| Congreve continuing to make an impression up North 23:28 - Feb 14 with 1992 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Hopefully the guy in Scotland can cut the mustard as they transition from u21 to the Senior game. Playing every week is a good sign. Lissah he as got a lot of praise and good reports ars coming back from Congreve. I have seen him with a very tidy set piece u in the u21. BBC reported this today after another assist. He is in the same team as Dhanda but younger. "On the plus side for the Dark Blues was Congreve's performance as he posed a constant threat on the right. And the manager will be able to put together an encouraging highlights reel to lift his team after they let slip a winning position in their bid to climb free of relegation worries.' Getting special mention is what I like to see It was 2-2. He has just turned 22 with 76 games under his belt after a decent season at Bromley last season. . [Post edited 14 Feb 23:37]

| Congreve continuing to make an impression up North on 12:45 - Feb 15 with 1292 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I strongly believe in a strong local spine. I have memories of the Toshack era. Robbie James, Curtis Jeremy Charles Chris Marustic and Stevenson. Curtis had extra of ordinary skills. Robbie was about strength power and a good shot. These guys were not world beaters but has a strong local pride and were winners. They is had the mental strength not to accept defeat. The Scottish four can make a contribution and let the like if Ronald and Eom know they gave to fight for their places not against loans but local lad s who are as keen as mustard. They are not in shop window. Fisher and Fulton on half wages is a vote for regression in my opinion. [Post edited 16 Feb 11:57]

Do you want to read through that again and correct the typos. That way you may get a response. Or maybe not, who knows?

Why has this been downarrowef FFS what is going on here Res is correct The principle of a spine of a team is the same now as it ever was That some can’t see it is staggering Every sport has key positions We are where we are as we have jacked such Keeper , strong defence , Midfield boss , striker who scores

For any team not only ours to have a spine of local players is virtually impossible these days. It may well be possible in the lower leagues but any ambitious Championship or Premier League team need to look further afield. British players carry a premium and are often sold and replaced by cheaper quite possibly better players from abroad.

Did you miss the word " local" ? the higher up the leagues Clubs go then the chances of the spine of any team being made up of local lads is extremely remote. We managed it but please consider that was because the team when we reached Division one, was one which had its roots in Div 4 .

The game is ruined if there is legislation introduced as to how many Welsh players are retained. This is CLUB football not international. Maybe I’m barking up the wrong tree but it sounds like something ridiculous to me dreamt up by the FAW. Am I right?

Further to this I have seen this article regarding Ipswich and explains the rules and is current dated 7th January 2026. https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/2 The Homegrown Requirement as I believe is at least 8 of the 25 players must be "Homegrown," meaning they were registered with any club in England or Wales for at least three seasons (or 36 months) before their 21st birthday. Swansea City updated squad February 25/26 updated February 4th 2026. Contracted Players over the age of 21 Andrew Fisher, Josh Key, Jay Fulton, Ben Cabango, Marko Stamenic, Melker Widell, Zan Vipotnik, Jisung Eom, Josh Tymon, Cameron Burgess, Goncalo Franco, Liam Cullen, Leo Walta, Lawrence Vigouroux, Joel Ward, Zeidane Inoussa, Paul Farman, Ethan Galbraith, Adam Idah, Ronald. Under-21 Players registered with the club on a temporary loan transfer Malick Yalcouye, Ishe Samuels-Smith, Gustavo Nunes. https://www.swanseacity.com/cl There is no mention of Ollie Cooper there who is 26. I won't add to the discussion we had on his return from loan and the complexities involved, but after the 25 man squad announcement he was an unused squad member against Sheffield Wednesday on February 8th, he was not in the squad against Derby. Have the club messed up here or is Cooper deemed not good enough and in no mans land.

I believe a team with 5-6 South West Wales players supported with 5-6 imported stars could win the Premier league. It is possible but extremely unlikely. I would follow Man City if i wanted reality over dream land. All teams have stars and water carriers. Artisans. I would like the "artisan " to be locally raised and developed in the academy. Leicester city lived the dream with a number of solid pros Matt James, Dan Drinkwater, Andy King, Marc Albrighton, Wes Morgan, Ben Hamer, Ben Chilwell and Demari Gray [Post edited 16 Feb 12:12]

| Congreve continuing to make an impression up North on 13:52 - Feb 16 with 692 views | RichardO | The youngsters needed game time at a level at which they can push on, nice to see our young players on loan getting good game time, showing they can compete at the senior level with the teams they are with at the moment, are they improving enough to enable them to get good game time at the higher Championship level remains to be seen, as we have seen this season our spine is not as strong as we would like it to be, needing to rely on Fulton to add an amount of Championship experience that many of our newer players lack, needing to improve certain elements of their game. Parker is now not getting game time in a problem position. we have opted for experience, this season to bring on the likes of Galbraith, Widell and Stamenic, who all look capable but have shown that lack of experience. Yes they are looking like good players but they need game time to get that midfield right, we have seen different midfield combinations but it is only certain ones that make us look threatening up front while keeping us defensively solid, hope Matos can find the right line ups and not flounder as Sheehan did being unable to do so. | | | |

The point I am making was these were not superstars. Neither were Marc Abrighton, Matty James, Wes Morgan Andy King and Dan Drinkwater. A set of water carriers that understand their roles and physically resolute can do a good job. You of course need the value added players which Swansea have a habit of selling. The Scotland four are 21 or just have turned 22. I see no reason to write them off. They are all v well versed in the Swnsea style and adding muscle onto the bone,

You have moved on from the strong local spine then and the use of local players, considering the Leicester examples. [Post edited 16 Feb 15:54]

| Congreve continuing to make an impression up North on 15:55 - Feb 16 with 604 views | glanmORJa_k | Apart from the last two seasons we have been totally guilty in failing to send players out on loan but once the para payments stopped (Summer 2021) cash was at a premium, redundancies throughout the staff meant that the academy struggled to function fully. With Gorringe saying recently that next season we will be applying for Cat 1 and the following season entry in 2027/8, one does wonder as to how long aspiring young professionals at the academy will be contesting Cat 1 matches or loaned out. Matos by now should have had the opportunity to assess the likes of Sam Parker(19) and others, and it appears that the youngster at the moment will not be added to the first team squad unless a number of injuries occur. Thomas Woodward(19) travelled with the Swans squad to last weekend’s match at Derby. As successful as the likes of Lissah,(21) Congreve(22), Wilson(21), Cotterill(21) have been on loan this and last season what needs to bear in mind is how much the Scottish Premier League is inferior to the Championships. Bearing that in mind I would imagine only Lissah and Wilson to have a serious chance of getting into next season’s first team squad. Of the lads that are on loan in Ireland – Watts(21, 22 in September), Josh Thomas(23, 24 in September), Arthur Parker(19), other loans – Seb Dabrowski(20, 21 in September), Connah’s Quay Jacob Cook(19) and Kit Margetson(19), Briton Ferry Jack Fanning(19), Newport Ben Lloyd(19), Aimar Govea (19), Dan Watts(20), Florian Bianchini(24, 25 in June) I would imagine Evan Watts and Arthur Parker will be the only loanees to be included in the first team pre-season training squad. | | | |

We don’t need to weaken the team just to accommodate local players. Yes you need water carriers, but that doesn’t mean you don’t get the best water carriers available. We all love a local player and if they are good enough they will play. If they aren’t, they shouldn’t get in the side on the strength of their birth certificate.
