Extended families and the UK's open border 09:27 - Jul 16 with 19009 viewsAnotherJohn

We saw the story last week about the migrant care worker who managed to get visas for 15 dependents. The latest tale concerns the Palestinian refugee whom a UK court ruled should be allowed to be reunited with 18 extended family members because of the mental pain of being parted from them. This case was brought under the EHCR 'right to a family life' provision. The pressure cooker is going to go bang soon if this continues.

But the population of Wales is only increasing by about 0.5% a year, potentially even less than that now.

There is a lack of supply but a lot of that is down to second homes, holiday lets, vacant properties and developers banking land. There should be a massive development being built right now between Llangyfelach and Penllegaer, I think about 1500 homes should already have been completed. The developer has broken ground to secure long term planning and hasn't laid a brick, they're waiting for the economy to improve, 30% of that is social housing.

Immigrants generally live where others don't want to. It's partly where the replacement conspiracy theories come from. If you wanted a flat in Dyfatty with junkies and sex offenders as neighbours you could have one straight away, immigrants don't turn them down, Brits do.

I think in order to move to this country (or any country) you should need to prove you have the means to support yourself. Whether that’s in existing wealth or in a valuable skill/qualification. There’s absolutely no reason for us to throw open the gates and allow any old Tom dick and Harry to just rock up and demand to be looked after. We have enough of our own problems already.

Someone mentioned progressive posters which if I absorbed correctly means those who think the onoing influx of illegals is ok then maybe they may not or chose to ignore the fact that armed police were patrolling Swansea promenade during the weekends airshow whilst trying to negotiate past the 2 tonne concrete blocks placed in the hope they would prevent a terrorist attack on families or when visiting Neath in some parts you have to drive through cicanes build from 1 tonne builders bags filled with what ever .If this is progress than god help us because of these sort of preventative measures will now become part of our daily existence

As a society , we are cowards and ignore reality as it’s difficult
It’s why some want to legalise drugs believing that’s the way forward and to be responsible when taking dope
Drugs are the bottom line of our problems
It underpins everything but we won’t face up to it and do everything to make out it’s not happening
Migrants are chancers with nothing to lose coming from countries where life is cheap
Their values reflect that

A land of sanctuary
Make them valid
Welcomed even

There ya go

I’m trying to rack my brains as to when these concrete bollards appeared at these events? There was a lot of genuine threat from the IRA in the 70’s and 80’s. Did we have them then? I was too young at the time but I don’t remember them being around for the 90’s at least.

The big picture is that well over 15 million persons from other countries have entered the UK for an extended stay since 2000. Some of these, together with some natives, have since left, meaning that the population has risen by just over 10 million in this same period, with the rise driven almost solely by immigration. To say that this has had no impact on housing demand is (to put it mildly) implausible, I admit it is a long time since, I studied economics as part of my UG degree, but at that time the laws of supply and demand still applied.

Some may say I'm liberal. I don't think immigration in its current form is ok.

Prevention of terrorism is a different thing altogether..

I can vidly recall the media warning of bomb threats and to act accordingly but this mowing down of innocents is a relatively new phenomenon. Strangely coincidental around the time of Blair’s governmental tenure. Some think that although there is a very small proportion of persons of different backgrounds to us normal folk how many attacks are we supposed to accept as now the norm . I see there’s been another attack this morning in Paris , and so it continues .

You call yourself that along with centre so in my experience that must be confusing for you .Not sure why you consider terrorism as being not linked to immigration. Even during the troubles we were dealing with people who believed they were not of the UK and yet they lived amongst us.

The first major ramming attack was in Nice in 2016. The first one in the UK was committed by a Welsh man on Muslims.

But, yes obviously Blairs fault.

Why do you think we go through border patrols, police checks, EES and passport control ?

Of course it’s had an impact.

However, Germany have had a similar net take since 2000 and the house price increase has been about 80% and the UK’s has been about 250%.

We talk so much about immigration we’re not talking about other factors.

I don’t think any progressive posters have ever been in support of of either illegal immigration, despite being constantly told they are.

Could you define what a progressive poster is ? I'd be interested to know what your definition would be.

The population of Wales has only increased by around 0.6% per annum in recent years. Supply and demand isn't impacted to a significant degree by immigration.

At a local level I'd bet there is sufficient accomodation either completed or with planning permission to be completed in Swansea to account for this increase.
