I'm really confident he's going to stay now.
Plus Martin mentioned Connor in his interview today, which sounds promising, but also may be a reason he feels Laird not so important:

Think Lowe could bring the biggest fee out the saleable assets. I can't see the yanks going to the close of window with what has been spent plus what is being earmarked to spend to strengthen the squad without a sale to recoup all if not most of what has and will be spent.

Yeah I've got that in my head about a new striker as well. Problem is, I've built it up now in my head and could be a big let down in the end.
