He'd cost a fortune, surely. Top reputation in football. Made some mistakes in recruitment at PL level, but they've erred on the side of caution financially while he's been there after teetering on the edge of bankruptcy in the past.

I'm 100% on Webber's side. Mirroring Martin's tactics is pretty pointless. Most of these kids will never play for Swansea City, and most of the ones that do will do so after Martin is gone. In the meantime we're preparing players for systems and roles they won't find anywhere else, and it's not a proven way of playing even at senior level.
Players can't be hammered into any shape you want. Systems and approaches need to be tailored to get the most out of the groups we have. If there's a talented targetman in the u18s do we kick him out because Martin wants an Obafemi? What do we do with the next Cabango who struggles to sort his feet out but can defend? Rushesha's 5'8 and learning to play the Naughton role, who's going to take him on loan to do that job?
Given the size of squad we can maintain at this level most of the u23s who get to the fringes of first team action will have been in first team training long before they need to be ready. | | | |

I am a strong believer in continuity. When Alan Hansen lavished praise on Swansea City after beating Chelsea in one game around 2012 -2013 he stated playing like the way they play was not easy. It took years for 2007 to 2015 before it unravelled.
"Most of these kids will never play for Swansea City, and most of the ones that do will do so after Martin is gone" is not very shrewd thinking. Of course MOST will not make it but if 4 or 5 do this can be infiltrated into the first team seamlessly. It is about the general principles not the detail. Martin himself will have to amend and evolve his own methods which have been thoroughly audited recently. He would have to be a fool not to evolve.
In general all Swansea players from a young age should be able to receive the ball in tight spaces pass accurately, think and act quickly, not panic under pressure, and not easily be pushed off the ball or give it away cheaply. They should also have a fierce determination to do what needs to be done to win.
Without this determination to win and defend the goal turnaround like Reading and Bournemouth will continue to happen.
Player that cannot do the above at underage level can be moved on. Rushesha will be a defensive midfield player I would imagine.

What you say Jasper is very true.
All this nonsense about teaching the youngsters to play out form the back ie pass and move is something our acadamy has been doing since Martinez days..
It is not sensible to mirror a managers "ssystem" as longevity of a mangaers tenure is long gone.
I always thought though that "the Swansea Way" under our previuos ownership would to have developed this by developing biht players and coaches in our acadamy to progress through to the first team playing in that certain way....yet another opportunity wasted by our illustrious revious DoF /CEO.
No one else seems to play the Martin way and we will certainly never ever be abke to compete and attreact the quality of players to our acadamy cspable of playing at the level of the likes of Man city and Liverpool whilst I am sure the arra is capable of producing one or two individuals of such qulaity as history as shown we cannot find a team full.
Like I say I think we missed an opportunity a long while back...but thats water under the bridge.
The acadmy should produce players who can do the basics and be capable of a pass and move game....you also sometimes need a gold old fashioned defender who may noit be "hoddlesque" with their feet, thats why Martinez shifted Britton off the wing to that role in front of the back two to give tham an out ball so we could keep the ball on the floor and play it through midfield rsather than over it.
Im not convinced there are sufficient if at all players to play the way Martin wants especially for 90 mins and to have srength in reserve on the bench. | |

Every interview Kristian O'Leary has done this season has talked about it. It's been a very poor season for the u23s in terms of results, and struggling to get to grips with Martin's system has been a significant factor. A lot of cheap goals given away, some good players lacking involvement because they don't fit the model, others playing out of position because we don't have anyone else available (only one right wing back, and he joined in January).
It has suited a few. Lincoln McFayden is a left back who struggles defensively. Congreve and Lloyd both want to play as a number 10. Maybe we'll see a few more make the supposedly seamless transition to first team action soon. | | | |

Its an interesting pooint it seems football insider reports this on the 25th of November yet on the 26th of Novemebr it is announced in many publications how at Nrowichs AGM it was announced Webber's contract had been extended on an annual rolling contract so extendeing his contract beyond the end of this season to June 2024.....
I suppose we will need to wait and see....the links to bith Martin and Winter will make it newsworthy though | |

I think you miss the point Jasper is stating a fact managers rarely stay long at clubs these days especially in the championship, they either get fired as they "fail" or if succesful move on to more ambitious or higher level clubs.
Martin's style is unique no one else is playing it not even Klopp or Pep.
As Jaspers said we recruited wingers a little while back....you know like Martinez and Rodgers and Laudrup used to use but Martin doesnt ....nothing has been said about players who cannot play.....Its hitory and Coopers gone and Monk...what if our next manager is in the mould of Potter?
again people are convinced Cooper ball was all about hoofing it....try watching the games again we played out from the back , rimes was often seen bringing the ball forwards from our defensive third we played passing football....but at times we were sfatey first and did hoof it to the channels.
This season Notts Forest play some nice stuff...Cooper used the assets at his disposal to best advantage...its what managers do.
Why would we revert to Monkball or Cooper ball.....I doubt either of those two will ever be back here in themanager or coach role | |

What I do agree with is the lack of speed and width in the side. When we reflect back to Martinez, Rodgers and Laudrup we had loads. However, Martin isn’t at any of these managers level. | |
