The Jack Army shouted "We want you to stay" on numerous occasions towards their skipper. And Martin delivered a brilliant response when asked if he heard the chants aimed at the central midfielder. “I joined in," he said.

"Anyone who sits in this chair and says, a player of that calibre, if they want him to leave then they'd be crazy. He really suits what we're doing, mentally with his character, with his attitude and his courage on the ball. Technically, he could play in any team. "So nothing's changed really with Grimesy. We want to keep him. We'll have to see how that pans out."

He didn't though. He looked exactly what he was. A young player with talent who needed a year or two of first team football to develop.

Ultimately in the long term he may still fail to develop in the right way and not really cut it. Point is the last two years weren't surroundings in which a player like Dhanda is going to flourish. He has a chance now. Down to him to take it.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Haha Potter played him 6 times. 6 appearances.

I know you're desperate to try and discredit Cooper in every possible way, but this is getting silly now.

In the next 2 seasons under Cooper he played 19 and 30 times.

He has a chance now!? Martin started a free agent who we signed the day before in his first league match ahead of him!

Not everything is Cooper's fault.

Hard to believe the stick Cooper has taken for finishing 6 and 4. Hope Cooper doesn't read forums he nowhere near bad as many on planet swans make out who have absolutely slated him.

The most talented? I think he'll do better under Martin too but I think saying most talented is questionable.. He has talent and skill but he needs to develop and learn to deal with the more physical aspects of football.

Cooper strangled the life out of our football. He got results yes but the football was ugly. Players like Dhanda struggled to impress.

Maybe there's more evidence for that with Grimes, lets see the difference in him (if he stays) under a manager that encourages a more attractive style.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Could be something in this. Martin seems to have got what he wanted from the owners so far to be fair. The Garner loan seems to have gone a bit quiet too, potentially no need if Grimes can be convinced to sign a new contract.

Ok, a couple may be injury prone, but Grimes, Fulton, Patterson, Walsh, Downes, Smith looks a decent set of midfield options.

There is clearly an agenda to be had.

Sadly the fraudulent framing of things didn’t end this summer and we are in for a fair bit of it this season too.

Potter using Dhanda 6 times was “using him wisely”, Cooper using him more is “mismanaging him”… see any other player that applies to, Cullen a fine example too… ad nauseam.

Yawn

He wanted assurances on certain arrivals before accepting the job and he has got them.

I can see Grimes staying, and with the rumours today Lowe is of interest to Anderlecht, it could happen.

that and no one seems to be beating down our door to buy Grimes...
He is a good player for us lets hope he stays...maybe the sale of Lowe will mean he will..

As I said previously...whilst there will be those of us who see him as an "outstanding" player and believed he would be playing in the PL this season seem to be proven wrong....whilst he appears to "shine" for us he doesnt seem to have enough for others to want to spend...though Fulham may still yet, the Brighton link has died down too.

Seems the "overuse" of Lowe last season may pay dividends!

Shouldn't overlook Williams after last night's performance. Tempting since he's a local product we didn't pay a fee for, I know.

Who have we overlooked that we shouldn’t have?

We have an excellent record of giving players that deserve it a chance.

No idea where this notion has popped up from, it’s just simply not true. Allen, Davies, Cabango, Cullen, Rodon et al will tell you the same.

I couldn’t get a stream for yesterdays game. What did you think of his performance?

I think it was you that said we shouldn’t read too much into last night due to the age and quality of Readings team?

As you know though, if he is good enough, he won’t be overlooked. The club have a great record in that department.

Nobody. It’s a dig at me for saying academy products should only be played when they merit it and those that have been highly touted but not given much of a run in the first team are now invariably playing below Championship level.

You are absolutely spot on. Without question.

As youth policies go, ours has to be right up there with that of the likes of Southampton. Very little slips through our net once they are in the club. We seem to identify them and blood them extremely well if their talent deserves it.

Those that do go on to have careers after we let them go tend to prove that their level was generally well below what would be required to start for us regularly anyway.

We may do a few things wrong as a club, blooding youth isn’t one of them.

Good lord we've got a way to go until we've got the same record as Southampton. You can count our senior products in the last decade on two hands. One season where the dam burst due to relegation and some people believe we're uniquely productive.

I didn’t say we had the same record, I said our youth policy is up there with theirs. Not the output was the same.

In the sense that if we have a youngster in our system that has talent, he will break through. Southampton have no fear of putting youth products in their side if they merit it, and neither do we.

As I said, you wouldn’t have to use many fingers (maybe even just one) to look at the last 20 years and find a youth product we have not given a chance to who has then gone on to prove we were wrong not to.

It's not up there with theirs. The difference between us and a Southampton or a Man Utd is that they have found ways to blood youth consistently over a period much longer than the 3 years we've done it, and do so while at the top competitive level. When we were in the PL sod all came through. A few half million £ Scotsmen got brief spells and that was it between Ben Davies and Connor Roberts. Players promised end of season minutes when we were safe from relegation rarely even got that. Makes you laugh when those players are expected to show loyalty after they become stars.

Even saying three years for us is a bit much. Last season it was 22 year old Liam Cullen and some loaned in players from other academies. A few cup cameos when senior players were injured/wanted resting otherwise.

Many of Southampton's products don't go on to stay at their level either. Does that make them wrong to have promoted them and given them the chance? Paddy McNair is a Championship footballer so Man Utd wasted their time playing him 24 times in the Premier League? It's a strange way of looking at it imo.

It is up there with theirs, for the reason I gave. Our policy is that if they are good enough then they will get their chance, as is Southampton’s. Most other clubs have a long list of examples of youth products they have let go that go on to bigger and better things.

It’s pointless in looking in areas I have not addressed to say why it’s not the same. I have given the area it’s the same and that is simply the policy that if they are good enough then they play. That is proven by the lack of players we have let go that have shown we were wrong to.

This conversation is regarding you making the point that we don’t give youth a chance, no other area of our youth policy has been discussed. So the comparison with Southampton is solely in that policy that we do.

If you have an issue with the amount we produce then that’s another debate altogether. What I am saying is that what talent we do have, that is worthy of playing, they play.

That’s as clear as day. Norrington-Davies Is the only example of the last 15 years isn’t he? I can’t think of anyone who has shown themselves worthy of playing regular top half Championship football.

Can you?
