I have seen the video of the incident, pretty scary, the stabber was flat out on the floor, tasered and surrounded by police officers, yet gets up and carries out that attack.

I’ve seen a colleagues stabbed near me in the aftermath of Toxteth. He was in the wrong place,me the right. Could have been me. In those situations, one should use maximum nit minimum force and face any inquiry after rather than be subject of a Coroners Court .

Couldn't agree more, just watched that video again, and the attacker goes down like a sack of spuds, he was on the deck flat out for a good five seconds, think it took the officers by surprise the way he jumped up like that.
Maybe up the voltage on the Tasers? with someone posing a threat like that, or if that's not feasible, if they won't surrender the knife, ultimate force has to be used.

Im not that keen on going back over my plod career but I have been attacked many times,several times with lethal weapon although not with a firearm;one of the worst I came across was a hot chip pan as it was hard to avoid. People carrying weapons on the streets ,(sorry to upset Jimbo et al )should expect to be neutralised -by that I mean the threat removed completely. Nobody can be trusted when carrying a lethal weapon.Do so and you could lose your life.
People who refuse to stop for Police do so for a reason. In USA ,go anywhere near the glove box and you could well be shot. Here,our bobbies have to give more leeway-that because of politicians who rely of armed officers to protect the.Ironic or what.
No police officer should ever be assaulted and a public seen as ambivolent.
