Not as easy as that OHL. We need to get rid first, get a fee for someone in before we can move forward with our recruitment. Not ideal but that is the reality of it unfortunately.

We can't rely on Obafemi to get us 15 let along 20 plus a season we need to keep clear of relegation, let alone get promotion or play offs.

I’m with you on this one. Team for next season should be built around him. Obafemi still has it all to do to convince me, Now who was it that said ambition is critical …?

I accept that daps.Problem is Fisher is so obviously inept and hapless,it's hard to see him attracting anyone. He is a bad debt who the next manager will bench immediately.

If I were him I would be mightily cheesed off seeing the amount of goals he has scored only for a joke defence to chuck the game away

That is the big issue though, investment in the squad. We cannot keep selling our best players to spend a fraction of the fee on replacing them and hope to go for promotion. Even treading water gets difficult in this division doing that. We don't have the resources to make a big push unless we spend a lot more OR get very lucky. Under Rodgers it all came together, it was just our time. We had the chance and we grabbed it but now younger fans expect it, some older fans expect it too. What if nobody higher up comes in for any of our players? What if we don't make a big sale and we only manage to offload a few and are stuck with Bennett, for example? We can't guarantee that what we need to happen, will happen. Football is rarely that easy. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I hope he stays and bangs then in again to hat us promoted. I’ve made no secret of my admiration for him, one of the best all round players we’ve had for years and a prolific and deadly finisher. Players like him don’t grow on trees, we have to make the most of him. I think he got 24 goals in spite of Martin playing him in midfield - to get that total after being ducked around a lot says even more about him. I can’t see us going anywhere with Martin - especially after the last ten games of the season. We looked as if we didn’t care we that had a shout of the play offs. Left a bad taste in the mouth.

Its a weird one, i think he has played better with Obafemi involved stretching defences a bit giving him a bit more space. Stats suggest that he should not have scored near the amount he has, is he just that good or will luck run out. I think if an offer came in of £15m or upwards and he will be gone. He won't want to be sticking around in the championship.

What a load of nonsense. Why on earth would you want to get rid of arguably the best player from last season ? If he’s happy to stay under his current contract and if the club are happy for him to stay, what’s the problem ?

He is THAT good. I don't think luck played a part in any of his goals. He has tons of natural ability and I don't think he had a tap in all season.

Obafemi scored 12 in 2000 minutes last season. Piroe 22 in 3500. More football in the first half of the season and Obafemi would have surely scored 15-20. Only 10 players in the Championship scored 15+ last season. It's not a minimum requirement to avoid relegation, or even make the playoffs. Billy Sharp and Danny Ward only managed 14 for their clubs. We do need to find more goals from other positions, though. One high scorer isn't enough (see ourselves, Blackburn, Bristol... only 4 of the 10 highest scorers last season finished in the top 6)

Obafemi took half the season to settle but once he did his performances were, imo, offered more to the team than Joel's . Would ideally keep both but if £8+ million is on the table for Piroe we should take it. How many of us had heard of Piroe this time last season?

We need to be getting rid of the players that Martin has no time for like Fulton & Bennett before selling prize assets. There is absolutely no requirement at this time to sell Piroe, Obafemi or Downes if the club has an ounce of ambition. The defence needs addressing through whatever is left over after clearing the decks … & give Benda another

Nobody is willing to take Fulton & Bennett & offer them the wages they're on with us though. We're trying to get rid but there are no takers.

"Whatever is left" lol the club probably lost more than £10m last season, and we'll be very lucky indeed if any club out there is willing to offer Bennett and Fulton more than they're getting here.

Pay up a 30% of their contracts as a settlement if we can and let them move on. I don't know if they will take it but it's better than 100% for no return.

Looking purely at the stats: Obsfemi- Goals 12 XG 10.64 Minutes 2197 Piroe- Goals 22 XG 12.02 Minutes 3685 From this it shows Obafemi to get himself into better scoring positions than Piroe. Piroe massively outperforms his XG chipping in with a lot of goals from outside the box. But whether he can keep scoring at that rate i would highly doubt. If Obafemi plays the full season next year he easily scores 15+. The only issue we have is finding goals from midfield.

Good finishers will outperform their expected goals, especially when they're two-footed and capable from range. Given he was forced to play in midfield for half a season that's a good xG return, he's shown the quality to suggest he'll match it wherever he's playing next season. Not many jammy finishes in his highlight reel (see Brewster).

Just imagine how many he could get if he could score with his head. Would be up there with Mitrovic.

Just playing devils advocate a bit with the stats, can use them to suggest either way. Next year wherever he is will be the real test of his quality. But if he isn't to stay we should command a pretty hefty fee and have a ready made scorer in Obafemi already here.
