| Ministry of Justice 18:29 - Feb 2 with 3773 views | johnlangy | This is the email I just sent to Rebecca Evans re the 500 MOJ jobs planned on being transferred to Wales ********************************* As part of their Levelling Up agenda the Westminster Government are planning on moving Ministry Of Justice jobs around the UK. They plan on creating seven Justice Collaboration Centres and the one in Wales is planned for Cardiff. There will be 500 jobs transferred and they explain that they will expand the department’s presence in Swansea, Cardiff and Newport with some additional jobs in North Wales. With my cynical head on I believe that this will translate into perhaps 100 jobs between Swansea, Newport and North Wales with the rest (400 or so) going to the new centre in Cardiff. In England the reason for the ‘levelling up’ is to bring the rest of England closer to the prosperity enjoyed in London and the South East. In Wales the only area that could be considered wealthy is Cardiff and the South East and yet instead of the jobs going to other areas of Wales that need them they will go to Cardiff. Add on the Newport ones and we would get about 430 of the 500 going to the one area that doesn’t need them. Following on from the almost criminal decision to centralise all Welsh HMRC jobs in Cardiff it makes me wonder why Welsh Labour aren’t interested in levelling up in Wales. Even the dreadful Boris Johnson is apparently making an attempt to do it in his country. Welsh Labour’s only plan appears to be to centralise everything in Cardiff at the expense of the rest of Wales. You did it with the awful decisions to centralise neurosurgery and the Major Trauma Centre in Cardiff. I’ve just mentioned HMRC and the MOJ jobs. It’s even happened in sport with the latest example being cricket. These are just the examples that spring to mind. I imagine you’ll come back with an explanation of the logic of this latest travesty of justice (no pun intended) but I believe the vast majority of Welsh people outside the South East believe as I do. ********************* When I get a response i'll let you know what she says. | | | | |

They won't. Part of the UK plan is to create "Globally competitive" cities in every region of the UK, so it'll be business as usual for the Senedd. Cardiff prospers whilst everywhere else withers on the vine. These MoJ jobs will be another example. Good Government work centralised in a city that doesn't need it. I swear, anyone in Swansea who voted "Yes" in 1997 should be booted out of the city. [Post edited 3 Feb 2022 6:25]

So you believe that welsh people are uniquely unable to govern their own nation ? Turn off the BBC and stop buying the Sun. Chant wales is a nation 10 times every morning. Chant wales is not a principality 10 times every night. Shirley nobody wants labour voting working class wales to be forever ruled by the dreadful English nationalist Tory party. Makes no sense. Through independence we will see true levelling up. Its rare this days to find someone who wants to return to the days of snivelling George Thomas. [Post edited 3 Feb 2022 7:53]

In answer to the question, NO. The truth is lots of countries are in a mess. Not because they are incapable as a whole but because their governments are incapable. Although saying that, despite the evidence we keep voting the same useless bunch back in so maybe the answer is overwhelmingly, yes. Shirley nobody wants to see their country ruined any more by a totally shambolic and inept Welsh government?

People often accuse the Welsh Government of blaming Westminster as being the cause when things go wrong and not accepting their share of the blame. One enormous difference if Wales became Independent is that the Welsh Government wouldn't be able to do that. There will be real scrutiny of every decision they take. The WBC and ITV (Welsh Broadcasting Corporation and Independence TV ) will focus on tax/benefits/defence/justice/infra investment etc decisions taken in Cardiff instead of Westminster and there'll be no hiding place. Even the most died in the wool Labour voter will be having a go at Welsh Labour when those decisions affect them. I remember just a few years ago seeing someone being interviewed on TV about the NHS and them saying they didn't realise that was the responsibility of the Welsh Gov. It's incredible to think how little people know. But even people like that will know exactly who to blame if/when things go wrong. So it certainly wouldn't be inevitable that Labour would continue in power after Indy. They barely held on last May and that was only because Mark Drakeford was seen by most people to have done a better job than Boris. Without that lift in popularity Labour would have been a minority government.
| Ministry of Justice on 10:38 - Feb 3 with 2537 views | JACKMANANDBOY | West Wales is one of the most deprived areas in Europe, I shall follow your lead and write as these 500 jobs offer a chance to start the work to address the imbalance in Wales. Here's my email: I am Swansea born and bred and when I relocated back to Wales having worked away I was immediately struck by the difference in investment between SE Wales and West Wales. Things have not improved in this respect. I understand that West Wales is one of the most deprived areas in Europe. It would appear that these 500 jobs offer the chance to start work to address the imbalance between the SE of Wales and other parts of Wales. These job are not constrained by infrastructure or commercial considerations and are ideal to help support deprived areas and should be ring-fenced in that way. I’ve tried without luck to find information as to how the imbalances in Wales are being addressed, perhaps you can point me in the right direction? Many thanks in anticipation of your response. Good luck . with that . I sent this to our esteemed AM in 2017 when discussions were taking place regarding the proposed new trauma unit , Strangely I never did receive a response and even stranger it was build in cardiff , now who on here who'd have thought that would happen? "The Welsh Government has provided £3.7 million capital and over £13 million recurrent revenue funding to support the pre-hospital, major trauma centre, specialist services and network elements of the programme business case." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-40416796 "Good evening Mr Hedges. I wonder if you could share your thoughts on the forthcoming decision regarding the new Trauma unit who's location is currently undecided . I believe there are two options currently available ,one at Morriston Swansea and the other at the Heath in Cardiff .I would like to think that the decision will be based on the needs of the whole of south Wales including the west and mid Wales where in the past so little thought appears to have been directed when it comes to those unfortunate not to live within a 30 mile radius of Cardiff .There are currently two units in Bristol which I’m sure could accommodate those unfortunate enough to need that level of care , all within a more than reasonable travelling time for all concerned within that catchment area. As my MP I’m sure you’re aware of your responsibilities to your constituents and will vote to ensure that we in this part of south Wales receive the NHS support that the area deserves . I emailed Hedges about something around the same time, when I lived in his constituency. I did get an answer though it was pointless as he did nothing, or said there was nothing he could do. Several people said to me that hedges was totally useless, just another career politician picking up a good wage for doing very little. | |

Voting "Yes" for the Assembly was an act of Civic Suicide for anyone in Swansea. It's like voting to give yourself cancer. If the enemy of my enemy is my friend then Westminster should be the ally of every Welsh person living outside the Central CF postcode area. They're our only protection against the parasite within.
