It lives and grows by creating good players either from the academy or importing players young like McBurnie, James and now Wood. Swansea strength in the past has is player development shrewd managers and shrewd signings.
Filling the team with five loans kills development and has a kick on effect of n finances as there is no ne to sell. | |

I think Res is on a good salary from the club with some of the stuff he spouts in support if the owners (and other things).
However, I think he has a point with loanees. I cant help thinking that some of them are only thinking of their own development rather than that of the team. And to be fair to him (well it is Christmas😂) he knows the U21 set up better than most but whether the players he mentions are good enough, I don’t know. Especially as we are in a survival period atm. |  |

Only possible argument you can make is Whittaker, who was 19 or 20 when he came here and cost nearly a million.
If we had 4 or 5 ex under 21s proving us wrong by playing in the PL or for bigger championship clubs, he’d have a point.
That’s without even considering that we probably wouldn’t have gone up without Borini in 2011, wouldn’t have got anywhere near the playoffs without Coopers loans and would quite likely be in the bottom three now with Fisher in goal. | | | |

When a club continually sells its best players & only spends a fraction of the money taken in for replacement players it is highly probable that you are going to end by up with a weaker squad year on year. This is what we see at the moment.
I would certainly expect that due consideration is given to up and coming academy players when considering loan player choices. Loan players have to be taken in to add quality in areas where the club has squad weaknesses identified by the coaches (in theory). Our club has a poor record of loaning out academy players for development. Expecting such players to step up from academy football to the Championship is a big ask & few clubs are able to achieve this successfully
Most clubs that are promoted from the Championship bolster their squad with loanees. Its all about getting the right players in the right positions |  | | |

One example we let go, 8 years ago as a 16 year old when we were pretty much at our peak in the PL. Standards were a lot higher. If he was here as a 16 year old now, you’d like to think we’d be looking to integrate him into the team within a couple of years.
Ryan Hedges was here around the same time and has spent a few years kicking about in the lower leagues then Scotland, but fair enough, Blackburn are a similar stature to us.
There would be justifiable uproar if we brought Dai Cornell back. He’s also spent every season since leaving us playing at a lower level, usually as a backup. I think he’s played a handful of games for Preston in a year and a half.
If these are the best examples of players loanees are keeping out of the team, they aren’t a massive problem. | | | |

Can't score if you don't shoot, and we have regularly given the opportunities to other clubs' players. Cabango was lucky that Wilmot got injured and then Guehi was shambolic when he arrived. Bang average Luke Cundle given plenty of minutes over (bang average) Ollie Cooper last season, helping Wolves rather than ourselves. Azeem Abdulai looking at loan players acquired for the bench in both his main and backup positions, little hope even without the injury. | | | |

Hedges had no chance getting anywhere near the team when he was with us.

There is a question of the bang average players at this level is that they end up having to do a lot of the donkey work to let the better players shine at this level. No point if we have a team of of people who can win games for you if they are not given time, space and the ball in positions that can hurt the oppositions. In certain areas of the team that youthfulness in the middle was and is a godsend and it caused a problem last year because Martin mid term didn't stick with youth because he changed things against Burnley in the first game (not helped by Mannings injury) and didn't revert back to a similar until the end of the season and Duff did similar for the Leicester game and never went back.
Patino looks as if he is going back so Sheehan has rightly used Liam Walsh who has not disgraced himself.
If Key is injured will Abdulai, f fit, slot into the Key position and slot in on the right in front of Darling? | | | |
