So much so even when selecting his bench for the last handful of games he hasn’t made the cut. And he has explained why. 1 Muddles, click above. Puddles, click below.

He would be ok in a flat back 4, but not the way we play. Saying that we could have done with him second half on Tuesday.

Yea exactly, I'm all for a style of play, but we've got to have like for like back up (like Bennett could have served for Cabango on Tuesday) or just a variety of players with different skills that can do a job against different tactics& teams. Again like Tuesday, to I'd have put Bennett on with Cabango. Or like the Blackburn game when we were down to 10 and needed to see the game out. If we're paying Bennett's wages, we may as well make use of him when appropriate - especially seeing as Martin doesn't seem to trust any of the younger options. [Post edited 29 Apr 2022 17:39]

That is why he should play in his proper position as a centre half and not as right back against speedy wingers. Another attempt by Martin to play players in the wrong position. If he had come on as a sub in both Reading and Bournemouth games we would probably be 4 points better off. Just hope Martind has learnt from this seasons mistakes.

He had to play what was available, clear that he didn't suit the style we were aiming to play and pointless him playing with a few games to go when we will neither being going up nor down a division. Quite clearly by not playing him states that he knows Bennett is not up to it.

But the point is Bennett was available for selection I don't think any of the defenders that played in the second half v Bournemouth learnt anything, became more comfortable or benefited. They're probably bloody traumatized by it. But we know Bennett is up to it, may not passing around the back, but not every game or every half especially in light of injuries is going to be conducive to us passing out from the back. But he's evidently up to defending like an old fashioned defender. Like he did v Blackburn when we went down to 10 men but got the 3 points.

Goalkeeper to full back to keeper to Grimes to touch or the opposition. We played the shortest defenders I can remember and certainly the most frail;yet we have a 6-5 lad on the n=bench and 6-2 Bennett who is sizeable. He cant faff about at the back as coach wants but he can hoof the ball clear and stand up against the like of Moore. The way we play is suicidal. Contracts? Just who will be left to start the new season and who will the coach bring in from Milton Keynes. Coach has sold himself remarkably well. He's brilliant at marketing ;just a shame it's his self . We had the players to make the play offs We haven't the coach. Fact.

He would be on my bench every game, he is a no nonsense defender who knows how to well err defend.

Yet most pundits fancy us for a good season coming up, and surprisingly how many managers have complimented the way we play. We are unbeaten in 9, and I honestly believe we are not far away from being a good side. Hopefully a good window coming up, wheeling and dealing to give him a god kitty.

We really didn’t need the play offs or a lot of the anti Martin stuff would have increased. Either by losing them or messing up the premier league.

It's really better for his reputation to fail to reach the playoffs than to have failed in them? Or to have been promoted and then relegated? And why should we start hand-wringing about potential "anti-Martin stuff" if we got back to the PL with a few hundred million extra quid in the bank for our trouble?

I can agree we aren't far away but what happens now? What if we sell Piroe and Obafemi? I think we have a good enough squad to have done better this season. Unless we keep our first choice 16/17 and add a few decent players the teams quality may not improve, sell our strikers and we may go backwards. We will see what happens next season but I'm not basing next season on pundits opinions. I'll wait for the evidence on the pitch.

I don’t think it would do the club any good at all, as I’ve said before the same would have happened if we went up with Sousa, it wouldn’t have worked the way it did the season after. Martin thrust into the premier league with a squad half built and not ready. I don’t think so.

I’ve seen enough this season to be very encouraged for next season. A little tweak here and a little tweak there, and we won’t be far off. The problem with people like ohl is they have no where to go, they would rather see the team fail, than see there ego take a hammering. [Post edited 30 Apr 2022 8:46]

I still dknt get that how do we know how it would have gone were we promoted under Sousa.... would it be that bad if we were promoted this season abf5then relegated with the season of additional revenue they'll brings provided we didn't spend stupidly abdcthen hse the parachute payments to help to get back up and enjoy another consecutive season run. Given the current club financial s I'm not I would not see us being to survive as a mud table championship side and eventually we either implode financially or drop through the leagues will that be good too?

It's very difficult to get a squad more than half built in this division. We're likely to lose a few key pieces of this season's team in the summer. A cheeky promotion before we're "ready" changes everything financially.
