| Swansea City v Coventry City : Match day thread on 11:15 - Mar 22 by Dr_Winston | Burgess' biggest problem is that he's basically playing alongside a twin. He and Cabango have the same strengths and weaknesses, and playing the two of them together is amplifying the latter. We've seen Cabango play better than this. Burgess obviously has or he wouldn't have come to us with the reputation that he did. Paired with someone like Harry Darling I suspect both of them would be having a better season. |
Plus with Harry Darling, we'd have had a few more goals in the goals for column

To many players of a similar style makes it difficult to change things during a game, no genuine cover up front when Idah got injured is just insane. Playing Galbraith at right back is a waste. We have a stronger squad in some areas but not others, we lacked decent cover at RB, central defence and up front.

Short term cover at fullback should come from the U21's a bit like when Ben Davies stepped in for Neil Taylor. Maybe it's a big ask in the Championship but that would be the ideal scenario.

Carter Heywood and Harlan Perry are the u21 full backs. Iestyn Jones is another young defender. All local young fellows. They looked very solid when I watched them recently. Seb Dabrowsky is further down the line and went to non league on loan but does nur seem to have progressed.

| Swansea City v Coventry City : Match day thread on 09:04 - Mar 23 with 1434 views | RichardO | You cannot give players of quality time on the ball..You have to get tight in all areas of the park trying to make these last ditch challenges in the box means we haven't done our job else where on the pitch. Teams attack or defend as required, good teams don't over expose themselves defensively when they try to attack. When Matos first came here our tactics in the high press caught a number of teams out and to be fair we caught Coventry out once but didn't convert the chance but our pressing of players on the ball and off has been poor giving opposition players time and space all over the park to finally allow better teams to work the ball up the park into dangerous areas of the pitch. If we are going to do a high press then everyone has to be doing it meaning the ball over the top is the last resort for teams given the height of our defenders they should be dealing with that. If you allow players time on the ball or space to run into then we get punished by better players, the gaps appear as some players press high and others drop deep either you all drop into a good defensive shape but not too deep or you all press on. We have seen at times that we have been far to eager to go hunting that lead very early against better teams you have to have a bit more patience, the game lasts 90 minutes we have been trying to win games in the first 20. | | | |

Opposing teams always seem to have more time and space on the ball against us ,Rich , especially in the second half of games ,probably down to tiredness meaning our high press isn’t as intense, but it’s a real problem ,our players seem to be marked tighter and never given time on the ball ,as I said in another post against Coventry it seemed like they had more players on the pitch than us A real concern We also regressed as an attacking side as the game went on ,rarely getting forward enough

By using the goalie they have more outfield players if one of ours goes and chase down the goalie, if done properly you can restrict the speed of the switch of play or getting caught short through the middle. Against better teams caution in the press is needed, it is what teams do against us slowing our game down

We have left ourselves open at the back in our percieve need to get forward at every opportunity we end up rushing things missing chances, take wrong options and become defensively open. Martin was undone by certain tactics so was Williams even Cooper in the Premiership. Change of tempo is needed, which comes along with experience. Widell is looking better at each game, Eom needed to learn that a simple ball against a closing forward to win a goal kick is better than a blind pass, defensive experience. Good coaches will make players better.

So have we regressed A good coach would straining address issues so that correct procedures become natural on games EOM s horrific action must have had Matos in despair Ergo, EOM should take no further part in our starting line up from now on

Yes simply can't help himself. A rancid soul.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

As it hasn’t taken you long to point it out I’ve not turned against him merely reassessed my view Now , looking at your views posted, both mine and yours seem aligned Funny isn’t it What I post is often prescient If I believe a coach is not addressing issues and finding solutions then I will say so , whether you like it or not Right now we have gone backwards Literally and you know that , you’ve posted as much Many see it like me Let’s keep it tidy please A tip , sport is dynamic and changes so what appeared or eas good often deteriorates or evaporates Nothing wrong with this It’s like relations which turn sour and we’ve all had them When love turns bad , eh [Post edited 23 Mar 12:59]

Two steps forward one step backwards, we created good chances but still losing against the better teams, we were expected to lose against Coventry because of our form indicates that but has our form improved, dipped or has it peaked or suffered with the lack of depth in the squad, time to cement our position then look to our youth prospects, be interesting to see if we could bring loan players back early if loan clubs not adversely effected by it. I like Matos and think he’s a very good manager in the making. I also believe the players respect him which is all important. Where I have a niggle with him is his desire to play the ‘Swansea way’ which as has pointed out on here just today is becoming a little bit passé. I think he got this job with telling the recruitment team what they wanted to hear and maybe their intransigent attitude to our style of play is holding us back. I’m sure Matos could get us playing a more developed style incorporating some of the old with the new.

Exactly,we seem glued to the possession for possession sake myth We can sill play good football if we are more expansive and forward oriented Teams are more than happy for us to have the ball as long as we like, because as has been said we don’t always do anything with it ,Saturday we were 0-3 down with 15 mins left and seemed quite happy to pass sideways and back in our own half , some of our players looked reluctant to turn forward when passed to and just hit it back where it came from It seems every team we play against plays on the front foot and fast and we just play slow ,boring , ambitionless keep ball for no good reason Very frustrating to watch, because when we do play forwards at pace we look a good team,so mix it up a bit ,go long with goal kicks now and again, just play long balls wide or diw the middle once in a while ,don’t be so predictable and keep the opposition guessing ,it can’t harm ,surely

i can recall several games, when a goal down in the 92nd minute,Cbango has the ball at his feet, looks up and knocks the ball sideways on the half way line this is negative in the true sense of the words and absolute insanity we still do this we shouldnt

And yet in a similar case or the same one where the two yard pass was to Grimes who promptly gave the ball back to Cabango, yes 92 minutes of a game when points were at stake, often the case of a player coming back to provide a option is to allow the forward facing player the time to pick out a forward ball or allow him to receive the ball while he is moving forward to catch the closing down opposition play flat or wrong footed. We have seen glimpses of it but often the receiving player passing to make the forward facing player move into the position to create an advantage. This was exactly what Peart-Harris did for Grime which forced Grimes to come forward which he was not inclined to do but the quality of the pass into space meant Grimes could get to the ball before the opposition player could turn. Sometimes we need to be playing balls into space and sometimes into feet but not be predictable. [Post edited 23 Mar 23:43]
