HiJack ! 1st Jan 2022 12:57Steve Cooper seemed pretty keen on signing Sam Greenwood last season, and in fact towards the latter end of the season before. The young Leeds United forward was on Cooper’s radar for sure. Now he is ready to jump in to the melting pot and offer Greenwood terms at Nottingham Forest. 0

Cooper was in direct dialogue with Leeds at one point 18 months back when at the swans. Thing is it all helps, but cooper is miles ahead of Martin in this one.

I really don't see the point of loan signings this window. Expensive and we are destined for mid table. Need permanent signings coming through or save the cash till the summer.

Agreed, think Cooper will have first call on this one

Yep, we need to buy and buy well 1 or 2 in critical positions offloading what we dont need or play. Wasting money on loans baffles me mid season.

Like pushing Bidwell out to bring in a loanee, for what exactly that loan player ain't gonna be here next season, just a chance to improve himself to go back to his parent club with a bit more playing experience, it does little for us.

Bidwell IMHO is not good enough to play in a RM team set up, neither is Manning who is the better footballer of the two. To be fair though they are not out and out wingbacks, Max i dont know about you but im really worried about our defence. Bennet and Ben are considered not good enough to play as the centre Half and our balance is shocking.,any cross ball in behind has us in panic mode. Our GK are also iffy but again to be fair Hamer started well before teams worked us out Rumours look like we have a new one lined up? I think i would settle for 2 WB or one and a CH if available in this window.

Why should we jettison decent players because they dont fit RMs plan. What if the Russ plan proves to be a nightmare ;then we have lost good players for nothing and replaced them with Russykids who are crepe. [Post edited 1 Jan 2022 19:19]

Know where you are coming from OHL, but RM is our manager and must be given a chance to put his mark on the squad with players he requires. Fulton is the one that baffles me but you have to give managers time. The players supposedly leaving could be replaced if it goes South but Downes is a player so im not to concerned. For full disclosure though the first time i saw Yan Dhanda i thought we had a serious player and i seriously thought that Celina was also going places.

He needs to start playing centre backs at centre back, to start with, might have a chance of keeping the goals against column in decent shape then.

Don't disagree with you about the defence. When we lose the ball teams will look to attack our outside centre backs with pace and when we build from the back they will look to press any centre back with limited ability on the ball. The way Martin wants us to play, the outside centre backs need a bit of pace as they have to cover the full back area when we lose the ball - the diagonal that currently creates panic. The central centre back needs to be able to bring the ball out and be strong in the air. The keeper has to have ball playing skills. I can see what Martin wants to do with the defence but our defenders are square pegs. Williams is a square peg that can go back to Liverpool. The concern raised by some posters is are there players out there that can play this way or be coached to play this way and are within our budget? It is a legitimate concern that requires some very clever recruitment in the next couple of windows.

.. Lots n lots of hot air, and ofc nothing of substance, as per. Another master diatribe of the bleedin obvious. There's a pattern. Square pegs blah blah is so yesteryear, nowadays. The best managers (like Cooperball) cuts the cloth as per available resource ; gives it his best shot and succeeds. The worst mangers immediately demand the outrageous, like Martin, and fails, ignominiously, time and again. 16th, unheard of. Cooper will likely nail his man, as per. And completely outclass Martin, as per. Cooper acquires our best player, Piroe. Martin ditches our best player, Piroe. Says it all. And such the travesty to us proper fans. . .

There are players out there, young players like Downes who we need to target our scouting system needs to be top notch. Ive discussed with old teamates of mine about our sqaud and we all think Fulton has been unlucky, but the majority of the time we return to the defence and our inability to get through the lines quickly and generally lack of pace when they force us down the left. We thought Downes in for Naughton and Jay in front would have given us better balance upto the window. I for one think RM is doing alright and needs backing i dont understand all the negativity, we must play our players and not get in loans and waste money. I see posts hijacked with RM out and he is a fraud etc they are entitled to that view but i see it unjustified. Football is about opinions i know but fans must be honest as well as the players.

Agree that scouting needs to be top notch and that we need to be concentrating on players to sign now and in the summer. However to do the latter we have to move players on. The Fulton situation is a strange one especially reading Keith's remark about Martin and him in September. Clearly something has gone on behind the scenes. LWB, CB and GK are priorities alongside an option for Piroe. With so many strikers on our books that will be a loan. If we are looking for an option for Pato that will probably be a loan as well. This season is a reset; I also think Martin is doing ok but needs time. I get that some see us as being possession for possessions sake; I see our slowness in moving the ball and lack of ambition at times holding us back. Making too many individual errors at the back and a lack of pace is costing us points. It will be interesting to see what our squad looks like and plays like at the end of the window.
