"The RCEM said it could not measure "how bad" things were because thousands of patients subject to so-called "breach exemptions" were not included in the overall A&E waiting times.

The Welsh government initially disputed the RCEM's claim, but after seeing detailed figures - which were obtained through freedom of information (FOI) requests to health boards - it changed its position."

A little bit of positivity amongst the gloom on this thread.

We rushed our Grandson into A&E Morriston a couple of weeks ago, he had a burst Abscess in his mouth, and was spewing up a horrible green fluid. It came on him so quickly it was frightening.
A&E was heaving, it was a Saturday evening. He was seen immediately by a doctor and within a short period of time was down in theatre having five first teeth removed and the abscess completely drained. Kept in overnight on a drip, a course of antibiotics and is now right as rain.
Very impressed by the prompt action of the A&E staff which probably averted a much more serious condition.
Another positive note regarding prostate cancer sufferers in Wales who have now been gained access to a drug on the NHS which could have a significant benefit regarding their life expectancy.

Glad he is well, grandkids are the most precious thing in my humble opinion.

Back to the NHS, why do Welsh Labour do the right thing & decrease the money being given to TFW which has seen a decrease in customers?

Overall the NHS needs a complete overhaul (& not just in Wales) otherwise we will continue to keep pouring money into something that has so much waste its unbelievable.

I have been on the waiting list for over 2 years for prostate surgery.
Had a telephone pre-op assessment back in April followed by a further pre- op a few weeks later at Morriston Hospital.
All the usual tests done ECG, MRSA, Covid etc.
6 months later I'm still waiting for the operation!!
What a complete waste of time and resources.
I can only think it was done to massage and manipulate the figures.
I'm not complaining as sadly there are many others so much worse off than me.
So many people I speak to these days have a NHS horror story to tell.
Drakeford needs to get up to Morriston Hospital and see at first hand the carnage.
No worse time in my lifetime to be taken ill.

I’m down at Glangwili A&E with a family member, it’s carnage here. Hopefully we’ll be triaged in to the Minor Injuries Unit which is much more civilised. One plus point, there were 4 ambulance crews here when we arrived but it’s now down to 1 which hopefully means anyone out there who needs help will get it.

There was an article in one of the nationals about NHS England not counting a large number of people on the waiting lists who were still waiting for treatment. There was a suggestion the stats were being manipulated - it looks like we’re being gaslighted every which way.

We were seen in the MIU very quickly and we are now home. I’m well impressed to be honest, everything that they could do tonight was sorted in an hour and half and the on going issues will be picked up over the next few days and follow ups arranged.

I’m hoping the follow ups will be as efficient as tonight, but I’m won’t hold my breath.

I'm sure most of us agree that we have nothing but respect and gratitude for the work being done at grass roots level in our local casualty departments.

Now the Senedd are asking the Health Boards to make £64M in savings. So is this a cut in the budget or not?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-

£64 million in savings? Aye after wasting £114 million on ‘relief-road’ pathfinder consultation/bureaucracy…..After wasting another (described as Welsh Government account mismanagement ) £155 million that had to be sent back to Westminster, because nobody knew what to spend it on…..And being prepared to dish out £120 million over 8 years to have 36 extra A.M’s….Add to that the £30 million for 20mph….Add to that the other wastage. Now this!

Like I’ve said previoulsy i.e. a bunch of yokels well below village committee standard, not fit to last a single day in the private sector and on a mission to sabotage Wales NHS whilst economically destroying it by all means possible. What is happening, what we are all seeing is absolutely staggering.

Its beyond parody now ,

Senedd draws up plans to buy back its main office building from investors in a tax haven
The building is owned by Kuwaiti investors whose company is registered in the British Virgin Islands and paid £40m for it
The group are understood to have met in a communal area of the Ty Hywel building
Plans are being drawn up for the body that runs Wales' Parliament to buy the major building which houses its offices and many of its meeting rooms and is linked to the Senedd debating chamber.

The Senedd Commission currently pays well over £2m a year to rent the red brick and glass Ty Hywel building, formerly known as Crickhowell House. It houses offices for Senedd Members as well as meeting rooms, and facilities for journalists and Senedd and Welsh Government staff. It is linked to the purpose-built Senedd building by glass walkways.
The building was constructed in 1993 and was named after Lord Crickhowell, Nicholas Edwards, who led the regeneration of Cardiff Bay as Welsh Secretary. It was used as the first debating chamber for the National Assembly before the Senedd was built and was renamed Ty Hywel, after King Hywel Dda, in 2008. It is currently owned by a family of private investors from Kuwait who bought it in a £40.5m deal in 2014. The firm that holds the investment, Broader Company Limited, is registered in the British Virgin Islands, a tax haven.
The Senedd Commission previously looked at buying the building in 2009 and 2013 but said that the funds were not available to enable the purchase to go ahead. Officials are now looking it seriously again as Ty Hywel needs significant investment to replace end-of-life items such as boilers, doors and windows which the Senedd is responsible for under the terms of the lease.
The cost of replacing the windows – which are more than 30 years old and in poor condition, with replacement parts unavailable – was estimated at £6m in 2020.

Officials are also drawing up plans to provide offices and accommodation for the additional Senedd Members and their staff who will be created as part of plans to increase the size of the institution to 96 members and are looking at buying Ty Hywel as part of a wider reorganisation of its estate.

Anyone with a modicum of awareness, critical thinking ability and common sense will realise that there is something extremely sinister happening here.

The thought of the current state of Wales is disturbing enough, but another ten years of this sabotage is damn scary!!!!

The Welsh Government does the total opposite of what is required priority and what is not (superfluous comes way before urgent necessity!) e.g. reopen that disused cancer centre with the most modern equipment available that's in-situ inside it?......Nah keep it shut!......And buy that office block next-door to the Senedd instead. It's truly shocking and absolutely sickening!

I'm assuming you are talking about the Rutherford cancer unit, the one with the most up to date proton scanners... it's absolutely f*cking scandalous that it's laying idle when the senedd think money is best spent on 20mph speed limits and giving everyone a tree to plant.

If saving lives is their priority, think how many lives could be saved with early and more clearly cancer diagnosis using the idle Rutherford centre scanners.

Absolute bunch of w*nkers running Wales.

Buying the building instead of renting makes sense, but there’s a time and a place for everything and now is not the time to purchase the building and now is most certainly not the time to increase the number of AM’s in the Senedd. In places like London commercial property is decreasing in value, so even if we could afford it (and I believe we can’t as there are more pressing priorities) we should hold off.

In terms of the cancer centre in Newport, I’m defo in favour of using it. I’ve seen an argument that the new cancer centre in Velindre will have similar kit and capacity to deliver what Wales needs and if that’s the case and it’s cheaper great - but if it isn’t true then every effort should be made to secure the place in Newport.

Some heads need knocking together and a lot of these politicians need to be booted out of office.

When we’re cutting funding to essential funding and increasing the gravy train it’s morally wrong.

Yep, you're right! That lot in Cardiff Bay are absolute vermin dragging Wales deeper into the abyss. Their reverse-rationality/common sense is truly staggering.... A case of what is urgent and desperately required goes to the very bottom of the list, whilst what is superficiail, nonessential, nonsensical and absolute bullsh*t jumps from bottom position and goes right to the very top.

It's an absolute obscenity, so utterly appalling that it’s hard to fathom out what planet these ruinous bottom-feeding Cardiff Bay yokels actually live on.

Because they well and truly think completely different to anyone who can count to ten, or realises the fact that the best place to pour water into a bucket is that big hole thingy at the top.

Gwyn a serious question without any dig at the Senedd by me but do you think health should be devolved. Personally I think the NHS should be national and be totally overhauled from top to bottom. Regional politics should be kept out of it but that's impossible when comparisons are available.

There are so many persons in horrendous physical and mental states awaiting surgery.

Imwaited 5 years and 3 months for a hip replacement. From march 2016 til June 2021. Come the 5 year 1 month mark I ended up ringing up to complain, they told me it was decided by medical need, I was on crutches, had to give up my job and wasn't sleeping, in pain all day every day. I knew people not as bad as me who went on the list after me but gone sorted before so I lost my cool and threatened legal action, said I'd go to the media and to the Ferret. Lo and behold 2 weeks later I had an appointment and was sorted out.

The point being, if you stay quiet and be patient I believe they will leave you hanging. Start making noise, start getting on their nerves, mention lawyers and I honestly think you'll be seen sooner.

I could be wrong but I believe during Covid waiting lists were reset , a few relatives of mine phoned up the appointment service requesting a update on how long they had to wait for various appointments only to be told they either weren't on the list and had to restart the process again

How on earth is that whataboutary? The thread is about fiddling of NHS numbers!

At no point have I ever said the Welsh NHS is performing well, I’ve just pointed out that from a statistical point of view it’s very difficult to compare.

When you’ve people arguing about a 3 year wait in England compared to a 4 year wait in Wales it ignores the bigger picture.

100%.

Only thing is it would take a government with a massive majority to be brave enough to take it on as many still see it as a national treasure.
