| Question Time tonight on 18:06 - Jun 7 by shingle | Lol is Starmer fit to be prime was Mandleson fit to be the USA ambassador, Kendell may not be the brightest fish in the pond but I would rather have him a local lad than a bunch of sleazy gits who have no interest in the people of Makerfield except for using them as a springboard for Burnham to have a go at the leadership. |
Is Starmer fit to be PM? No, he's too weak. Is Farage? No he's corrupt amongst myriad of other things. Is Badenoch? Probably not. Is Burnham? I very much doubt it but we're about to find out. We need to set the bar for an MP a bit higher than someone being a "local lad". What worries me is that Reform had a genuine opportunity to massively upset the political apple cart in Makersfield. If they fielded a decent candidate it would be very close, but the best they can come up with is Robert Kenyon? It does not bode well for 2029 general election.

Why not Badenoch? She is growing on me every time I see her. She destroys Starmer I’m PMQs every week. Look out for Rupert Lowe. He has far more gravitas than Farage and a clear manifesto to boot. Whether they’ll be strong enough by 2029 I don’t know but they are growing.

She does seem to be growing into the job. But destroying Starmer every week ? I can't ever remember seeing her do that. I don't watch it every week though. Too boring

She / the Tories have barely made any ground on Labour. Ruper Lowe is an idiot, and Restore's manifesto is undeliverable.

Clearly your opinions differ. She’s got a lot to do admittedly to bring the Conservatives back to the force they were but I think she can / will do it.

| Question Time tonight on 12:49 - Jun 8 with 1394 views | Dr_Winston | She's in the same boat that Hague was in 1997. A very capable political operator in charge of a party that the electorate no longer trusts. They're Conservative in name only and have been for years. Shame as she'd make a good PM in my opinion, but she's going to have her hands full just maintaining what they've got at the next election never mind increasing vote share. | |

She needs to jump ship to Reform, with her as there leader they would most probably easily win the next Election of course she is not going to to that but it's a nice thought.

I don't get this clamour for Reform, Farage isn't a likeable character at all and his-their policies are unaffordable, I honestly haven't got a clue on who I'd choose to vote for if there was GE anytime soon. I voted Tory in Wales back in May, because Darren Millar talked a lot of sense leading up to the Election and won me over, they crashed and burned, but I was happy voting for them, I wouldn't vote Tory in a GE though, not after those 14yrs.

Only room in that party for Nige, as Rupert Lowe found out. They're collecting failed ex-Tories like Pokemon. All of them happy to stay with the gravy train and not rock the boat by upsetting Farage. I wouldn't bet against them imploding a bit before the next election. They're desperately smearing Restore in Makerfield at the moment. Restore's fanatical consistency is still consistency, which Reform don't have.

Well we can speculate on how good or bad Reform could be but what we know for certain is that the Tories and more so now this truly inept Labour Government who are taking the UK on such a downward spiral which is going to be extremely difficult to recover from

I was going to type that. Badenoch is improving but the party has lost a huge chunk of its voters and even those are split with Restore taking reform voters as slowly the people are realizing that Farage is just a chancer

I’ve just watched her again just now and she puts him into very difficult positions where his stock answer is ‘what did the Tories do when in power’. A fair question but used far too often. And don’t forget John, Starmer was admonished for not answering the=e questions put to him quite recently because he knew he couldn’t. Her delivery is good, I like her and maybe at a better time for the Tories she would be in pole for the keys of no.10.

You are right , she is a very capable operator at the dispatch box. She asks very relevant concise questions .... and the riposte is always What did your party do when they were in power ? Starmer needs to realise that he is there to answer questions not avoid them , that's the whole point of PMQ's . Every week she exposes him for what he really is ..... a complete dud who rambles on and leaves us none the wiser as to what his real beliefs are.

I would say that, while she is direct and appears confident, she also is ill prepared and lacks substance and prefers chaos over combat

Ill prepared is possibly the last thing I'd call her. She consistently leaves Starmer very little option other than to go down his usual evasion route and "14 years" stuff because she's got her angles covered. She struggled originally, but she skewers him week in, week out now. Admittedly she's not up against the best opposition mind. For a former Barrister Starmer is utterly hopeless under pressure. Maybe that's why he went down the relatively easy CPS management route instead of stayed in court where the top dogs work.

A fair point about the 'what did your party do when they were in power' answer. But that's the way PMQ's is and one of the reasons why it's so boring. Remember, the Tories were still blaming Labour for the countries financial problems after the 2008 disaster after fourteen years in Government. I've even heard some of them referring back to 2010 since being in opposition ! So for Kemi and others to complain about that kind of answer is a bit rich to say the least.
| Question Time tonight on 09:57 - Jun 11 with 871 views | streetlyjack | I don't watch question time and have little time at all really for our politicians these days, never seen such an entitled bunch of money grabbing, self serving, completely useless and incompetent cretins. The key issue that politicians very rarely talk about and should talk about more is the changing demographics within Britian which is THE biggest issue currently facing the 'British' way of life and the values held by a lot of people. A demographer from Oxford university predicted last year that there would be a white minority in Britain by 2053, white British births since 2007 have stuck around the 65% mark this is forecast to rapidly decrease to 53% off the back of increased birth rates in other ethicities: - Bangladeshi births doubled to 2% total births - Pakistani births = 5.6% of all UK births (again doubled over 10 years) - Indian births now risen to 5.4% (doubled) - Black African births now at 5.36% - 'Other' Asian births at 3.7% - Mixed race births at 6.8% When you have an immigration system such as we do that grants UK citizenship to migrants who have 'anchor babies' in the UK to obtain their ILR (this carries a 95% grant rate currently) its hard to see how the UK will remain 'British' past 2050 which is a shocking statistic. I will finish by saying I am not racist and have many good friends from different ethnicities that I discuss this topic with, I also clearly understand the positive impact the vast majority of immigrants bring to the country and the economy, the key issue here is the government have established and endorse an immigration system that is accelerating a huge change in demographics across the UK which is rapidly changing the face of the UK. | |

Possibly low birth rates among whites could be, men are staying away from marriage and commitment, because there's nothing in it for them. Eventual divorce, with all it's costs, child maintenance, losing the house , and less access to the children Women on the other hand , are looking to careers and independence. When they get to mid 30s, they realise it's not everything they thought it would be, and decide maybe they want kids. it's too late for many by then.

Or it could be the delaying of parenthood (the average age of a mother is now over 30) because of the cost of raising a child, the difficulty in getting a property suitable for a family. The increase in numbers going to University means careers often start later. Starting a family later usually means smaller families. Then again people could just be more sensible and careful.

This growing trend amongst Brits is now competing with the traditional Indian and pakistani way of living which is all based around building big and strong family units of on average 6 people per family which is a lot higher than the traditional British family size. The Pakistani tradition of Endogamy where the groom marries his fathers brothers daughter at a very young age is where our cultures divide. Indians marry on caste, class, status etc and still produce large family units that are happy to live and share wealth together. There aren't that many British families around nowadays with 4 children whereas this is quite normal amongst the ethnic groups above - whatever way you look at it Brits are being 'outbred' in their own country.
