There is a lot of revenue at stake for the city as a whole when you concider the visiting teams and their supporters who stay for the weekend. Plus the international profile the City of Swansea gets and knock on benifits. | | | |

It is curious timing.
For all their success on the pitch though the city has never really embraced the Ospreys. You could drive past the stadium on almost any match day and you'd barely notice that there was a game on, so even if they were still there they'd have been a candidate for the chop.
Llanelli pull in the biggest crowds and have a stadium. Cardiff is never going to be without a team. I believe that Rodney Parade is also WRU owned so they're going to want a team there).

Well of course - the other three are town or city clubs who steadfastly refused to embrace regional rugby. Neath and Swansea sacrificed themselves to make the concept work and look at their reward.

There is no logic for getting rid of the Ospreys when they have a catchment area of over 300,000 people compared to the Scarlets which isn't even a third of this even when you include most of West Wales population into the mix.
Support has been a problem ever since the Ospreys formed with attendances varying from as little as 2,800 up to around 5-6,000 on average - this equates to less than 2% of the population which is incredibly poor when you consider the attendances the Swans get.
Whatever way the wind blows on this the people of Swansea have to get behind rugby in general or rugby will never grow in the city, certainly not enough to push for a move into the English pyramid as plan B. Give free tickets to schools, colleges, universities etc to create a buzz around the club, employ a marketing guru that can build excitement around the brand, drop ticket prices, offer more incentives....do whatever it takes to get people watching or we will continue to witness the slow painful death of what should be the jewel in the crown of Welsh rugby. the grassroots game is critical to this so positive links have to be formed with all local clubs to keep interest high.
Sadly broadcasting money is currently keeping the game afloat and now controls the game, it now looks like the English prem is starting to move towards a franchise model which IMO would be a disaster and another step to losing genuine rugby fans as TV audiences are more important than fans.
I would much rather watch Swansea v Pontypridd in a Welsh league if thats where this ends rather than the 'Vodafone WRU Cardiff Blue Jays' vs the 'Admiral Insurance Newport 1839 Uprisers' in the URC.
The WRU are a complete shambles, I hope the council, Ospreys management and the people of swansea and Neath can come together to keep the game alive in both areas. | |

Zilch.... they cannot even send somebody for a kids presentation night. we have had zero help. You could try contacting these and forming strong ties. The regional pathway is excellent for development throughout all regions and is doing a first class job, but in fairness you notice it more from the age of 14 upwards.
