The Russians want Ukraine as a vassal state and they’re not going to stop there, their proxies the Wagner group are making huge inroads in Africa, Sudan, Libya, Mali, Central African Republic, Syria and Niger. They’ve also been seen in Sri Lanka and Venezuela.
The Russians are looking to expand their influence across the globe and are intent on taking over Ukraine which is a huge country and source of much of the worlds grain supplies. Ukraine is a democratic country and mustn’t be r set old town the river. To be honest I think they’ve done reasonably well given the lack of resources in terms of numbers and new technology they’ve had compared to Russia. Looking at it objectively, population wise Russia is about 4 times bigger, it’s got a much bigger armed forces with better weapons and more of them. Everyone expected Ukraine to capitulate quickly including the Russians, it’s only when the west have seen the Ukrainians can fight that they’ve started to get the more advanced weaponry - even today they’re waiting for F16s and better artillery. | | | |
