Interesting interview with Jeremy Hunt earlier i.e. he talked about a worse case scenario prediction with 20% of the population getting affected. And a peak infection period of 3 weeks.

He also said medical students are likely be allowed full powers to allow them to practice otherwise prohibited tasks before graduating. That is to address any increase in NHS demand. Also found out today that the virus cannot infect by means of breaking the skin barrier and entering via the bloodstream. It said hand washing was recommended. So washing hands after using a bus or a self service checkout shopping etc is wise practice.

I see England and Ireland are cancelling rugby matches against Italian teams, but Newport Gwent Dragons are playing Benneton Rugby who hail from Treviso in Veneto one of the quarantined areas tomorrow.

You can’t make it up.

Sales of hand sanitizer gels are through the roof.

How many of us didn't quite grasp the concept of washing our hands after wiping out bums, touching anything dirty etc etc by the time we were 5?
Always had parents, family members, teachers drumming that into us.
The solution - soap and water.

Before long there'll be advice on how to breathe and blink

I find the fact that hand sanitizer sales are going well is extremely encouraging and welcome news.

A case of washing before eating after a visit to a place where door handles, hand rails, self service checkout buttons, lift buttons, other objects of frequent human touch and contact etc, Is a very wise move.

One danger is inadvertent touching of face i.e. mouth where the pathogen/virus can enter into body. That'll be harder to prevent because its done as an instinctive action, habitual and without any thought or memory of doing so.

I'll be honest, the most worrying thing about all this for me is, as most likely the virus is going to take hold, is the spread between drug users and rough sleepers.

I doubt very much that washing thier hands in hot soapy water for 20 seconds is going to be high on thier list of priorities when they sneeze into thier hands...

You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.

True, I hope some form of service provision is set up for the very people you mention.

It'll be rather interesting how many people actually end up infected by this virus. The expert I heard earlier predicted a high level peak in infection number lasting for about 3 weeks that could really impact upon the NHS's coping strategy. He said infection numbers would fall off after that.

OK I've changed it.

The worst aspect of this virus isn’t the virus itself, it’s the hysteria and panic it causes.
For the vast majority of people infected the symptoms will be relatively mild.

You’d be surprised (or maybe you wouldn’t ) Dicky.

The number of times I’ll visit a public loo and wash my hands while others come in and out without doing so. I then have to open the doors to get out which were handled by those not versed in public hygiene. Happened in Morrisons this week.

It’s free, what’s the issue!?

Like I've mentioned on another thread, men that wash their hands after having a slash in the bogs in pubs are in the minority as far as I have witnessed.

They hold their dongs, get piss and germs all over them, and then leave without washing. I hope this virus will at least help to educate those heathens.
