| How can Reading even contemplate signing Jay Fulton ? on 14:14 - Jul 10 with 3067 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Fulton is contracted to 2024 according to Transfmkt. Assume he is on £500,000 a season and has a transfer value of say £2m. Clearly the decision to give him that deal was a mistake. No one will pay a fee and no one will pay him these wages irrespective of playing style. Fulton's style suits plenty of other sides including Reading. Steve Cooper / Mark Allen over estimated the value of this player. The transfer fee is an illusion he is worth zero and to Swansea his £1m is a liability unless to the final year is an option. Like Walsh and Bennett his is now simply a drain on the club's finances. The club can give him to Reading and take a hit and hope they take him for two seasons not one. He will replace Rinhamota who has gone to Cardiff. Swansea need to wheel and deal. A quick deal taking a hit is sensible. Get it done. winners and losers. Get the losers out of the building asap. Fulton and Bennett have no future at Swansea. Why waste time? | |

Strange Fulton was a good enough player to help us get into the playoffs twice. Just Martin can't see it.

Fulton is a player to take the physical load away from Grime. A player that has scored in the Premier League against the bigger teams but deemed utterly useless after 2 months in charge of our current coach. It truly beggar belief,or it should do.

Okay. 8 Championship goals, 1 EFL Cup goal (Peterborough 16/17), 1 FA Cup goal (Aston Villa 18/19). No goals against PL opposition.

Thanks for that. I have clearly imagined it all and bow to your greater knowledge. Fulton was rightly told that he wasnt good enough by our coach.

It 's indicative of the man. Not for nothing am I THE poster to read. Even my old usernames get messages. I am going to investigate this Fulton chap as I definately recall him doing something pretty good in a game in the Premier League.

I mainly remember workmanlike performances but nothing spectacular. I was never disappointed or exited to see his name on the team sheet but we were crying out for someone more creative (only my opinion obviously)

That is fair comment. He was an ordinary rather featureless player but he could do a job and got stuck in which many of our players do not like. This is why I believe our coach was foolhardly in dumping him so early when others,ie,Cullen really should have been told they play no plart in his plans. Anyway,we move on.

I think you are probably thinking of one of his few games on loan to Wigan was a 1-0 win v the all winning Manchester City in a FA cup tie. My memory is playing tricks but did hecore in that game? No it was Grigg. [Post edited 11 Jul 2022 22:10]

| How can Reading even contemplate signing Jay Fulton ? on 22:32 - Jul 11 with 2410 views | jruss | Decent player but hugely over rated for me the way some people go on about him. Just a tidy work man like CM who's skill set is lost in our possesion style. Martin knew this and went and got Downes straight away. Cooper valued him more as he played a more cautious, less possession based style where Fulton can be more affected. If we played scrappy defensive football he'd be more useful but we don't. I think it says it all we seem to be having a bit of trouble shifting him. Reading sounds like his right level to me. | | | |

The reason we are struggling to shift him is because we are paying way over his worth. 9k a week I think I read somewhere. Bennett is on 23k a week how are we going to move him on. Walsh is on a about 6k a week as well. Over 150 grand a month for them 3. Nearly 2 million a year no wonder we are under pressure to sell a player or 2 every season.

Bad business by Cooper and Winter / Birch. The US owners have not got the recruitment issues sorted from day one. They as still making changes. Fan raised eyebrow at Walsh a three year contract for a fellow with a long list of injuries. No fan would give Bennett that money and Fulton is overpaid at Coopers recommendation. If it is a committee some one should have the guts to object. Shalke 04 have taken a £8m hit on Matondo. It did not work move on.

Shifting the dead woods wages would be huge for us. Could be the difference between bringing someone in or not. Every time i see how much Bennett is paid it makes me feel ill.

If bennet is on £1m for another year it is just a matter of squeezing that money out of West Ham. £9m rising to £13m or rising to £14m. Those little extra millions do the business. If some other club can pay Bennent £7k a week that is third saved. Any deal is better than no deal as neither will play for Swansea again. Both Fulton and Bennett are liabilities not assets. Send Bennett to Portsmouth and tie it up in the Harness deal for example. [Post edited 12 Jul 2022 13:30]

Agree with that Bennett will most likely never play for us again, he either sits out the season on full whack or we loan him and take whatever we can get. Fulton is probably good enough to find a free transfer covering most of his wages. It is pointless having players at the club as 4th 5th or 6th choice who aren't going to play. Thats what the academy is for.

Clubs weren't willing to go further than half Fulton's wages in January. I can't imagine much will have changed since.

Sooner or later we are going to have to come to some sort of financial settlement to get him off the books.
