| When a manager gets it wrong 08:52 - Dec 19 with 1330 views | sw02sea | Interesting comments from Graham Souness concerning Leeds manager Bielsa. This part was taken from an article he wrote …. “He’s asking players who are not good enough to play like Barcelona 10 to 12 years ago. It’s your job as a manager to get the best out of the players you’ve got. I just don’t understand how you can expect players to play like that. I’m not sure how long supporters will accept it. Sounds familiar? | | | | |

But he's right isn't he.? First, fans have to wash the sentiment from their eyes. Last night the normally "placid" at interviews Bielsa was clearly rattled if only by his filth for fans racism

| When a manager gets it wrong on 10:24 - Dec 19 with 1218 views | Catullus | It's a point of view I've come around to. I'm not saying dump Martin but he has to realise that we can't keep going the same way as the last 3 games. I want entertaining football but getting done 4-1 at home, mostly because of our own failings, that's no more entertaining than what Cooper served up. It's frustrating though. Cooper took over a good squad at Forest, he shows Hughton and those before him up certainly. Whatever the reason he went so negative here, it happened. His Forest team look good and they have one thing we are desperate for, pace. I watched Arsenal v Leeds this morning. Arsenal play the way we want to. it took Arteta a while but he seems to have gotten there. they play with pace, with direction, with purpose. We won't get to that standard but maybe we can climb that ladder a bit, good enough to be entertaining and maybe have a crack at promotion. Still though, Martin has to be more pragmatic, you cannot make orange juice by squeezing plums! results have to be better too or the ownership will feel the pressure and a point will come where they decide martin is a lost cause. he has to accept that or face the consequences. If Martin is too stubborn, too arrogant, he is his own worst enemy. I want him to succeed but he has to learn! | |

Arse play it forward and quickly. This is what we do not and the reason why some are angry. It gives teams time to organise and they do.

It's the pace that kills teams. Not just a player with pace but moving the ball quickly too. We have been so slow moving the ball, teams have lots of time to get back into position and shut us down. The next window is so important, we need pace and to play at more pace. Souness is a bit of a dick but on this, he is right, in my opinion.

It could have been anyone Cat. It could have been Bowyer,Parker or the Stoke chap all of whom were amongst the first to lay bare the Russy project.

Yes but back then he could still claim for it to be early days. Back then patience was needed, we had to give him a fair chance. It's December now though, he's had time, I haven't run out of patience with him yet but as we seem to have gone backwards Martin needs to show some sense, show us he's learning, show us he won't sacrifice our club on the altar of his dream style of football. Or maybe Martin will get lucky and he won't hear any booing because the stadia will be empty again? Maybe this is the best season for Martin to be in charge because, with those clubs having points deductions, there is a lessened risk of relegation.

I think stadiums will close and Maartin will be lucky. I hope the club is and he gets an attractive offer to move on. Our people must know they have screwed up and really need to be looking around at who might be available to take us forward. It will be about cost however and that is the only reason Martin is still with us. We are deperately boring which contradicts all what Russ says.Every word

There's many a player who would have died for the career Souness had, he speaks a great deal of sense. Martin won't learn, he didn't at MKD's and he won't here, we as a club can't afford the players he needs to play is idealistic style and even if he did, it wouldn't work in every game.

Souness was a fantastic player in a fantastic team, not such a great manager though. If Martin doesn't learn he'll fall flat very quickly. The best teams don't just rely on the one way. The best teams can mix it up

| When a manager gets it wrong on 14:16 - Dec 19 with 1039 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Brendan Rodgers got a mixed bag of player of low cost playing like Barcelona as did Martinez. De Vries Taylor Monk Tate Rangel Gower Britton his back 7. These were not international except Taylor. They were soldi technical players and heavily coached and drilled. Martin can fdi it as well if he can coach and drill the players. Bendan went to the like off the biggest teams and got great results. Gower was a technical player who came o s free from Southend. | |

I don't think the club feel they've screwed up. It was always going to be a transition year and time and patience will be needed in abundance from all. Your point earlier (hilariously down arrowed by Stupidboy76) couldn't be more accurate. Of course, to play certain aspects of high paced football needs players with the right attributes. But other parts of that style come from coaching. There's no reason whatsoever that with good training ground practice that we can't for example start driving forward from the midfield with the wing backs moving accordingly to take a pass at pace. That's basic stuff. Asking someone like Laird to generate pace with the ball is not working. He's no Dan James. Give him time but as Cat said he's got to learn.

Union. Good riposte there. I believe they MIGHT be thinking as I suggeted.Of course we cant be certain as we are loike mushrooms. Being downarrowed? Ive no idea a to who does that to any of my posts.I'd take it as a compliment as it means Ive made people react and maybe think. When we all think the same and/or do not have the strength to offer what we really think then we are sunk. Note ...many reply with insults or derision which is still allowed.Any doubt ,read Winston' constant insults. It is my opinion,Martin is utterly the wrong choice, that he will take us nowhere except downwards and we are being taken for fools. We have many decent ,hard working folk in our fan base and I will not have ANYONE I think is disrespecting them or the Club as a whole. In the grand scheme of things,Martin is a nobody who is simply starting his managing career with us. We ve had the lovely city/people crap;it's a well worn path to nowhere in particular.

Both Brendan and Martinez demonstrated almost immediately that they were capable of coaching players to play the way each of them wanted - a style that saw us earn points. They didn't need 3+ transfer windows. They didn't ask for multiple seasons. Any person in the role of club manager / head coach can instruct his players to pass it around the back 7 for a two minutes each time we win possession before finally attempting an attack after completing 20 passes. It requires no tactical ability or skill. You could do it. I could do it. The difficult part is coaching your players to defend successfully without the ball and attack effectively with the ball. I have seen no evidence whatsoever that Russell Martin can do that.

We had over 100% more possession than West Brom, yet we converted that into just 13% more dangerous attacks. West Brom had twice as many shots on target than us. They had more shots off target. Our goalkeeper had to make 5x as many saves as theirs. I'd argue that's a perfect example of Russell Martin's inadequacies. We'll win the odd game playing this way, of course. We'll occasionally come up against incompetent managers who set up against us in a manner that perfectly suits us (Barnsley) and we'll occasionally benefit from unbelievable luck and see us win despite being comprehensively outplayed (West Brom). Even Cardiff created nearly as much as we did all game, despite us having over 300% more possession than them. The only games I recall us actually dominating the possession and converting that into a equal attacking and defensive dominance were Peterborough and Barnsley.
