He is what he is. Not lacking in talent but overrated. Capable of more than he showed for us during ten long years if pushed, but prone to slipping back into doing what he wants to do and clearly not good enough to attract any serious interest from higher up the pyramid during that time.

It became pretty ridiculous that every single thing seemed to have to come through him at one stage. He can do a job as a holding midfielder, similar to what Britton did for us, nothing flash or fancy, break up play and relay it off to get the ball moving forward.
Unfortunately tactically that wasn't our way with Grimes in the team, he was trying to be/instructed to be the main playmaker yet created very little and slowed things down terribly.
I wished him luck when he left, still do (as I didn't completely blame him for the tactical role he was playing) but agree with you on his limitations and ceiling and he's most likely to be back in the championship next year. Hopefully not against us though 😉 | | | |

Still find it funny (suspicious?) that he reportedly moved his family to Swansea to tighten the family unit, then just a few days later was travelling up/down the motorway network to/from Coventry leaving the family in Swansea. I’m sure its all worked out for him & the family in the end but I can only imagine the conversations around the kitchen table when the move initially happened!

I just think he was indulged. I compared him to the coaches son in a youth football team and I stand by it. Captain. Took all the set pieces. Played every game. Whether he deserved it or not.
He was probably smart enough to indulge the bosses he had at the time and was rewarded for it. As Keith points out, that probably didn't endear him hugely to the other players.
