Wants to end the free parking arrangement, can't blame them, the car park is always rammed during the day but the store never reflects this. They must be losing customers thru it.
Tesco is looking to scrap the free parking arrangement at its Swansea city centre store car park - asking the council to pass a ruling that would mean people have to spend £3 in its store if they want to park there.
Currently, motorists are free to park at the supermarket giant's Marina store car park for two hours without having to visit Tesco at all. When Swansea Council gave the go-ahead for the superstore to be built back in 1999, the use of the site as an ancillary car park for city centre shoppers was integral to its acceptability.
In January, we reported how Tesco had sought approval to install automatic number plate recognition cameras and ticket validation terminals, whereby customers could still park for two hours but only if they spent at least £3 in the store. Those who didn't would be fined £70, reduced to £42 if paid within 14 days, but this wouldn't apply to parking stays of half an hour or less.
The store asserted that its car park was under considerable pressure due to its use by non-store customers, but the application was refused by the council, which stated "large numbers of parking spaces were always available and traffic was flowing well" at the car park, based on a number of site visits.
Should never have been built there, tell them no and they might leave.
Not gonna disagree with that, same can be said for the massive eyesore that is the county hall, its always baffled as to why the jail was built where it is to. They could do so much more with the front, it should be the focal point for the City, instead its a mish mash IMO

Not sure your argument for the prison is valid it was built betwen 1845 and 1861 when that area of Swansea was hardly a tourist attraction. Was mainly sand dunes. Swansea Victoria Station and the railway line opened around 1867 and the South Dock 1859. The town planners back then could hardly be blamed for putting it there.
The town and city of Swansea has always been an eyesore. It's a place with real character as are most former industrial towns. Its why we love em. Being a pretty town doesnt give it character .
They could operate a similar scheme to that of Morrisons in Neath. Pay to park but if you spend more than £5 in store you can claim it back at the till.

I know, how old it is, but it should have been moved over the yrs, just proves that there has been a total lack of imagination by those who have been in charge.
Council might change their minds this time, especially as they have to try and fill that new multi-story they are building for the new arena, which is right next door to Tesco.
Tesco will be selling a lot of Lotto tickets and newspapers if they get their way.

I said things like that and had hate posts, which continue to this day. You can get away with "slagging off "Swansea. It is nothing of the kind ,of course, and you are dead right.
Its a shame that buildings, such as Ben evans store, were not rebuilt after the Germans destroyed much of our wonderful town. Tesco hold a prime bit of land and made an agreement. Perhaps they can keep 30% of the car park and make the charge and the rest is not part of Tesco by whatever agreement.

Why on earth would the home office want to move a prison.

I never park there it can be a tw@t to get in and out of there, although I'm luckier than most as I can park over on the Marina, buy my mates place and walk over, not so good when the weather is like it has been, but still.

Swansea has a long history of cretinous councils.
Even you can't blame the council for the prison. Responsibility of the home office and they are not going to shift just to make the place look better. No one wants a new prison in their back garden. You only have to look at the fuss that the new super prison proposed for Baglan Moors. It would have created a modern prison plus 100s of jobs for Port Talbot but their labour MP did not new well paid jobs in his constituency.

I'm pretty confident that any MP wouldn't want a big Prison built in his constituency . Even though it will bring new decently paid jobs it also brings the families in to town. Bridgend is becoming more of a feeder town for Cardiff by the look of it.

Thankfully in Wrexham they have now have the jobs.

Unfortunately Prisons have to be built so well done to Wrexham for not derailing the new prison and of course getting the jobs. Thankfully that Labour MP did not put up too many objections.

I'm not sure it's actually policed though. I've been going there for a couple of years and parking in the car park (genuinely going in to Morrisons to shop) and I've never paid to park or had a parking ticket there...

Swansea Tesco is getting a number plate recognition camera and you’ll need to buy something to park there

This explains why some of the decisions were made after the war. I really did not know this until recently.
I know. It is a shame that the local authority didn't continually remind the Swansea folk of the plans and highlight the fact that Westminster overruled and are therefore responsible for what we have had for a generation and not the council.
