plugging the gaps that Duff thinks exist. Nothing has changed. We're still a club trying to exist within its means. The same people nursing semis over the apparent but non existent change in ethos early in the window are the same people turning on them now. The club aren't doing anything different. It's only people's expectations that keep flip-flopping, and there's not much that they can do about that.

Dr we agree often and disagree often it's just the way our minds work. But the key part of your post is the first line IMO "Why can it be seen nowhere?", why is there no clarity on the investment. We need a keeper as we did in January and we need a left back as we have known since Manning ran his contract down. Yes there should be loans coming in to cover these positions, but there is no guarantee and it would have been nice to have them in by now to get some stability in the team. Then we move onto the 5 or 6 players needed. It is purely my opinion and not a fact, but I think Duff was told the same as Martin was in January, use what we have. Then after seeing the physical and mental attributes of most of the youngsters, deemed them not ready yet. I am all for living within our means, but you would think with the mystery "substantial investment" there would be a bit more room to manoeuvre.
| Watson signings are they pending? on 09:49 - Jul 29 with 827 views | Dr_Winston | Duff will have been told exactly what the situation is when he took over. He'll know that his budget largely depends on the sale of Piroe. He's made public comments about the work he did at Cheltenham on a tight budget, so it's not as if he's been promised millions and then denied them as plenty of people (not you) regularly keep claiming about managers. Ideally Piroe would have gone by now and we'd be further along. There's not much the club can do about that if the offers simply aren't there. It's not going to be a quick fix in any case though. We've had four years of any semblance of pace and width being stripped out of the team by Cooper and Martin. That's going to be hard to fix in one window on a limited budget. | |
