It wasn’t a loss, but it could have been and you got the feeling the Swans could have played all day without scoring.2

Wilder has employed these tactics before. Obviously very different at home as we saw last season. He stretched his side across the pitch and instilled in them a discipline of pressing at every opportunity. They were far more prepared for the game with the Swans believing their better individual skills would wear down the opposition. For me it was another learning curve for Matos. They were stronger and more adept at deploying these tactics in amongst being far more determined and capable. Wilder deserved the point.
The intensity wasn’t there and it can’t be that the players are tired. Everything needs to be at a far higher tempo. I will go as far as to say the second half was reminiscent at times to Russell Martin. Build and slow down when getting over the halfway line.
Matos was completely out thought, and as many have said when he needed creativity and a player who can deliver a superb dead ball Walta was sat in the bench. Playing a defensive midfield in a game like this was a good idea based on last weeks experience. However, that isolated the wingers and the striker.
Giving away over 20% of possession when passing the ball meant the Swans were never going to break through in this game. It isn’t back to the drawing board but these players have to realise that strength and pace wins games in this league. Not a defensive mindset from the off. It sends the wrong message to the players.
For me I’m hoping it was an off day.

Agree we were back to aimlessly passing across the back no incisive forward passes i hope he settles but Just has been underwhelming so far

I think Widell would be a better option, he’s more mobile and stronger on the ball and in the challenge
100% this, Just needs time to bed in and get used to the pace and physicality of the championship a bit like Widell last season. Obviously a good player just needs time.

I would have taken 4 points from these 2 games to start with so a decent return from the first 2 games. To compete at the top in this division you need to have a plan B and also the ability to flex your tactics to counter the opposition, Matos and his coaching team need to find more solutions on this as teams have and will continue to let us have the ball and sit deep both home and away. IMO each game needs a specific plan, we cant just rely on the same system if we want to be successful this season.
I hope we can be less predictable and more direct when we need to be this season when the opportunities present themselves, there will be lots more who play as Sheff Utd did on Saturday and its down to us to find ways to break them down (especially at home).

That’s because they’re perceived as tricky teams , sizeable clubs We shouldn’t be blind to reality though Derby will also be tough but a good place to set down our marker We can do this
