Set piece play . Brum have employed a set piece specialist to improve goal chances. They put Solis behind the Wrexham keeper and hit the ball high to the back post . Patterson the keeper was blocked by Solis and Neumann had a free header.Goal.
Their second goal was due to Vyner switching off and Neumann again getting the jump on him . Poor defending .
More and more teams are addressing set pieces to their advantage . Something we need to be aware of . Arsenal last season for instance were a prime example .They put most of their defenders at the back stick and caused havoc through sheer overload of numbers . Another tactic was the late entry into the 6 yard box of 3 or 4 defenders making it very difficult for defenders to counter. With defences now becoming more and more organized and drilled to the nth degree teams are realising there are easier pickings to be had from a set piece play.
Brums defence generally played very well they are a hard nut to crack with the central partnership of Klarer and Neumann .I would put them up there as among the best in the divsion . The midfield stutters at times Damarai Gray being the stand out player along with the ever improving John Solis who I thought was outstanding last night.
It shows that in this league you can achieve things with a rock solid defence .
In defence partnerships are key so the understanding and interplay becomes second nature .This is what Brum are getting out of The Klarer/Neumann partnership at the moment . Keeping them fit will be key.
The Cabango /Welsh partnership was starting to look promising until Bens injury .
