| Time to negotiate a deal for Vipotnik ? on 12:47 - Aug 23 by blackswan | Seems like a lot of people want him sold? I dont get it top scorer in the championship last year in a team that hardly created loads of chances we need three strikers for a long season and vipi is our best |
On the pitch you have to agree.

| Time to negotiate a deal for Vipotnik ? on 09:21 - Aug 23 by Dr_Winston | We should hold out for the price we always wanted. Not sure why the vibe is shifting against Vipotnik. He's played about 90 minutes of league football so far this season, a good 30 minutes of it with absolutely no service yesterday and already has an assist. I'd much rather have him available to us than depend on Idah and another striker with a very patchy injury record. |
Look at Vip's scoring record last season. He started very slowly. He didn't have much of a pre-season this summer and as you say has played only 90 min of the season thus far. A lot of posters here say take what you can get for him NOW because of their gut feeling that he's not going to match last season's goal scoring. That's what a lot of us said last year and backed Cullen. How'd that work out?! If Vip has a season like last season then we'll be talking £30-35, maybe £40 M. High-scoring strikers are really hard to come by, and look at his age. So, here's some of the logic I'm seeing here: Sell Vip for whatever you can get right now because you don't have faith in him. You have faith in Idah who's never been a prolific scorer, or a 30+ yr old #9 who has an injury record. Really?

Do Championship forwards really go for £30M-40M.

and he didn't get many minutes in pre-season. I believe he could get all those goals again this season if he gets the consistent time on the pitch. Each of our strikers has particular qualities and it is up to Matos to use them at the right time. Vipotnik is only just 24 and was the Championship leading scorer. That is a huge achievement and what teams looking to buy a player really want when that becomes available in that category.

| Time to negotiate a deal for Vipotnik ? on 09:42 - Aug 23 by Fireboy2 | This ^ If he goes then so be it but as you say hes only played 90 mins, if he stays past this window he will get more gametime and hopefully start hitting the back of the net again. |
Yes, agree with that. The reason he’s not started is 1) to keep injury risk to a minimum and 2) to get Idah up to speed should he be first choice post deadline day. If he’s here after that day I’m sure he’s going to start more often than not, I hope he puts the same effort in as last year as he will naturally disappointed not to get a move to a bigger club / competition involvement.

If we keep him we will be seen as ambitious and looking for promotion. If we don't get promotion and if Vip doesn't get a good return the club will be criticised for not selling as his value drops from 15M to much lower. I stand by my point, we should sell to get few in to help with midfield and defense. Idah adds much more to a match. Vip looked like he just turned up to work yesterday but was a bit lost. One game doesn't make a player, but mad as it sounds Idah and Stewart are my strikers for the season. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Idah has never scored more than 16 in a season and he only did that once for Celtic who were the biggest fish in the pond in Scotland He’s not an out and out goalscorer,he plays best coming off the left or as a second striker Zan is a 9 and a proven one ,he’s obviously building up fitness ,I know we’ve signed Stewart who is also a proven 9 at this level but has a history of fitness issues It’s not fair to expect Idah to suddenly become Haaland , it’s not the way he plays and if we are to push for the top ,we have to have a 20 goal striker I hope we keep Zan

Didn't Norwich sell Buendia (an attacking winger) in 2021 to Aston Villa for £33M? I think Leeds, when they were in the Championship, sold Rutter (attacking MF but also played as a forward on occasion) for £40M to Brighton. Same amount for Leeds in their 2024 sale of Archie Gray (MF, not a forward) to Spurs? Joao Pedro (definitely a forward) at Watford to Brighton in 2023 for £30M? Didn't Omari Hutchinson (forward) go for £37.5M to Forest when he was at Ipswich? Hutchinson's best season goal scoring wise doesn't even come close to what Vip did last year. Ollie Watkins went to Aston Villa from Brentford for £28M in 2020. My point is that Swansea (when in either the Championship or the Premier League) most always seems to sell their really good players for less than what other clubs get for their best players. Why is that?

| Time to negotiate a deal for Vipotnik ? on 10:27 - Aug 23 by KeithHaynes | That makes sense to me, but I’m thinking more about ‘should we’ than advocating it. It’s a fine balance between sticking with him to selling him. Clearly Stewart was brought in to back up Idah, IMO. And there will be interest this week. I’m still not convinced by the injury and think it was more of a preservation thing with him carrying a minor knock. Either way freeing him up would save the club 100k or so a month. However, Shamrock are weighing into the club, so maybe it’s all good ? |
Whatever money we save will go straight back out in someone else's wages. I guess the question that the club will be asking itself, like when the offer came in for Galbraith, is whether they can make better use of the money a sale would provide than having the himself. I'm not sure that it would be in this instance. If we keep him and he has another strong start to the season then that would only increase his value in the January window. We'll need to do him (and Idah, and Stewart) better than we did yesterday though.

Again, I stand by my earlier post that Vip has been a slow starter. Last season, he scored three goals in the Swans' first 10 games. #1 in 3rd game, #2 in 4th, and #3 in the 7th game. He scored his 9th goal on Dec 26 vs. Coventry City, and then really went on a rampage and finished with 23 goals for the season. As we all know, the Championship is a really competitive and tough league. If the owners are patient as I think they are, and if his teammates get him good service, then Vip will score goals like he did last season. The owners can cash-in on him if they so choose because teams who need a goal-scoring forward will come calling in Jan. If the owners can get what they're looking for before the current window closes on Sept 1, then good for them.

None of the teams that got promoted last season has a 20-goal striker. Neither did any of the teams in the play-offs. We don't have to have a 20-goal striker to push for the top. However, it helps!

We are far better off with goals shared throughout the team, no single player can play every minute of every game. Thats why teams with multiple scorers are near the top.
