| What actually makes a club big ? on 16:58 - Jan 11 with 958 views | thornabyswan | A big club needs a crowd of more than 5000 for an FA Cup tie also you would have thought a big club would have had more than 2 seasons in the PL both of which were pretty pathetic really. But in fairness they did win the FA Cuppp back in the day even if it was only 10 years after the Russian revolution. Rasputin was a big Cardiff fan as well so you dont get much bigger than that it must be true Anis put it in one of his books. [Post edited 11 Jan 2021 17:00]

| What actually makes a club big ? on 17:17 - Jan 11 with 902 views | Thornburyswan | Not sure if this is a genuine question but I’ll bite - always depends on your scope but if we talk UK then for me there are 7 big clubs - Man City & United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea plus Celtic & Rangers from Scotland. All tick the fan base, history, expect to win trophies most seasons, consistently competitive etc etc. Spurs & maybe Leicester fans will kick off but they are a decent way short of those 7 - despite the occasional decent season or two. | | | |
| What actually makes a club big ? on 17:27 - Jan 11 with 881 views | Dr_Winston | Wasn't all that long ago Chelsea were pulling in 18-20,000 crowds. They've been relatively successful due to Bates' debt and Abramovich's cash, but I don't know if I'd put them ahead of Spurs or even Everton for size. | |

Chelsea are nowhere near a big club only started winning things since Roman abramavic same man city average clubs Chelsea had only 8000 fans for a premier league game against Swindon in 1994 [Post edited 11 Jan 2021 17:32]

Fair points Dr I did hesitate over Chelsea, sneaked in under the ‘expect to be winning trophies’ measure - down to 6. Everton short on trophies for me.

Fan base probably which smashes Chelsea into oblivion. Also trophies won Man Utd certainly. Qualify on both counts City. Nope-saved only by Arab sheik money. They almost went bust when we did in the 80s. Historically nothing Arsenal. Yep. Villa. Bigger fan base world wide than people think and huge history . Liverpool. Fan base one of worlds biggest albeit glory hunting jerks . Trophies without doubt. Everton. Another huge fan bae and world wide too.Massive history in the game Celtic and Rangers. BIG on Bigotry ,hatred and religious dogma. Trophies in a glorified pub league really dont count

What would happen if a club ever fell on hard times, Leeds probably being the best example of this, what would happen. Leeds still had supporters clubs all over the UK filling out away ends up and down the country. Everton, who Cardiff fans compare themselves too would do exactly the same, as would the obvious ones United, Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle, West Ham. The likes of Sunderland and Nottingham Forest are all bigger than Cardiff aswell.

Think for me it depends on what would happen if they dropped a division or two, like Man City did. Citeh still pulled in crowds of 30,000+. I suspect Spurs would too. Everton you could quibble about but I reckon the fanbase is pretty loyal. I'd be surprised if Chelsea did.

Problem with using fan base as a key measure is you then cannot exclude Celtic & Rangers - agree Everton’s history is huge but most of it is just that, every time they look like building a side that just might win something they fall over again (plus they’ve actually won less than you might think - both Chelsea & Spurs have won more). Villa slightly more interesting but not dissimilar to Everton for me. To avoid the Scottish pub league debate I’ll stick to England so now we are down to 3 - Man U, Liverpool & Arsenal.
| What actually makes a club big ? on 18:04 - Jan 11 with 814 views | swancity | Morriston Workingmens Club is a big Club. So is the Sketty Park Club and the Cwmfelin. Probably the biggest club is the Penlan Club. Serve more beer there than any club in Wales; that’s what makes it a big Club. | |

I dismiss them in the same way I would discount The New Saints. They ve won the LOW several times too. I admit to being rather jaundiced regarding these 2 clubs whom I detest. People follow them out of religious /family /political reasons and nothing else.

When did TNS win the European Cup then ?😂 As Celtic have. Any Club that have won that elevate themselves straight away into a super club category and yes you can include A Villa and N Forest in that.

This makes sense. Big for me in my world right now with the Swans are the Forests and Derbys that come in hordes, they always have and always will. In the Prem, Spurs Everton, L'pool, Man U stood out with massive, impressively vocal/loyal support.
