Really does defy all logic how some players become hate figures for the simple of thought through no fault of their own.

As I said a couple of months ago when some were saying to offload, do not be surprised if he signs a new contract.

He'll have to take a pay cut but yeah, he's got another year or two in him. Especially if he's sparingly used.

Doesn’t go out slurping vodka all summer, nobody really knows much about him, never been a favourite of mine, but total respect for him. I’m thinking he will get a contract at the end of this season. Not dissimilar to Joe’s and Kyle Naughton. Low money, can be relied upon. A very professional trainer, timely and a figure who will have great influence on younger players. Dependent on his communication skills he could be valuable.

He however represents the decline of Swansea way. He does not have the fast feet required for the type of football Swansea fans had 12 years ago. I feel sure Michael Laudrup or Martinez would have moved him on very quickly. He will help keep Swansea in the Championship if that is the target. On over £500k a year he will be moved on. A great servant to the club having said all that .I respect him.

There's certainly a place for him in that "senior pro" role that Naughton used to fill. Can slot in to start and won't let us down when needed, won't kick up a fuss if on the bench.

Key has always been good carrying the ball forward and playing one twos. He seemed to lose confidence after the Southampton player ran riot at our defensive in the 0 0. We all want the swans players to come good and hopefully that will be the case.

Martin tried to "run him out of town" and kept him in his doghouse for about 3 months. Then Martin welcomes him back and starts him alongside of Grimes where they forged their infamous ticky-tack passing partnership, probably at the behest of Martin.

Downes had to do a lot of covering for Grimes by the end of his time here, he would win the ball after backtracking because we know Grimes wasn't fast enough to do the covering work against quick players but then Grimes would come alongside him and take the ball off him a yard away, he did the same to Cabango coming all the way back only to pass it two yards back to Cabango while we were in need of forward play in dying seconds of games we were losing. We know Grimes is a good player but he has his weaknesses the problem was always about finding the right midfield players around him. Didn't someone mention in previous threads that Fulton was a more forward thinking midfielder at the start of his career, maybe not a out and out ball player but has an instinctive eye for a goal, providing he doesn't have to do more than react to the situation, we haven't seen him in further forward positions for quite some time. Delighted for Jay and his goal today. Well done. And I remember a few near post headers that he tucked away in his early days. However who are you going to drop to make him a starter? At the moment if Stamenic is tiring he is the ideal replacement. And if he is offered a new contract then it has to be at the right price.

Some have been suggesting dropping Franco, don't think it is a case of dropping players more about picking the right team for the team we are playing against, where we are playing home or away and how teams are going to play against us to contain and eventually try and out do us. The substitutions have become a bigger part of the game given the numbers involved, they have always been one of the pivotal moments in games as managers try to exploit weaknesses. Against WBA it was very nip and tuck between the two teams not a lot of chances initially but WBA started to get on top as the changes made by them took effect, Matos made his changes which initially didn't seem to stem the tide of pressure and Fulton seemed to drop into a deeper position, old habit? Then again Ronald got the challenge in, high up the pitch and Fulton was in position to take advantage of their mistake and our hard work. We then regrouped to make ourselves solid in defence maintained outlets up top, job done, which some managers have been unable to achieve. Will opposition managers be able to work Matos's team selection and style of play out I'm sure they will get the upperhand but hopefully not too often. The injury problems may cause us problems but maybe the percieved strength in depth we thought we had at the start of the season may just give us the edge but having experienced players like Fulton helps to bring young players on and has helped after the loss of other experienced players. A word of praise for the like of Vipotnik, and Tymon elements of their games have improved under Matos and to be fair they did under Sheehan(and not only Sheehan other mangers before him)but the way they were being asked to play didn't, the same could be said of Fulton, Key and Ronald any confidence that they had seemed to have evaporated but they are showing small signs of recovery and hopefully our own youngersters can step up to take their chances when those chances are given. When a new manager comes in, every player starts with a clean sheet of paper, because he probably knows very little about any of them. Fulton in his early days used to score some goals, and has always had a good shot in him, but over the years has developed into a defensive midfielder. The Grimes, Fulton era probably did him no favours in the eyes of some fans, but he did his job professionally, with no frills, just like it says on the tin. So it will now be interesting to see what role Matos sees him play in.
| Fulton on 09:59 - Jan 3 with 107 views | GVJack | He's a very solid championship player,.and has served our club well. I think fans opinions started to turn because he kept the bench warm despite being one of our highest earners which is no fault of him. His playing relationship with Grimes under Martin/Williams did him no favours but I'm sure he was playing as Instructed as was Grimes so again not necessarily their fault directly. I hear he's a model professional and a role model for the younger players. I'm not sure if he has many suitors who are looking to bring him in in June but I'm sure he'll be looking to play more football under his next Contract than he has the last 3 years or so. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him remain as he's a useful experienced player but I just can't see it. | | | |

Your first paragraph is something that is very often overlooked by people. It’s not always a case of playing the same team but a side to combat the strengths of the opposition without losing any of our own authority on a game. One size fits all does not apply ordinarily in football.
