Based on what i've seen so far we'll be at least competitive in every game this season. Which is a huge step up already compared with last season. I'm very optimistic. And maybe something will happen in January (spending rules permitting) to push us on again.
One of the points in the Indy report was that Wrexham actually did Vitor a service by providing him with a tactical headache to solve. There will probably be many teams that will try to do what Wrexham did - stifling our play. If as a result of the draw Vitor can come up with a few different ideas to solve the problem then it will have been a good thing.
And on the Wrexham support. Were they there ? If they weren't wearing red you'd assume not. Very quiet. And less than a thousand as well. |
Many may try but they won’t have the quality that Wrexham have been able to buy. We on the other hand will hopefully become better as each game passes so at the moment it’s looking good.

spot on report and summary of the game
The officials were meh, that early challenge on Key had booking written all over it the assistant referee in front of the West missed at least 3 offices and ignored an assault on Key in the second half
From early doors Parkinson was on the ear of the 4th official complaint about the free kicks whenever Wrexham fouled.
They did a job on us but as has been said another point still unbeaten and we sit on top of the table and still only one goal conceded in 5 games.
I suspect there were moans as Cabango replaced Lissah but with another game coming on Tuesday was this about rotation and giving Lissah a spell before possibly replacing Key who ran his socks off in the starting line up for Tuesday?
As the report mentions Matos has to work out how we overcome sides who come and nullify our play ar the .com.
We still have the likes of Iorpenda to come into the team who offers something different with his strong driving runs and I m sure Matos will work something out but in the meanwhile I'm enjoying the ride frustrated yes we didnt get more out of yesterday but relieved as this could have been a banana skin. |
It was a good report and as you say rotation with the congested fixtures list is paramount but at home do we start with our most attack minded players Opoku is a defenders nightmare, he is good under the high ball, his movement is good he drives at players with the ball at his feet, has the pace to chase the balls in behind the defenders, he loose the ball trying to outwit defenders but he is very quick to recover the ball and keeps us higher up the pitch. The defence now can sit higher up the park and if balls in the middle get cut out then the defences can deal with counter attacks a lot better now. Teams have come to stifle us this season only to be outdone early in games

Saw probably 2/3 of the game overall on the telly from where I was.
Lot of similarities to the Sheff Utd game. A technically limited but well organised opposition who basically bullied us into ineffectiveness against them, and that's not a swipe. Both teams have shown the way to play against us and we need to find some sort of counter to it or our ambitions may be stymied.
Dare I say that this is the sort of situation that we may have found use for Walta in? Or at the very least, slot Eom into the centre instead? Just has shown very little so far and Widell has been better off the bench and is more of an 8 than a 10 anyway. |  |

That's Birmingham, Sheffield Utd and Wrexham who have parked the bus. I watched a bit on Man City yesterday, they were very patient in the same scenario. Kept the wide players very wide and waited for a bit of space to appear whilst moving the ball from side to side.
Their goal came from Fernandez finding some space on the right of midfield and playing a cracking pass behind the full back for the winger to get in an early cross.
It's not easy and going gung ho does not help, we need someone playing the role of Dobbie or Pablo Hernandez and some decent runners. On the plus side Yeo is improving all the time and looks like a great prospect in attack. |  |

It’s not new. Most teams either try to press us hard, which will be a lot harder against Lissah and Welsh, or they set up like Wrexham did in the first half, disrupt, niggle and do anything they can to stop us playing, then try to nick a goal late on.
It just so happens we’ve played Wrexham who do it with better players than most and Chris Wilder who has made a career out it. We’ve got a better team and certainly than a better squad than we’ve had for years. Won’t happen every time, but we’ll break down most teams who come to do that. | | | |

I would say the main problem when teams put those lines in front of is we end up playing too tight namely sucking in their players but not releasing it earlier enough,to find or make the spaces. There are signs of us doing it as the passing is more forward looking, add to the fact we are higher up the pitch making more forward runs higher up the park rather than having Galbraith Darling and Key doing it deep in our own half. Nice to see any of our back four making forward runs drawing players to them but releasing it earlier enough to find spaces, it has been better although Yeo, Just and even Widell , who doesn't look comfortable in his role on the right, were guilty of holding onto the ball too long in forward runs and losing control of the ball in the crowded areas they were targeting.
For me Lissah and Welsh are the first choice centre backs we have been solid and have played some lovely football at times when the refs punish the oppo foul play, we just have to show the composure to unlock those teams that set up to stifle us. | | | |
